A SensL MicroFC-SMT-60035 6×6 mm2 silicon photo-multiplier coated with a NOL-1 wavelength shifter have been tested in the liquid xenon to detect the 175-nm scintillation light. For comparison, a ...Hamamatsu vacuum ultraviolet sensitive MPPC VUV3 3×3 mm2 was tested under the same conditions. The photodetection efficiency of 13.1±2.5% and 6.0±1.0%, correspondingly, is obtained.
Whipple's disease is caused by Tropheryma whipplei and is known to have protean clinical presentation which could be influenced by patient's immunologic and genetic features. In contemporary ...literature abundant amount of data could be found on extensive prevalence of infectious endocarditis caused by Tropheryma whipplei. This article presents history of a patient who was observed because of ischemic heart disease, angina pectoris, myocardial infarction, possible ischemic cardiomyopathy and in whom infectious endocarditis complicated by severe aortic regurgitation needing aortic valve replacement surgery was eventually diagnosed. Our patient did not meet Duke criteria, which is a sign of infectious endocarditis caused by Tropheryma whipplei, but a thorough analysis of the disease course, clinical features, heart ultrasound and clinical improvement on specific therapy against Tropheryma whipplei aroused our suspicion, and morphological and bacteriological analysis of the involved (excised) valve, confirmed the diagnosis of Whipple disease. The article presents differential diagnostic criteria of aortic insufficiency and possible causes of coronary insufficiency in the absence of marked coronary atherosclerosis.

To evaluate the applicability of multipixel Geiger photodiodes in experiments searching for dark matter, such device from different manufacturers were studied in liquid and gaseous xenon. The ...detection efficiency for scintillation radiation at a wavelength of 175 nm was <1%. Measurements in gaseous xenon have shown the presence of a component in the visible or infrared region and the absence of this component in liquid xenon. It has been concluded that further studies in this field must be performed using wavelength-shifting materials and photodiodes featuring the highest quantum sensitivity in the region of emission of the reemitter.

Цель. Оценить влияния традиционных факторов сердечно-сосудистого риска на суммарную площадь атеросклеротической бляшки (АСБ) в экстракраниальных сегментах сонных артерий.Материалы и методы. ...Обследованы 83 пациента (45 мужчин, 38 женщин) в возрасте 53,1±7,9 года (35- 68 лет) без верифицированной ишемической болезни сердца с одним или более традиционными факторами сердечно-сосудистого риска. Атеросклеротические изменения в сонных артериях оценивались при ультразвуковом исследовании. АСБ определялась как локальное утолщение стенки сосуда более чем на 50% в сравнении с окружающими участками или локальное утолщение стенки более чем 1,5 мм с его протрузией в просвет артерии. Площадь АСБ измерялась в продольной плоскости с наилучшей визуализацией бляшки.Результаты. Артериальная гипертензия отмечалась у 67 (81%) пациентов, курили 18 (44%) обследованных, количество пациентов с отягощенной наследственностью было 18 (22%). Уровень общего холестерина составил 5,7±1,1 ммоль/л, липопротеинов низкой плотности (ЛПНП) - 3,6±0,9 ммоль/л, липопротеинов высокой плотности - 1,2±0,3 ммоль/л, триглицеридов 1,9±0,97 ммоль/л. Среднее значение систолического артериального давления было 123,1±13,7 мм рт. ст., индекса курильщика (ИК) - 6,5±11,2 пачко-лет, суммарной площади АСБ (СПАСБ) - 0,11±0,22 см2. Была выявлена статистически значимая зависимость СПАСБ от возраста, уровня ЛПНП и ИК: увеличение возраста на 1 год приводит к увеличению площади бляшки на 0,0013 см2 (95% ДИ 0,0003-0,0023; р= 0,001). При увеличении уровня ЛПНП на 1 ммоль/л СПАСБ растет на 0,0121 см2 (95% ДИ 0,0035-0,0207; р= 0,006). При росте ИК на 1 пачко-лет площадь бляшки увеличивается на 0,0034 см2 (95% ДИ 0,0027-0,0041; р< 0,0001). Выводы. У бессимптомных пациентов возраст, уровень ЛПНП и ИК являются факторами, наиболее сильно влияющими на суммарную площадь АСБ сонных артерий.
Цель. Оценить взаимосвязь между традиционными факторами сердечно-сосудистого риска и выраженностью атеросклеротических изменений в сонных артериях.Материалы и методы. Обследован 121 пациент (66 ...мужчин, 55 женщин) в возрасте 54,3±8 лет (35-73 лет) без верифицированной ишемической болезни сердца с одним или более традиционными факторами сердечно-сосудистого риска. Выраженность субклинического атеросклероза в сонных артериях оценивалась при ультразвуковом исследовании по толщине комплекса интима-медиа (ТКИМ). Измерение ТКИМ выполнялось в продольной плоскости по задней стенке в трех точках дистального отдела общей сонной артерии билатерально с расчетом среднего значения. Для каждого обследованного был определен 10-летний сердечно-сосудистый риск (ССР) по шкале SCORE.Результаты. Артериальная гипертензия отмечалась у 100 (83%) пациентов, гиперхолестеринемия - у 86 (71%), курили 43 (36%) обследованных, количество пациентов с отягощенной наследственностью -25 (21%). При этом 10 (8%) пациентов имели 1 фактор риска (ФР), 38 (31%) - 2 ФР, 48 (40%) - 3 ФР,19 (16%) - 4 ФР и 6 (5%) - 5 ФР. Расчетный сердечно-сосудистый риск по шкале SCORE составил 3,03±2,67%. Средняя величина ТКИМ составила 0,81±0,14 мм. Была выявлена статистически значимая взаимосвязь ТКИМ с количеством ФР и уровнем расчетного сердечного риска - при добавлении 1 ФР ТКИМ-медиа увеличивается на 0,05 мм (95% ДИ 0,02-0,07; р= 0,0006). При увеличении ССР на 1% ТКИМ растет на 0,02 мм (95% ДИ 0,01-0,03; р= 0,0002).Выводы. У бессимптомных пациентов количество традиционных ФР и расчетный ССР влияют на выраженность атеросклеротических изменений в сонных артериях.
Cardiovascular risk (CVR) stratification plays an important role in the primary prevention of atherosclerosis and associated disorders. The standard scales for CVR assessment (Framingham scale, SCORE ...scale, etc.) are focused on a limited number of traditional risk factors (RFs) and, therefore, neither produce precise individual risk estimates, nor increase the effectiveness of preventive interventions. One of the methods for CVR assessment optimisation is the diagnostics of subclinical atherosclerosis, based on the direct visualisation of preclinical atherosclerotic changes in arterial wall. Extracranial carotid artery (CA) ultrasound and assessment of the intima-media thickness (IMT) index or atherosclerotic plaque volume (PV) is an important method of the preclinical atherosclerosis diagnostics. The review discusses pathogenetic mechanisms of IMT increase, the standards of ultrasound IMT assessment and its interpretation, and the role of the information obtained for optimization of the CVR evaluation.
An optical technique for detecting ionization electrons produced during ionization of the liquid phase has been experimentally tested in two-phase (liquid-gas) xenon.
