Purpose Intracoronary bleaching is a minimally invasive, alternative treatment that addresses aesthetic concerns related to non-vital teeth discoloration. However, to the best of our knowledge, no ...studies have assessed the psychosocial impacts of such procedures on patients' aesthetic perceptions. The aim of this study was to evaluate aesthetic perceptions and the psychosocial impact of patients up to 3 months after their teeth had been bleached with hydrogen peroxide (35%) and carbamide peroxide (37%) using the walking bleach technique. Methods The patients were randomly divided into two groups according to the bleaching agent used: G1 = hydrogen peroxide 35% (n=25) and G2 = carbamide peroxide 37% (n=25). Non-vital bleaching was performed in four sessions. Color was objectively (ΔE) and subjectively (ΔSGU) evaluated. Aesthetic perception and psychosocial factors were evaluated before, 1 week and 1 month after the bleaching using the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP) and Psychosocial Impact of Dental Aesthetics Questionnaire (PIDAQ) questionnaires. Results The color change (ΔE) values at 1 month were G1 = 16.80±6.07 and G2= 14.09±4.83. These values remained stable until the third month after treatment (p>0.05). There was a decrease in the values of OHIP-aesthetics and PIDAQ after treatment versus baseline (p<0.05). This status was maintained through the third month after treatment. Conclusions Both agents were highly effective and had a positive impact on the aesthetic perception and psychosocial impact of patients, values that also remained stable over time. Non-vital bleaching yields positive and stable impacts on aesthetic perception and psychosocial factors. ClinicalTrials.gov identifier NCT02718183.

La presente investigación realiza una aproximación crítico hermenéutica al problema de las Zonas de Sacrificio en Chile y el papel jugado históricamente por la Sociedad Civil, a la luz de los ...Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible de la Agenda 2030. Se caracteriza la forma como se entrelazan las luchas de los movimientos sociales por la vida, salud y Justicia Ambiental, con los esfuerzos de las empresas termoeléctricas por rentabilizar sus inversiones; determinando las precarias condiciones en que sobrevive y muere la población en las llamadas Zonas de Sacrificio. Se analiza un conjunto de antecedentes del proceso histórico de configuración de la situación actual a la luz del Marco Legal existente, logrando evidenciar nuevos escenarios y condiciones de posibilidad para los esfuerzos de los movimientos sociales, y la Sociedad Civil en general, en la lucha por condiciones de vida más sostenibles y dignas; y de una relación más armónica con la Madre Naturaleza.
Esta investigación se enmarca en los resultados preliminares de un proyecto Fondecyt regular. Este artículo tiene como objetivo develar descriptivamente la memoria social de cinco mujeres, abuelas ...indígenas de la comunidades mapuche de Maquehue y del sector Cholchol, con un rango de edad que oscila entre los sesenta y los setenta años, desde sus subjetividades, sus particularidades y sentimientos; el texto aborda el problema de la invisibilización de la sabiduría ancestral indígena de las abuelas mapuche, las principales agentes de transmisión cultural de generación en generación. El marco teórico se orienta a partir del enfoque intercultural, y, por otra parte, el modelo formativo mapuche Kimeltuwun,(proceso educativo mapuche) el cual se vehiculiza a través de epew (cuentos), peumas (sueños) y piam (realtaos antiguos). Los relatos fueron socializados desde sus propios territorios, donde compartieron sus vivencias escolares, lo cual, indudablemente, enriqueció la experiencia investigativa. La reconstrucción de la memoria surge del recuerdo de la escolarización monocultural que vivieron en su infancia. Los datos se recogieron a través de entrevista en profundidad y nuw tram, al amparo de un acercamiento intercultural al campo. Los resultados dan cuenta de cómo se fueron invisibilizando sus conocimientos ancestrales en la educación que recibieron, cargada de disciplina y rigidez, centrada siempre en roles domésticos (lavar platos, limpiar pisos, buscar leña), alejados completamente de su propio reconocimiento, su identidad, su autosuperación y su participación social, sin considerar su legado ancestral y todo su contexto. La escuela invade su cultura, la ignora, alejándose de su esencia mapuche, que no es otra que la vida en armonía con la naturaleza.

Ante la era digital, la humanidad se enfrenta a nuevas coyunturas en los ámbitos sociales y psicológicos. La aparición de fenómenos como la adicción a internet, la depresión asociada al uso excesivo ...de los dispositivos y la pérdida de espacios reales en pro de una virtualidad cada vez mayor, además del desgaste de los recursos naturales, prende las alarmas sobre la salud y el tipo de vida que se lleva en las sociedades. La vida rápida e inmediata parece colocar a las personas en nuevos espacios cuyos impactos aún salen del conocimiento de las ciencias sociales. La Psicología humanista apareció oficialmente en 1961 y puede brindarnos una mirada más humana. El retorno a las experiencias humanas, a las emociones, al valor del individuo y a los sentimientos de autorrealización pueden cimentar las bases de un nuevo pensamiento que ponga luz sobre las problemáticas actuales. Por eso, el objetivo de este trabajo fue el de señalar algunos problemas que llegaron con la era digital, para después dirigir sobre ellos la mirada que brinda la Psicología humanista con el fin de revitalizar los esfuerzos en pro de una vida más saludable tanto entre los individuos como con el ambiente.
