Globular clusters are main astrophysical laboratories to test and modify evolutionary models. Thought to be rather homogeneous in their local elemental distribution of members, results suggest a wide ...variety of chemical peculiarities. Besides different main sequences, believed to be caused by different helium abundances, peculiarities of blue horizontal-branch stars and on the red giant branch were found. This whole zoo of peculiar objects has to be explained in the context of stellar formation and evolution. The tool of Δa photometry is employed in order to detect peculiar stars in the whole spectral range. This three filter narrow-band system measures the flux distribution in the region from 4900 to 5600 Å in order to find any peculiarities around 5200 Å. It is highly efficient to detect classical chemically peculiar stars of the upper main sequence, Be/Ae, shell and metal-weak objects in the Milky Way and Magellanic Clouds. We present Δa photometry of 2266 stars from 109 individual frames for three globular clusters (NGC 104, NGC 6205, and NGC 7099). A comparison with published abundances, for three horizontal-branch stars, only, yields an excellent agreement. According to the 3σ detection limit of each globular cluster, about 3 per cent of the stars lie in abnormal regions in the diagnostic diagrams. The first observations of three widely different aggregates give very promising results, which will serve as a solid basis for follow-up observations including photometric as well as spectroscopic studies.
The primary determinant of minority office holding is the racial/ethnic composition of the legislative district. Using comprehensive data on the race/ethnicity of state legislative candidates in 2012 ...and 2014, we find that minority candidates still emerge at lower rates than whites after accounting for district composition. Leveraging information about the overlap between congressional and state legislative districts, we demonstrate that the victories of candidates of color for Congress reduce the coethnic/racial demographic thresholds associated with state legislative candidacy and that the same pattern holds for white incumbents and state legislative candidacies. Once accounting for both the race of congressional incumbents and the racial/ethnic composition of state legislative districts, white, Latino, African American, and Asian American state legislative candidates emerge at similar rates. These results suggest that perceptions of minority candidate viability play a key role in structuring contemporary disparities in who runs for office.

We report here the draft genome sequences of
strains Kp1803 and Kp3380 isolated during a large outbreak at A Coruña Hospital in Spain. The final genome assemblies for Kp1803 and Kp3380 comprise ...approximately 6.6 and 6.1 Mb, respectively, and both strains have G+C contents of 57.2%.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of water running training on immune-endocrine parameters evaluated in peripheral blood of overweight-obese women.
Eleven sedentary ...overweight-obese women (age 48.81±12.87 years; body mass index 34.56±4.08kg/m2) participated of 12-week of aerobic water running training in a heated swimming pool (70minutes/session; 3×/week). In addition, nine women matched to age and body mass index were recruited to sedentary control group (age 49.9±10.5years; body mass index 33.05±3.45kg/m2). Serum levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-10 (IL-10), interleukin-17a (IL-17a), interferon-gamma (INF-γ), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), salivary cortisol, and the peripheral frequency of CD3+CD4+ and CD3+CD8+ T cells were evaluated before and after 12 weeks in exercised individuals and after 12 weeks in control subjects. In addition, anthropometric measurements (body mass, % of body fat and trunk circumferences) and functional capacity (VO2Peak and time to exhaustion) were also evaluated.
After 12 weeks of exercise training, serum adiponectin (P=0.030), IL-10 (P=0.01) and TNF-α (P=0.004), and CD8+ T cells frequency (P=0.03) increased significantly, while salivary cortisol reduced (P=0.003) in exercised women. After 12 weeks of training, exercised individuals had higher TNF-α levels (P=0.02), CD4+ (P=0.03) and CD8+ (P=0.04) T cells than control group. In addition, exercised women reduced the waist circumference (P=0.030) and improved the time to exhaustion (P=0.003).
In conclusion, deep water running was able to modulate immune-endocrine parameters in absence of significant improvements in body composition or VO2Peak in overweight-obesity women. This training could be an interesting tool to control the obesity-related chronic low-grade inflammation.
L’objectif de cette étude était d’évaluer l’effet de la formation d’eau courante sur les paramètres immunitaires et endocriniens du sang périphérique chez les femmes en surpoids obèses.
Onze femmes en surpoids obèses sédentaires (âge 48,81±12,87 années ; indice de masse corporelle 34,56±4,08kg/m2) ont participé de 12 semaines de formation en cours d’exécution de l’eau dans la piscine chauffée (70minutes/session ; 3×/semaine). En outre, neuf femmes appariés aux l’âge et l’indice de masse corporelle ont été recrutés pour groupe témoin sédentaire (âge 49,9±10,5ans ; indice de masse corporelle 33,05±3,45kg/m2). Les niveaux de l’interleukine-6 (IL-6), l’interleukine-10 (IL-10), interleukine-17a (IL-17 a), l’interféron-gamma (IFN-γ), facteur de nécrose tumorale alpha (TNF-α), cortisol salivaire et la fréquence périphérique de CD3+CD4+ et CD3+ cellules T CD8+ ont été évaluées avant et au bout de 12 semaines chez des personnes exercées et au bout de 12 semaines chez les sujets témoins. En conclusion, l’eau courante profonde était capable de moduler les paramètres immunitaires endocriniens en l’absence d’améliorations significatives dans la composition corporelle ou de la consommation d’oxygène. Cette formation pourrait être un outil intéressant pour contrôler l’inflammation de bas grade chronique liée à l’obésité.

This article presents an approach for evaluating the liabilities of traditional Brazilian annuity plans, using a continuous-time stochastic approach based on modern solvency principles. The technical ...provisions are obtained by means of conditional expectation, under a real-world measure and considering the peculiar characteristics of each plan and the financial guarantees and profit participations (bonus and dividend plans) embedded in the annuity plans. We assume that policyholder behavior is not optimal, but we also illustrate a calculation of provision assuming optimal policyholder behavior to show the differences between both assumptions. In this article all explicit provisions formulas are derived, and several relevant conclusions about the values of these provisions are discussed.

Headlines touted a “wave” of women and minority candidates running in the 2018 elections, leading some to conclude that 2018 was the new “year of the woman” and perhaps “year of the candidate of ...color” (Lai et al. 2018). In fact, the number of women and candidates of color contesting US House elections was so high in 2018 that for the first time on record, White men were the minority of Democratic House nominees (Schneider 2018). Surveys taken immediately before the 2018 midterm elections indicated that women of color were the “ideal candidates” for Democrats, suggesting a changing voter demand for a more diverse field of candidates (Easley 2018).
