The 2'-5'-oligoadenylate synthetases (OASs) are members of a family of interferon-induced proteins playing an important role in the antiviral effect of interferons as well as being involved in ...apoptosis and control of cellular growth. Based on sequence data from the murine BAC clone (RP23-39M18), and a number of EST and IMAGE clones and the Celera Mouse database, we identified twelve Oas genes in the mouse genome, all localized to the chromosome 5F region. In contrast to the single OAS1 gene found in humans, we identified eight closely linked Oas1 genes in the murine genome, together with the genes of Oas2 and Oas3. Compared to the single OASL gene found in humans, two genes of OAS-like proteins, Oasl1 and Oasl2, were identified. All the putative genes seem to be transcribed. The exon/intron structures of the murine Oas genes were found to be identical to those of the human genes.

We report the complete GNO solar neutrino results for the measuring periods GNO III, GNO II, and GNO I. The result for GNO III (last 15 solar runs) is 54.3−9.3+9.9(stat)±2.3(syst)SNU(1σ) or ...54.3−9.6+10.2(incl. syst) SNU (1σ) with errors combined. The GNO experiment is now terminated after altogether 58 solar exposure runs that were performed between 20 May 1998 and 9 April 2003. The combined result for GNO (I+II+III) is 62.9−5.3+5.5(stat)±2.5(syst) SNU (1σ) or 62.9−5.9+6.0 SNU (1σ) with errors combined in quadrature. Overall, gallium based solar observations at LNGS (first in GALLEX, later in GNO) lasted from 14 May 1991 through 9 April 2003. The joint result from 123 runs in GNO and GALLEX is 69.3±5.5(incl. syst) SNU (1σ). The distribution of the individual run results is consistent with the hypothesis of a neutrino flux that is constant in time. Implications from the data in particle- and astrophysics are reiterated.

Using the large acceptance apparatus FOPI, we study central and semi-central collisions in the reactions (energies in A GeV are given in parentheses): 40Ca+40Ca (0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0, 1.5, 1.93), ...58Ni+58Ni (0.15, 0.25, 0.4), 96Ru+96Ru (0.4, 1.0, 1.5), 96Zr+96Zr (0.4, 1.0, 1.5), 129Xe+CsI (0.15, 0.25, 0.4), 197Au+197Au (0.09, 0.12, 0.15, 0.25, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0, 1.2, 1.5). The observables include directed and elliptic flow. The data are compared to earlier data where possible and to transport model simulations. A stiff nuclear equation of state is found to be incompatible with the data. Evidence for extra-repulsion of neutrons in compressed asymmetric matter is found.

We present measurements of the excitation function of elliptic flow at midrapidity in Au+Au collisions at beam energies from 0.09 to 1.49 GeV per nucleon. For the integral flow, we discuss the ...interplay between collective expansion and spectator shadowing for three centrality classes. A complete excitation function of transverse momentum dependence of elliptic flow is presented for the first time in this energy range, revealing a rapid change with incident energy below 0.4 AGeV, followed by an almost perfect scaling at the higher energies. The equation of state of compressed nuclear matter is addressed through comparisons to microscopic transport model calculations.

We report on the first analysis of directed and elliptic flow with the new method of Lee-Yang zeros. Experimental data are presented for Ru+Ru reactions at 1.69A GeV measured with the FOPI detector ...at SIS/GSI. The results obtained with several methods, based on the event-plane reconstruction, on Lee-Yang zeros, and on multiparticle cumulants (up to fifth order) applied for the first time at SIS energies, are compared. They show conclusive evidence that azimuthal correlations between nucleons and composite particles at this energy are largely dominated by anisotropic flow.
