The talent of the reader In this short essay, personal recollections of important moments of university life spent with Fabrizio are accompanied by some considerations on the art of reading, which Fabrizio Frasnedi was a great interpreter and precursor of, both in his didactic and performative practice in humanistic studies in the wake of the suggestions of a Master like George Steiner.
To determine whether subfoveal choroidal blood flow is altered in retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and whether this alteration is associated with central cone-mediated dysfunction.
In 31 RP patients (age ...range, 15-72 years) with preserved visual acuity (range: 20/30-20/20), subfoveal choroidal blood flow was measured by real-time, confocal laser Doppler flowmetry, and focal macular (18°) electroretinograms (FERGs) were elicited by 41 Hz flickering stimuli. Twenty normal subjects served as controls. The following average blood flow parameters were determined based on three 60-second recordings: volume (ChBVol), velocity (ChBVel), and flow (ChBF), the last being proportional to blood flow if the hematocrit remains constant. The amplitude and phase of the FERG first harmonic component were measured.
On average, ChBF and ChBVel were reduced by 26% (P ≤ 0.02) in RP patients compared to controls, whereas ChBVol was similar in the two groups. FERG amplitudes were reduced by 60% (P < 0.01) in patients compared with controls. FERG phases of patients tended to be delayed (P < 0.08) compared with their values in the controls. In patients, FERG phase delays were correlated (r = 0.50, P < 0.01) with ChBF and ChBVel values. FERG amplitudes were correlated (r = 0.49, P < 0.01) with ChBVol values.
These data indicate significant alterations of subfoveal choroidal hemodynamic in RP and suggest a link between the alteration of ChBF and the RP-associated central cone-mediated dysfunction as assessed by the FERG.
Warning Does justice have a face? And what personal story exists behind those who commit a crime? And, again, how does justice intervene on the biography of a defendant? How, in the event of loss of ...personal freedom, does justice change the physiognomy of the condemned? In the section Physiognomy and biography, the reports of the jurists who participated in the Ventotene conference in 2022 were accepted: not refereed essays, but important contributions for the dissemination of legal culture that introduce necessary reflections on the application of precautionary measures (Antinori), on functions of punishment (Santinelli), on defensive instances (Sgroi), on procedural guarantees (Truppa). With this section, enriched by a reflection on Dante and the ethical responsibility of literature in the face of evil (Anselmi), we hope to contribute to the public communication of justice and, to quote Camporesi, of the government of the body, because every individual choice, from crime to judgment to punishment, it affects flesh and blood individuals, whether they are guilty or innocent.

The essay has a methodological and hermeneutic goal, that is to verify the effectiveness of the current state of DH in relation to philological and literary studies and to the infinite field of ...‘augmented reality’ and the ‘virtual’ universe achieved by the achievements of information technology and nanotechnologies. With some deliberate ‘provocation’ the essay shows the criticalities and the not small shadows of these intertwining, proposing new epistemic knots to be covered by the DH, under penalty of their perpetual subordination to the ‘technique without thought’ with the consequent inability to truly renew in the deep the horizons of our studies. It is necessary to play the best of technological innovations in a process of equal alliance, completely unexplored for now, and capable of moving from research to teaching to publishing itself.
The essay sets out to explore, on the one hand, the relationship that d’Annunzio and Pasolini had with myth and the sacred, and, on the other hand, to investigate, in an anthropological perspective, ...the causes and consequences of the ‘dissolution’ of values related to an ancestral and rural religiosity in modern and contemporary society.
Focusing on Machiavelli’s Asino, this essay aims to highlight possible intertexual references to the Florentine and the classical traditions. This paper will also analyse Machiavelli’s work within ...its sixteenth-century literary context : as I intend to prove, sixteenth-century texts bring to light the complex, double and grotesque nature of human action by means of such features as animality and naturalism.
