Additionally, to test the role of memory in neophobia during adolescence, latent inhibition of taste aversion and object recognition memory were assessed in Experiment 3 and Experiment 4, respectively.RESULTSAdolescent and adult rats exhibited taste neophobia to the saccharin solution but adolescent rats required more exposure trials than adults to recognize the vinegar solution as safe. Both groups exhibited similar latent inhibition of taste aversion and object recognition memory. No sex effect was significant.CONCLUSIONSContrary to the accepted view associating adolescence with reduced neophobia, adolescent rats exhibited taste neophobia which even increased when sour tastes were encountered.

A pesar de la necesidad de probar nuevos alimentos potencialmente toxicos durante el periodo de crecimiento adolescente, la neofobia gustativa y su atenuacion durante este periodo apenas ha sido estudiada. Metodo: Se evaluaron la neofobia gustativa y los procesos de memoria relacionados en ratas Wistar macho y hembra adolescentes (PND28) y adultas (PND70). En los Experimentos 1 y 2 Se exploro la atenuacion de la neofobia gustativa a soluciones de vinagre de sidra (3%) y sacarina sodica (0,1%), respectivamente. En los experimentos 3 y 4, se evaluo tambien la inhibicion latente de aversiones gustativas y la memoria de reconocimiento de objetos. Resultados: Adolescentes y adultos mostraron neofobia gustativa a la sacarina, pero las ratas adolescentes requirieron mas exposiciones a la solucion de vinagre para reconocerla como segura. No hubo diferencias entre los grupos en los Experimentos 3 and 4. No se hallaron efectos significativos del sexo. Conclusiones: A pesar de la ampliamente aceptada asociacion entre adolescencia y reducida neofobia, las ratas adolescentes muestran neofobia al sabor que resulta incluso incrementada cuando se trata de sabores acidos. The fungal parasite of nematode eggs Pochonia chlamydosporia is also a root endophyte known to promote growth of some plants. In this study, we analysed the effect of nine P. chlamydosporia isolates ...from worldwide origin on tomato growth. Experiments were performed at different scales (Petri dish, growth chamber and greenhouse conditions) and developmental stages (seedlings, plantlets and plants). Seven P. chlamydosporia isolates significantly (P < 0.05) increased the number of secondary roots and six of those increased total weight of tomato seedlings. Six P. chlamydosporia isolates also increased root weight of tomato plantlets. Root colonisation varied between different isolates of this fungus. Again P. chlamydosporia significantly increased root growth of tomato plants under greenhouse conditions and reduced flowering and fruiting times (up to 5 and 12 days, respectively) versus uninoculated tomato plants. P. chlamydosporia increased mature fruit weight in tomato plants. The basis of the mechanisms for growth, flowering and yield promotion in tomato by the fungus are unknown. However, we found that P. chlamydosporia can produce Indole‐3‐acetic acid and solubilise mineral phosphate. These results suggest that plant hormones or nutrient ability could play an important role. Our results put forward the agronomic importance of P. chlamydosporia as biocontrol agent of plant parasitic nematodes with tomato growth promoting capabilities.

To assess the efficacy of abatacept (ABA) in RA patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD) (RA-ILD).
This was an observational, multicentre study of RA-ILD patients treated with at least one dose ...of ABA. ILD was diagnosed by high-resolution CT (HRCT). We analysed the following variables at baseline (ABA initiation), 12 months and at the end of the follow-up: Modified Medical Research Council (MMRC) scale (1-point change), forced vital capacity (FVC) or diffusion lung capacity for carbon monoxide (DLCO) (improvement or worsening ≥10%), HRCT, DAS on 28 joints evaluated using the ESR (DAS28ESR) and CS-sparing effect.
We studied 263 RA-ILD patients 150 women/113 men; mean (s.d.) age 64.6 (10) years. At baseline, they had a median duration of ILD of 1 (interquartile range 0.25-3.44) years, moderate or severe degree of dyspnoea (MMRC grade 2, 3 or 4) (40.3%), FVC (% of the predicted) mean (s.d.) 85.9 (21.8)%, DLCO (% of the predicted) 65.7 (18.3) and DAS28ESR 4.5 (1.5). The ILD patterns were: usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) (40.3%), non-specific interstitial pneumonia (NSIP) (31.9%) and others (27.8%). ABA was prescribed at standard dose, i.v. (25.5%) or s.c. (74.5%). After a median follow-up of 12 (6-36) months the following variables did not show worsening: dyspnoea (MMRC) (91.9%); FVC (87.7%); DLCO (90.6%); and chest HRCT (76.6%). A significant improvement of DAS28ESR from 4.5 (1.5) to 3.1 (1.3) at the end of follow-up (P < 0.001) and a CS-sparing effect from a median 7.5 (5-10) to 5 (2.5-7.5) mg/day at the end of follow-up (P < 0.001) was also observed. ABA was withdrawn in 62 (23.6%) patients due to adverse events (n = 30), articular inefficacy (n = 27), ILD worsening (n = 3) and other causes (n = 2).
ABA may be an effective and safe treatment for patients with RA-ILD.
Using immunosorbents based upon cyanogen bromide-Sepharose CL-4B, we have examined different ligand densities in coupling of monoclonal antibody (MAb) to find the best performance, for recombinant ...hepatitis B surface antigen (rHBsAg) purification. Three replicates of 5 and 15 cycles of densities ranges: 2.17–2.19, 3.18–3.62, 4.06–4.17, and 5.13–5.40
mg/ml (control); or 1.81–2.47, 3.17–3.41, 4.16–4.28, and 5.16–5.19
mg/ml (control), respectively were evaluated in terms of binding capacity, antigen recovery, ligand leakage and purity of antigen, and compared to the control. Adsorption and antigen recovery of immunosorbents manufactured were not different statistically, eventhough increased 8.08 and 9.90% at a range of 3.17–3.41
mg/ml. At this range, efficiency expressed as productivity and MAb saving was optimal. Ligand leakage and purity of antigen showed similar behaviour among all densities. Aspects related to ligand density in antigen immunoaffinity purification are discussed.

Macaca fascicularis) inducing antibodies against TAB9 in all animals after one inoculation and a strong anamnestic response after booster injections. Furthermore 97% of the V3 peptides included were recognized by TAB9 sera. No differences between doses of 200 μg and 1 mg of TAB9 in M-ISA720 were observed after four immunizations. Neutralizing antibodies against five HIV-1 isolates were detected in most animals. Animals remain healthy throughout the study and did not show lesions at the inoculation site.
