We present the polynomiality sum rules for all leading-twist quark and gluon generalized parton distributions (GPDs) of spin-1 targets such as the deuteron nucleus. The sum rules connect the Mellin ...moments of these GPDs to polynomials in skewness parameter ξ, which contain generalized form factors as their coefficients. The decompositions of local currents in terms of generalized form factors for spin-1 targets are obtained as a by-product of this derivation.

The fundamental theory of the strong interaction-quantum chromodynamics (QCD)-provides the foundational framework with which to describe and understand the key properties of atomic nuclei. A deep ...understanding of the explicit role of quarks and gluons in nuclei remains elusive however, as these effects have thus far been well-disguised by confinement effects in QCD which are encapsulated by a successful description in terms of effective hadronic degrees of freedom. The observation of the EMC effect has provided an enduring indication for explicit QCD effects in nuclei, and points to the medium modification of the bound protons and neutrons in the nuclear medium. Understanding the EMC effect is a major challenge for modern nuclear physics, and several key questions remain, such as understanding its flavor, spin, and momentum dependence. This manuscript provides a contemporary snapshot of our understanding of the role of QCD in nuclei and outlines possible pathways in experiment and theory that will help deepen our understanding of nuclei in the context of QCD.
Learning to teach is a highly complex and multidimensional process. This self-study, conducted collaboratively by a preservice teacher and a teacher educator, traces one preservice teacher's ...development and growth over a 2-year period. The study examines the complexities of learning to teach, as well as the complexities of assisting preservice teachers on their journey to becoming teachers. The data were derived from multiple sources including observation notes, journal reflections, dialogue journals, and the student's action research/self-study paper. The results provide insight into how preservice teachers think, the conflicts they experience, the fears they encounter, and the benefits they derive from systematically examining their teaching and their students’ learning. The article describes specific attitudes and dispositions that can impact growth and development. In addition, it discusses a variety of activities to foster reflection and inquiry.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the implementation of pressure injury (PI) prevention strategies in adult acute care settings in the United States using the data from the 2018/2019 ...International Pressure Ulcer Prevalence (IPUP) Survey.
Observational, cohort study with cross-sectional data collection and retrospective data analysis.
The sample comprised 296,014 patients hospitalized in 1801 acute care facilities in the United States that participated in the 2018 and/or 2019 IPUP Survey. Slightly less than half (49.4%, n = 146,231) were male, 50% (n = 148,997) were female, 0.6% (n = 17,760) were unknown. Their mean age was 64.29 (SD 17.2) years.
Data from the 2018/2019 IPUP database were analyzed to evaluate the implementation of prevention strategies including repositioning, support surface use, head-of-bed (HOB) elevation, heel elevation, moisture management, minimizing linen layers, and nutritional support. Practices were analyzed for differences between patients without pressure injuries, and patients with Stage 1 and 2 hospital-acquired pressure injury (HAPI), and those with severe HAPIs (Stage 3, Stage 4, unstageable, and deep tissue pressure injury). Acute care unit types included critical or intensive care units, medical-surgical inpatient care units, and step-down units.
Compliance rates to PI prevention strategies varied among patients at risk for HAPIs (Braden Scale for Pressure Sore Risk score ≤18). Daily skin assessment was performed for 86% of patients with no HAPIs and 96.8% of patients with severe HAPIs. Pressure redistribution was used in 74.6% of all patients and in over 90% of patients with severe HAPIs; however, compliance to routine repositioning was reported at lower levels between 67% and 84%, respectively. Heel elevation was reported for over 60% of the patients with severe HAPIs while 31.9% did not receive heel elevation, though only 6% were reported as not needing elevation. The majority of patients had HOB greater than the 30° at the time of the data collection; compliance with minimizing linen layers (≤3) was reported in 76% or more. Moisture management strategies were reportedly used in more than 71% of all patients and 89% for patients with severe HAPIs. Nutrition support was used for 55% to 82% of the patients and only documented as contraindicated in fewer than 2% of all groups.
Study findings revealed substantial compliance rates to PI prevention strategies. Nevertheless, there is potential for improvement in the implementation of some of the most basic prevention strategies including repositioning, heel elevation, nutritional support, and moisture management.
Purpose
Suicide prevention and intervention in prisons is a challenge. Prisons were not designed to be clinical facilities, yet with the growing numbers of people who face mental health challenges in ...prisons, staff require knowledge and skills to adequately address mental health crises, especially suicide. This study aims to: describe trends in suicide attempts and completions within one state’s prison system and measure staff knowledge and preparedness to address suicide.
Design/methodology/approach
This research uses a nonexperimental research design and two data sources. Administrative data from 2000 to 2017 on serious suicide attempts and completions were analyzed, and all correctional staff employed in the state’s Department of Corrections were surveyed at one point in time. Univariate and bivariate analyses were conducted.
Findings
The number of serious suicide attempts trended up but completed suicides decreased. Correctional staff demonstrated high suicide knowledge of risk factors and warning signs of suicide. Staff who viewed a media-based suicide training displayed significantly more knowledge of suicide and perceived greater preparedness compared to staff who did not or did not recall viewing the training.
Originality/value
Corrections staff play a key role in preventing suicides in prison. Innovative intervention is needed to increase suicide awareness, improve communication and enhance prevention skills.
This article presents results from an evaluation of learning outcomes in a social work skills class between online and in-person students. Students were compared on background and academic factors, ...including grade point average prior to graduate school, time since completion of undergraduate education, undergraduate degree, and previous work and training in social services. Students also completed a skills self-assessment at the beginning of the class and upon completion. Data used to measure learning outcomes included total points earned and grades. Data were also collected from instructors’ field notes and observations. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and bivariate analyses, including one way and repeated measure ANOVA. Online students perceived they entered the class with more skills but no differences existed at the post-assessment. Minimal differences existed in students’ scores on major assignments except the bio-psycho-social assessment; in-person students scored higher. Instructors identified rapport building online as challenging. Results suggest parity of online and in-person learning. It is important to continue researching which students do best in--online and in-person coursework--in order to assist students in making the best choices for their learning preferences.

