To evaluate operative technique, patient selection and perioperative management of single-lung transplantation for a patients with end-stage emphysema.
A 56-year-old patient with end-stage emphysema ...underwent left-lung transplantation on September 28, 2002. The surgical technique used was similar to that mentioned in the literature. The donor lung was perfused by LPD solution with a cold ischemic time of 260 minutes. Cardiopulmonary bypass was not performed.
The patient weaned from a ventilator at the 93th hour after operation. Immunosuppressants included cyclosporine, mycophenolate mofetil and corticosteroid. Acute rejection occurred on the ninth day after operation and was cured by bolus methylprednisolone given intravenously. Lung function was improved significantly and the patient was discharged from the hospital on the 47th day after operation.
Single-lung transplantation for patients with end-stage emphysema is effective for long-term improvement of pulmonary function.
AIM: To investigate the diagnostic value of glypican-3 (GPC3) and its relationship with hepatocellular carci- noma (HCC) recurrence after liver transplantation.
METHODS: HCC tissue samples (n = 31) ...obtained from patients who had undergone liver transplantation were analyzed. GPC3 mRNA and protein expression were analyzed by TaqMan real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction and immunohistochemistry. Correlation between the GPC3 expression and clinicopathological features was analyzed. The potential prognostic value of GPC3 was investigated by comparing recurrence-free survival between HCC patients with and without GPC3 expression.
RESULTS: Using a cutoff value of 3.5× 10^-2, 20 of 31 cancerous tissues had expression values of 〉 3.5× 10^2, whereas 3 of 31 adjacent non-neoplastic paren-chyma and 0 of 20 control liver tissues had expression values of 〉 3.5 × 10^-2 (P 〈 0.001). GPC3 protein was immunoexpressed in 68% of cancerous tissues, but not in adjacent non-neoplastic parenchyma and control liver tissues. Vascular invasion was significantly related to GPC3 expression (P 〈 0.05). Recurrence-free sur- vival was significantly longer for patients without GPC3 mRNA overexpression (〉 3.5 × 10^2) and those without vascular invasion (P 〈 0.05 for both).
CONCLUSION: GPC3 expression may serve as a valuable diagnostic marker for HCC. GPC3 mRNA overexpression may be an adverse indicator for HCC patients after liver transplantation.
To address the problems existing in current college programming education, we consider that the cultivation of security coding ability may be combined within existing courses, such as programming ...courses, operating system and software engineering curriculum, etc. This paper reviews the authors' several-year practice of integrating the training of the students' security coding ability with programming courses. Three key stages of practice are introduced, which are organic combination with programming curricula, choosing proper textbooks and the introduction of security coding examples. The authors strive to achieve three improvements in the cultivation of students' ability: improvements from defensive programming to security programming, adding secure functions instead of security functions, and paying more attention to enhancing the software quality instead of security. The main contents of security software coding best practices integrated into our teaching practice are given. The testing result shows that the students' security coding ability can be improved, and in fact many of whom have performed well in job interview and get a good job.
To explore the application value of serum total IgE, tryptase and chymase in the identification of death caused by drug anaphylactic shock.
The general information from 235 cases of non-drug ...anaphylactic shock and 32 cases of drug anaphylactic shock were analyzed. The serum IgE level had been detected in the cases. Ten cases caused by coronary disease and 10 cases caused by sudden manhood death syndrome were selected from non-drug anaphylactic shock cases for the control group. Expressions of tryptase and chymase in the lung and heart were detected using immunohistochemistry method. The number and IOD of positive mast cells were counted.
In the drug anaphylactic shock group, the IgE value of 18 samples (56.25%) was significantly higher than the normal upper limit of 120 IU/mL. In the non-drug anaphylactic shock group, the IgE value of 67 samples (28.51%) was higher than 120 IU/mL. The expressions of tryptase and chymase were significantly increased in lung and myocardial tissue in drug anaphylactic shock grou
Background Neovascular glaucoma (NVG) is a refractory disease which is difficult to manage. This study aimed at evaluating the efficacy and safety of adjunctive intravitreal bevacizumab (IVB) ...injection in conjunction with Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation (AGVI) in the management of NVG. Methods This was a retrospective study of patients with NVG in whom AGVI was performed between October 2008 and May 2012. The sample was divided into two groups according to the pretreatment: with adjunctive IVB injection (the IVB group, n=25 eyes) and without adjunctive IVB injection (the control group, n=28 eyes). The surgical success rate, number of antiglaucoma medications used, best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), postoperative complications, regression, and recurrence of iris neovascularization (NVI) were analyzed between the groups. Results The surgical outcomes of the two groups were compared. The complete success rates in the IVB and control groups were 84.0% and 64.3% at 12 months and 80.0% and 53.6% at 18 months, respectively. There was a significant difference between the two groups (P=0.041). Mean postoperative intraocular pressures, mean number of postoperative antiglaucoma medications, and BCVA were not significant between the two groups. The NVI in 22 (88.0%) eyes had completely regressed within 2-8 days after IVB. However, NVI recurred in 10 eyes (40.0%) 2-9 months later after IVB. The IVB group had only 1 case (4.0%) of hyphema out of 25 eyes, while there were 8 (28.6%) cases of hyphema out of 28 eyes in the control group (P=0.026).Conclusions This study showed that preoperative IVB injection reduced NVI remarkably, decreased hyphema, and led to higher surgical success rates. Pre-operative IVB injection may be an effective adjunct to AGVI in the management of NVG.
In this paper, a low power baseline JPEG image compressor architecture, to be interfaced directly with an image sensor, has been presented. It compresses the raster YCbCr 4:2:2 image data from the ...image sensor into JPEG format. The compressed image data are being packed into byte format and DMA can be used to retrieve the JPEG image. The JPEG image compression chip is designed using 0.18-μm CMOS technology. It consumes 1.69mW when compressing at 7.49 (VGA) frames per second.
Safety is the most important aspect in all design of a battery system. In order to improve the safety of a lithium-ion battery, the power system must be able to detect, isolate and control the fault ...in the battery. However, it is important to simulate the state of charge (SOC), state of health (SOH) and active cell balancing before designing a fault tolerant control for the battery power system. In this paper, a complete 12-cell 50Ah battery power system using MATLABTM/Simulink TM was performed. A simple fault control algorithm to shut down the entire battery system automatically in the event of a failure was simulated successfully.
Epitope LKVIRK on 47kDa of heat shock protein (Hsp) 90 ofCandida albicans, corresponding to residues 386-391 of the Hsp90, is recognized by patients recovering from invasive candidiasis. The efficacy ...of hybrid phage displaying epitope LKVIRK in the N-terminal region of the major coat protein (pVIII) in inducing anti-invasive candidiasis immune response was studied in C57BL/6 mice. Indirect phage-ELISA results demonstrated that the mice immunized with hybrid phage had significantly higher titers of epitope LKVIRK-specific serum IgG as compared to those immunized with heat-killedC. albicans(HK-CA). C57BL/6 mice immunized either with hybrid phage or with wild-type phage also developed significant levels of delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH) response and splenocyte proliferation, as well as with HK-CA. In addition, high levels of IFN-γ in the CD4+splenocytes from phage-immunized mice were detected as well during 1 week post-inoculation. Furthermore, mice immunized with hybrid phage acquired a resistance to systemicC. albicansinfection as confirmed by fewerC. albicanscells in the kidneys, and had a longer lifespan compared to control groups following intravenous challenge withC. albicans. These results indicate that hybrid phage displaying epitope LKVIRK may serve as a potential vaccine conferring a resistance to systemic candidiasis.
