0.8Sn
0.2MnO
3 (LSM) powder by a vibration mill has been carried out with the intention of giving a higher surface area and a good thermal stability. The specific surface ...area of the LSM powder increased with operation time and reached up to 34 m
2 g
−1 for 350 h. XRD measurement and chemical analysis showed that during the grinding operation, the crystal structure of the LSM powder was kept and that the extent of the contamination was negligibly small. In CH
4 oxidation at 400°C and N
2O reduction at 450°C over the ground LSM powder, both conversions were raised proportional to the increasing specific surface area. Furthermore, the thermal stability of the ground LSM powder was improved by grinding it together with CeO
2 powder. The fine dispersion of CeO
2 particles around the LSM particles effectively depressed the sintering of the LSM powder at elevated temperatures.

A potentiometric hydrocarbon sensor which consists of a single comaprtment cell has been constructed using a high temperature proton conductor as a solid electrolyte. A sensor element, Pd | ...CaZr0.9In0.1O3-α | Au, gave stable EMFs for methane, ethane or propane in air at 700° C. The 90% response time was less than 10 s, and the relationship between EMF and hydrocarbon content was almost linear. The sensing mechanism was based on a steam concentration cell, which resulted from the difference in combustion activity for hydrocarbons between the two electrodes.
The CALorimetric Electron Telescope, CALET, mission is proposed for the Japanese Experiment Module Exposure Facility of the International Space Station. Major goals of the mission are precise ...measurements of the electrons in a few GeV - 10 TeV and the gamma-rays in 100 MeV - several TeV, keeping an energy resolution of a few % over 100 GeV. From the measurements, a systematic investigation of high-energy electromagnetic process in universe will be performed. A detection of SUSY particle which is a candidate of the dark matter would also be expected. The detector is composed of an imaging calorimeter of scintillating fibers and a total absorption calorimeter. Total thickness of the absorber is 45 r.1 for electro-magnetic particles and 2.1 m.f.p for protons. Total weight of the payload is nearly 2,200 kg, and the effective geometrical factor should be ∼ 1.0 m
2sr. The hadron rejection power can be 10
6 for electrons.