To evaluate the clinical performance of refurbished resin composite restorations compared to untreated (negative control) restorations over a period of 10 years.
26 subjects (having a total of 52 ...composite restorations) were recruited. All restorations in the refurbished group showed clinical features rated bravo according to modified USPHS criteria. Untreated restorations were those that had been deemed acceptable (alpha or bravo rated); these were used as controls. Two examiners performed assessments at baseline and during the 5th and 10th years after the intervention. Wilcoxon tests were performed for within-group comparisons, Friedman tests were used for multiple within-group comparisons, and Mann Whitney tests were used for between-groups comparisons. Kaplan-Meier survival curves were calculated, and the Mantel-Cox test was used to compare curves. P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant.
In both groups, 10-year scores were significantly different from baseline scores in all clinical parameters except secondary caries. There were no statistically significant differences in the survival analysis of groups (log-rank test, P = 0.376). Refurbishing treatment improved the anatomy, roughness, luster, and marginal adaptation of restorations with a short-term effect, with most properties rated acceptable after 10 years of clinical service. The clinical characteristics were similar for all groups at the 10th year.
This article investigates the emergence of two institutions for the control of public hygiene in Chile between 1879 and 1920: colleges of royal physicians and isolation hospitals using the case of ...smallpox in La Araucanía, a region located in the South of Chile. We cover the characteristics and context of these institutions that allowed the State of Chile to address the problems of public hygiene and to prompt health professionals to professionalize the practice of medicine. The liberal positivist state of the late nineteenth century understood that the issue of hygiene was not only a matter of individual responsibility but had a social, public, and environmental dimension. People practiced hygiene alongside the existence of hygienic and anti-hygienic environments. Therefore, hygiene, the royal colleges of physicians, health records, isolation hospitals, doctors, and vaccinators are studied. All of these components of the health care system of the time were in permanent tension with the central government authorities due to the insufficient resources provided by the state for the care of infected patients with smallpox. The study follows a qualitative methodology with a descriptive historiographic design. We used archival primary and secondary sources available in Chile and Germany. The results show that the presence of smallpox appeared ferociously in South-Central Chile in the second half of the 19th century and remained in La Araucanía until the first half of the 20th century. The extent to which smallpox spread, spawning fear and insecurity in people of different social classes, had as one of its leading causes the precarious conditions of health and hygiene of the population.
La problemática de la criminología ha sido indagada por diversos historiadores a través del tiempo. Sin embargo, se ha encontrado con la carencia de falta de respuestas la cual ha sido suplida por ...estudios generales de acontecimientos y aproximaciones temáticas. Lo que se presenta es una tratativa de llenar un vacío con trabajos de significación, que al analizarlos cubren esta falencia en parte, y ayudan a entender el trabajo individual de varios investigadores, quienes han sistematizado una problemática. Se trata de una problemática recurrente y discursiva en la actualidad, la cual periódicamente se cubre de nuevas y valiosas interpretaciones. Al analizar las obras de los historiadores que han ingresado a la temática de la criminalidad y la criminología, queremos ser un aporte sustancial para desvelar nuevas interpretaciones y crear nuevo conocimiento.
The aim of the study was to evaluate the chemical composition and radiopacity of new calcium-silicatebased cements. Discs of 10 mm x 1 ± 0.1mm were prepared of BiodentineTM, TheraCal, Dycal and GC ...Fuji IX (n=5). The samples were radiographed directly on an PSP occlusal plate adjacent to an aluminium step wedge. The radiopacity of each specimen was determined according to ISO 9917/2007. Statistical analyses were carried out using ANOVA and Tukey’s test at a significance level of 5 %. The chemical constitution of materials was determined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive x-ray element mapping. The radiopacities of the materials in decreasing order were: GC Fuji IX (3.45 ± 0.16 mm), Dycal (3.18 ± 0.17), BiodentineTM (2.79 ± 0.22), and TheraCal (2.17 ± 0.17). TheraCal showed the lowest radiopacity compared to the other materials, followed by BiodentineTM. Dycal and GC Fuji IX radiopacity values did not present significant statistical differences. Scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray analysis revealed the presence of zirconium in BiodentineTM; and strontium, barium and zirconium in TheraCal as radiopacifying elements. The new calcium silicate cements present distinctive chemical composition. BiodentineTM contains zirconium as a radiopacifying element and has higher radiopacity values than TheraCal, which contains barium and strontium as radiopacifiers.
Replacement of dental restorations has been the traditional treatment for defective restorations. This five-year prospective clinical trial evaluated amalgam restorations with localized defects that ...were treated by means of repair or refurbishing. Fifty-two patients (50% female and 50% male, mean age 28.3±18.1 years, range 18–80) with 160 class I and class II defective restorations were included. The study focused on the application of two minimally invasive treatments for localized restoration defects and compared these with no treatment and total replacement as negative and positive controls, respectively. Restorations were assessed by two calibrated examiners according to modified U.S. Public Health Service criteria, including marginal adaptation, anatomic form, secondary caries, and roughness. At five years, recall was examined in 45 patients with 108 restorations (67.5%). The results suggest that repair treatment is as effective as total replacement of restorations with localized defects, reducing biological costs to the patient and providing new tools to the clinician. Refinishing restoration is a useful treatment for localized anatomic form defects.
