Collectively, our study uncovers the heterogeneity and interacting molecules of the TME in NPC at single-cell resolution, which provide insights into the mechanisms underlying NPC progression and the development of precise therapies for NPC.
Ferulic acid, a kind of phenolic substance widely existing in plants, is an important active component of many traditional Chinese medicines. So far, it has been proved that ferulic acid has a ...variety of biological activities, especially in oxidative stress, inflammation, vascular endothelial injury, fibrosis, apoptosis and platelet aggregation. Many studies have shown that ferulic acid can inhibit PI3K/AKT pathway, the production of ROS and the activity of aldose reductase. The anti-inflammatory effect of ferulic acid is mainly related to the levels of PPAR γ, CAM and NF-κ B and p38 MAPK signaling pathways. Ferulic acid not only protects vascular endothelium by ERK1/2 and NO/ET-1 signal, but also plays an anti-fibrosis role by TGF-β/Smad and MMPs/TIMPs system. Moreover, ferulic acid has ant-apoptotic and anti-platelet effects. In addition to the pharmacological effects of ferulic acid, its pharmacokinetics and derivatives were also discussed in this paper. This review provides the latest summary of the latest research on ferulic acid.

The faithful storage and coherent manipulation of quantum states with matter-systems would enable the realization of large-scale quantum networks based on quantum repeaters. To achieve useful ...communication rates, highly multimode quantum memories are required to construct a multiplexed quantum repeater. Here, we present a demonstration of on-demand storage of orbital-angular-momentum states with weak coherent pulses at the single-photon-level in a rare-earth-ion-doped crystal. Through the combination of this spatial degree-of-freedom (DOF) with temporal and spectral degrees of freedom, we create a multiple-DOF memory with high multimode capacity. This device can serve as a quantum mode converter with high fidelity, which is a fundamental requirement for the construction of a multiplexed quantum repeater. This device further enables essentially arbitrary spectral and temporal manipulations of spatial-qutrit-encoded photonic pulses in real time. Therefore, the developed quantum memory can serve as a building block for scalable photonic quantum information processing architectures.
Cosmic plasmas are considered as the most abundant form of ordinary matter in the Universe while observations of the cosmic dust in different regions provide an insight into the Universe's recycling ...processes. For different types of the cosmic dusty plasmas, we hereby, with the symbolic computation and observational/experimental supports, study a (3+1)-dimensional generalized variable-coefficient Kadomtsev-Petviashvili-Burgers-type equation, which can describe the electron-acoustic, dust-acoustic, positron-acoustic, dust-magneto-acoustic, ion-acoustic, magneto-acoustic, ion, quantum-dust-ion-acoustic or dust-ion-acoustic waves in one of the cosmic/laboratory dusty plasmas. With respect to the fluctuation of the electron or ion density, or perturbation of the magnitude of the magnetic field, or electrostatic wave potential, or radial-direction component of the velocity of ions or dust particles, a set of the auto-Bäcklund transformations, several soliton families and a set of the similarity reductions are symbolically computed out, depending on the variable coefficients which represent the dispersion, nonlinearity, geometric effect, Burgers/dusty-fluid-viscosity dissipation and diffraction/transverse perturbation. Variable-coefficient constraints on the soliton solutions are presented. Our analytic results are in agreement with those dusty-plasma-experimentally reported. Future dusty-plasma experiments and observations might justify some other effects hereby offered.

Osteosarcoma is a highly malignant tumor. The molecular mechanism of its occurrence and development has not yet been clarified. Current studies have found that noncoding RNAs, such as circular RNAs ...(circRNAs) and microRNAs (miRNAs), play important regulatory roles in the progression of diseases. Our previous studies have shown that miR-19b is an oncogene in osteosarcoma. Further studies have shown that circ_ANKIB1 has binding sites for miR-19b, and both molecules were generally upregulated in osteosarcoma cells. RIP assay, RNA pull down, and dual-luciferase reporter gene assay showed that circ_ANKIB1 could directly bind to miR-19b and act as an miR-19b sponge in osteosarcoma cells. Circ_ANKIB1 promoted miR-19b expression, inhibited the expression of the downstream target gene SOCS3, and then activated the STAT3 pathway. When cotransfected with circ_ANKIB1 siRNA, and miR-19b mimics, the expression of SOCS3 and the phosphorylation level of STAT3 did not change significantly. Continuous detection of cell growth and invasion showed that the downregulation of circ_ANKIB1 or miR-19b significantly inhibited cell proliferation and invasion, but increased the apoptotic level. When cotransfected with circ_ANKIB1 siRNA and miR-19b mimics or SOCS3 siRNA, the cell proliferation, apoptosis, and invasion levels did not change significantly, suggesting that circ_ANKIB1 could affect the STAT3 pathway and osteosarcoma cell growth and invasion by enhancing the regulation of miR-19b on the downstream target gene SOCS3. These findings suggest that circRNAs stabilize miRNA functions, and further studies on this new function of circRNAs will provide a meaningful reference for the diagnosis and treatment of tumors and other diseases.

Recent progress in optical fibers is impressive, while nonlinear Schrödinger-type models are seen in fiber optics and other fields (such as ferromagnetism, plasma physics, Bose–Einstein condensation ...and oceanography). Hereby, our symbolic computation on a three-coupled variable-coefficient nonlinear Schrödinger system is performed, for the picosecond-pulse attenuation/amplification in a multicomponent inhomogeneous optical fiber with diverse polarizations/frequencies. For the slowly-varying envelopes of optical modes, we obtain a similarity reduction, an auto-Bäcklund transformation and some analytic solutions, which rely on the optical-fiber variable coefficients, i.e., the fiber loss/gain, nonlinearity and group velocity dispersion. Relevant variable-coefficient constraints are presented. Our results might be of some use in the construction of logic gates, optical computing, soliton switching, design of fiber directional couplers, quantum information processing, soliton amplification in the wavelength division multiplexing systems, solitonic studies in the all-optical devices and birefringence fiber systems.

In the Solar System, water and water waves are commonly seen: For the Earth, water is “at the core of sustainable development” and “at the heart of adaptation to climate change”; For the Enceladus, ...Cassini spacecraft discovers a possible global ocean of liquid water beneath an icy crust; For the Titan, Cassini spacecraft suggests an icy shell floating atop a global ocean. Shallow water waves near the ocean beaches or in the lakes can be described by the Boussinesq-Burgers-type equations. In this Letter, on the higher-order Boussinesq-Burgers system, symbolic computation helps us to go from the two-dimensional Bell polynomials to construct two non-auto-Bäcklund transformations and to proceed from the Painlevé-Bäcklund format to obtain four auto-Bäcklund transformations with some soliton solutions. All of our results are shown to be dependent on the constant coefficient in the system.

Promoting copper catalysts with C60Ethylene glycol, a commodity chemical used as a feedstock and antifreeze agent, is synthesized industrially from dimethyl oxalate (DMO) by hydrogenation over ...precious-metal palladium catalysts at high pressures (typically 20 bars). Copper-chromium catalysts supported on silica as an alternative have required even high pressures. Zheng et al. show the addition of fullerene (C60) onto copper-silica allows DMO hydrogenation to be performed at ambient pressures with high yield (98%) and without deactivation after 1000 hours (see the Perspective by Gravel and Doris). The use of C60 to stabilize electron-deficient copper species that enhance hydrogen adsorption could likely be applied to other hydrogenation reactions catalyzed by copper. —PDS
