According to the latest statistics from WHO for all cancers, lung cancer tops the list with a 14.5% prevalence and a 22% death rate in men, similar to the prevalence in women, which is 13.8%. It is ...also the number one killer of cancer in China, with 40 in every 100,000 people suffering
from lung cancer. HIF-1α is widely present in human cells in hypoxic environments. It regulates the body's response to hypoxia, cell oxygen balance, and hypoxia gene expression; participates in the proliferation and apoptosis of non-small cell lung cancer cells; participates in the invasion,
metastasis, and neovascularization of tumor tissues; and affects the treatment and prognosis of non-small cell lung cancer. In view of the role of HIF-1α in the occurrence and development of non-small cell lung cancer, blocking HIF-1α by use of a single medication or combination
chemotherapy has become a research hotspot. This review summarizes the role of HIF-1α in non-small cell lung cancer and provides new ideas for the treatment of this cancer type by synthesizing the research results of various authors.
In this study, investigations of sintering behavior and properties were performed on lithium-stabilized Na-β''-alumina (LiSBA) ceramics with and without 15 wt% 8 mol% Y2O3 stabilized ZrO2 (8YSZ) ...addition synthesized by solid phase reaction. Changes of phase composition, relative density, and grain size in the ceramics sintered at different temperature were analyzed. It was shown that phase transformation in sintering ceramics was controlled by relationship between the Na2O evaporation and Li+ ions stabilization, while microstructure evolution was controlled by pore-boundary interaction. LiSBA with YSZ addition (Zr-LiSBA) showed more significant variation of β'' phase fractions, slower grain growth and faster densification with increasing sintering temperature, which were caused by enhanced Na2O evaporation and gas transport by oxygen ion conductor ZrO2 as well as the drag effect by second phase particles of YSZ in Zr-LiSBA ceramics. Zr-LiSBA specimens sintered at optimized condition achieved higher Vickers microhardness and intermediate Na+ ion conductivity.

The fruits of Lycium barbarum are considered medicinal foods with high nutritional value and bioactivity. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of a crude L. barbarum polysaccharide (LBP) ...and two derived fractions, LBP-1 and LBP-2, on the lifespan of Drosophila melanogaster (fruit fly). The average lifespan of fruit flies was extended by supplementing their diet with either of the three LBP preparations. In vivo analysis of antioxidant activities detected increased superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) activities and decreased malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. Dietary LBP supplements significantly reduced the mortality rate of fruit flies induced by paraquat and hydrogen peroxide. Importantly, the strongest anti-aging activity was exhibited by the LBP-2 fraction, containing arabinogalactan with a molecular weight of 9 × 104 Da. Further studies showed that the anti-aging activity of LBP was, at least in part, mediated by an age-related signaling pathway (MAPK, TOR, S6K) and the expression of longevity genes (Hep, MTH, and Rpn11).
We study the MA transmutation characteristics in the high flux thermal reactor, our calculation shows that different MA nuclides may have the drastically different effects on keff, Np-237, Am-241 and ...Am-243 decrease keff greatly, Cm-244 affects the keff slightly, but Cm-245 boosts the keff significantly. The MA nuclides actually can act as the burnable poisons in the thermal reactors.
The SCALE simulation shows that after 300-day-exposure in high flux thermal reactor the disappearance rate of Np-237, Am-241 and Am-243 are 73.7%, 98.1% and 82.8% respectively. The SCALE simulation results also show that the total transmutation rate of MA nuclides by fission which include direct and indirect fission after 300-day-exposure in the high flux thermal reactor is 6.3%. The SCALE simulation indicates at least 44.2% MA nuclides transmute to plutonium isotopes by various reactions and 63% of the Pu-238 in the MOX fuel is consumed during 300-day-exposure in this reactor.

Microorganisms play a pivotal role in nutrient cycling in aquatic ecosystems. Understanding bacterial diversity and its functional composition are crucial for aquatic ecology and protection. We ...investigated the bacterial community structure using 16S rRNA gene amplicons high-throughput sequencing in this study. Results showed that 105 amplicon sequence variants (ASVs) account for 43.8% of the total sequences shared by the Nandu River's lower, middle, and upper reach and the Songtao Reservoir. The dominant bacterial phylum in the Nandu River and its connected Songtao Reservoir were Proteobacteria and Actinobacteriota, respectively. The highest Chao1 and Shannon index values were found in the lower reach of the Nandu River. Beta diversity analysis showed the divergence in bacterial communities in the Nandu River and Songtao Reservoir, but not in different reaches. Among the water properties, based on the Mantel test, dissolved oxygen, total nitrogen, and nitrite significantly affected the bacterial communities. The functional profiles predicted by Tax4Fun2 showed that metabolism was the most abundant function group. The relative abundance of genetic information processing was significantly higher in the Songtao Reservoir than in the Nandu River, while the relative abundance of human diseases was significantly lower in the Songtao Reservoir than in the Nandu River. The appearance of the xenobiotics biodegradation and metabolism function group requires us to pay more attention to possible water pollution, especially at the upper reach of the Nandu River.
Background Gut microbiota is closely related to the occurrence and development of diabetes and affects the prognosis of diabetic complications, and the underlying mechanisms are only partially ...understood. We aimed to explore the possible link between the gut microbiota and vascular inflammation of diabetic mice. Methods The db/db diabetic and wild-type (WT) mice were used in this study. We profiled gut microbiota and examined the and vascular function in both db/db group and WT group. Gut microbiota was analyzed by 16s rRNA sequencing. Vascular function was examined by ultrasonographic hemodynamics and histological staining. Clostridium butyricum (CB) was orally administered to diabetic mice by intragastric gavage every 2 days for 2 consecutive months. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) and expression of nuclear factor erythroid-derived 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) were detected by fluorescence microscopy. The mRNA expression of inflammatory cytokines was tested by quantitative polymerase chain reaction. Results Compared with WT mice, CB abundance was significantly decreased in the gut of db/db mice, together with compromised vascular function and activated inflammation in the arterial tissue. Meanwhile, ROS in the vascular tissue of db/db mice was also significantly increased. Oral administration of CB restored the protective microbiota, and protected the vascular function in the db/db mice via activating the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway. Conclusion This study identified the potential link between decreased CB abundance in gut microbiota and vascular inflammation in diabetes. Therapeutic delivery of CB by gut transplantation alleviates the vascular lesions of diabetes mellitus by activating the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway.
Hydatid cystic disease (HCD) is primarily a disease of sheep and cattle. Human beings are accidental hosts. It is prevalent in the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) of China. In pregnancy, it can cause ...many complications.
We present a multigravida with breech presentation at 37 weeks of pregnancy in whom a large pelvic hydatid cyst and multiple hepatic hydatids were diagnosed by ultrasonography. The large pelvic hydatid cyst was drained through the posterior fornix under the guidance of ultrasound, and an external cephalic version was performed. A healthy baby was delivered vaginally with head presentation at term.
HCD during pregnancy presents with management difficulty. It is important to formulate individualized treatment plans according to the actual situation of the patient and the local level of treatment.