The knowledge of ecological requirements of declining butterflies of European woodlands remains limited, which hinders conservation management of their localities. This also applies for continentally ...threatened scarce fritillary Euphydryas maturna. On the basis of the largest data set on its habitat use ever collected in Central Europe, we analyse habitat requirements of its populations in Austria (A), the Czech Republic (Cz) and Germany (D). All studied populations inhabit open-canopy sites within woodlands, but larval survival decreases under full sun and preferred sites are relatively humid and sheltered. Nests of pre-hibernation larvae occur at terminal branches of Fraxinus excelsior, 1.5-3 m above the ground. Pre-hibernation mortality reaches 70% (Cz, D). Another limiting factor is quality of woodland vegetation: post-hibernation larvae consume a wide range of herbs and shrubs, and adult distribution is linked to nectar availability. The butterfly thus depends on highly heterogeneous early successional stages of deciduous woods, historically maintained by coppicing (Cz, D) and forest pasture (A). Restoration of these traditional methods offers the only chance for survival of E. maturna in Central Europe, and the butterfly may become a flagship for other threatened organisms of open-canopy woodlands.

Canavan disease is a childhood leukodystrophy caused by mutations in the gene for human aspartoacylase ( ASPA), which leads to an abnormal accumulation of the substrate molecule N-acetyl-aspartate ...(NAA) in the brain. This study was designed to model the natural history of Canavan disease using MRI and proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy ( (1)H-MRS). NAA and various indices of brain structure (morphology, quantitative T1, fractional anisotropy, apparent diffusion coefficient) were measured in white and gray matter regions during the progression of Canavan disease. A mixed-effects statistical model was used to fit all outcome measures. Longitudinal data from 28 Canavan patients were directly compared in each brain region with reference data obtained from normal, age-matched pediatric subjects. The resultant model can be used to non-invasively monitor the natural history of Canavan disease or related leukodystrophies in future studies involving drug, gene therapy, or stem cell treatments.
