•Ornamental horticulture: mediterranean shrubs.•Cistus (Cistaceae): taxonomy, morphology.•Volatile compounds in rockrose leaves and labdanum.•Flower morphology and pigmentation.•Novel taxa in ...cistaceae.•Mediterranean scrubland and open forests.
Cistus ladanifer L. is a shrub which presents a typical flower consisting in five white petals provided or not with a basal deep purple blotch, covering less than 10% of the petal's surface. The new variety here proposed is characterized by the large dark dots that cover often an 80% of the petal's surface, hence the epithet adopted “supermaculatus”. Because the dot is superb in dimensions and is visible both on the adaxial, but also on the abaxial faces of the petal. Cistus ladanifer var. supermaculatus var. nov. is endemic to the Ciudad Real Province of Spain.

The typification of the names Trichera subscaposa var. rupicola, T. subscaposa var. macrotrycha, and Knautia subscaposa var. subintegerrima is discussed. The names are lectotypified using specimens ...preserved in the Willkomm Herbarium at COI, Carlos Pau Herbarium at MA, and Rouy Herbarium at LY, respectively.
Avena pubescens Hudson was previously considered to have been “neotypified” by Röser in 1995 from a specimen preserved at WU herbarium (Wien). However, there is an original element that was included ...and cited in the protologue. Therefore, the typification by Röser is here briefly discussed and superseded because is being contrary to Art. 9.8 of the International code of nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (Shenzhen Code). The name is lectotypified in this paper with an illustration published by Ray in 1724. In addition, for a precise circumscription of the name, an epitype is proposed from a complete and well preserved specimen at WU.
•New hybrid of Phoenix.•Interesting hybrid in gardening.•New hybrid of Phoenix canariensis.•New hybrid of Phoenix reclinata.
Phoenix reclinata Jacq. is a palm species native to tropical and southern ...Africa, extending to Madagascar, where its natural populations are exploited for sap and fibre. Widely embraced as an ornamental palm in gardens within warm zones abroad, it has established itself as an integral part of horticultural landscapes.
On the other hand, Phoenix canariensis H. Wildpret is an endemic species found in the Canary Islands (Spain), forming extensive palm forests. Since the 1850s, it has emerged as the predominant ornamental Phoenix palm tree. Interestingly, in various regions, the natural habitat of one species intersects with cultivated individuals of the other. For instance, in southern Africa, where P. reclinata is indigenous and P. canariensis is exotic, occasional spontaneous hybrids have been reported. These hybrids have also been observed in Florida and California (USA), where both species are cultivated.
In this publication, we formally introduce a new hybrid: Phoenix ×arehuquensis nov. hybr., originating from the Canary Islands. Additionally, we explore its potential impact on natural palm forests.

The typification of five names in tribe Antirrhineae (Plantaginaceae): Antirrhinum crassifolium (≡ Chaenorhinum crassifolium), Chaenorhinum crassifolium var. parviflorum, C. flexuosum var. hispanicum ...(≡ C. crassifolium subsp. cadevallii), C. formenterae, and Linaria serpyllifolia (≡ C. serpyllifolium) is discussed. The names are lectotypified using specimens from MA, LAU, COI, LY, and C, respectively.
The lectotypification of the Cavanillesian name Arundo australis is discussed. The
designation of the nomenclatural type was based on a specimen preserved in the Cavanilles herbarium
kept in the ...Royal Botanic Garden of Madrid and collected by Luis Née in Botanical Bay during the
Malaspina Expedition (1789-1794). The lectotype of the name Phragmites pumilus is also designated.
This species was described by Willkomm and currently the name is treated as a heterotypic synonym of
Phragmites australis.
