Trichoderma spp. are effective biocontrol agents for many plant pathogens, thus the mechanism of Trichoderma-induced plant resistance is not fully understood. In this study, a novel Trichoderma ...strain was identified, which could promote plant growth and reduce the disease index of gray mold caused by Botrytis cinerea in cucumber. To assess the impact of Trichoderma inoculation on the plant response, a multi-omics approach was performed in the Trichoderma-inoculated cucumber plants through the analyses of the plant transcriptome, proteome, and phytohormone content.
A novel Trichoderma strain was identified by morphological and molecular analysis, here named T. longibrachiatum H9. Inoculation of T. longibrachiatum H9 to cucumber roots promoted plant growth in terms of root length, plant height, and fresh weight. Root colonization of T. longibrachiatum H9 in the outer layer of epidermis significantly inhibited the foliar pathogen B. cinerea infection in cucumber. The plant transcriptome and proteome analyses indicated that a large number of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) were identified in cucumber plants 96 h post T. longibrachiatum H9 inoculation. Up-regulated DEGs and DEPs were mainly associated with defense/stress processes, secondary metabolism, and phytohormone synthesis and signaling, including jasmonic acid (JA), ethylene (ET) and salicylic acid (SA), in the T. longibrachiatum H9-inoculated cucumber plants in comparison to untreated plants. Moreover, the JA and SA contents significantly increased in cucumber plants with T. longibrachiatum H9 inoculation.
Application of T. longibrachiatum H9 to the roots of cucumber plants effectively promoted plant growth and significantly reduced the disease index of gray mold caused by B. cinerea. The analyses of the plant transcriptome, proteome and phytohormone content demonstrated that T. longibrachiatum H9 mediated plant systemic resistance to B. cinerea challenge through the activation of signaling pathways associated with the phytohormones JA/ET and SA in cucumber.

Direct and efficient photocatalytic water splitting is critical for sustainable conversion and storage of renewable solar energy. Here, we propose a conceptual design of two-dimensional C3N4-based ...in-plane heterostructure to achieve fast spatial transfer of photoexcited electrons for realizing highly efficient and spontaneous overall water splitting. This unique plane heterostructural carbon ring (Cring)–C3N4 nanosheet can synchronously expedite electron–hole pair separation and promote photoelectron transport through the local in-plane π-conjugated electric field, synergistically elongating the photocarrier diffusion length and lifetime by 10 times relative to those achieved with pristine g-C3N4. As a result, the in-plane (Cring)–C3N4 heterostructure could efficiently split pure water under light irradiation with prominent H2 production rate up to 371 μmol g–1 h–1 and a notable quantum yield of 5% at 420 nm.

Community-supported agriculture (CSA) represents a collaborative model where local farms and community members form partnerships to facilitate the direct delivery of fresh produce from farms to ...consumers. This study primarily investigates the experiences of current CSA members, focusing on the key factors influencing their retention intentions. Employing a convergent parallel mixed methods approach, this study gathers and analyzes both quantitative data (such as factors affecting members' retention intentions) and qualitative data (derived from interviews reflecting members' perceptions of their CSA experiences). The integration of these datasets provides a comprehensive understanding of the factors that shape CSA membership dynamics. The research findings underscore that Convenience, Product Quality, and Positive Interactions are pivotal factors that contribute to members' Intentions to continue their CSA memberships. These insights are crucial for enhancing the services provided to CSA members and hold significant implications for the broader scope of CSA membership research. This study not only fills a critical gap in understanding the Chinese CSA context but also contributes to the global discourse on sustainable agriculture practices and community engagement.

Two-dimensional chirality induced polarization conversion and asymmetric transmission have great potential for polarization applications. We propose graphene-based planar chiral metamaterial and its ...complementary structure with dual functionality of both circular polarization conversion and asymmetric transmission in terahertz (THz) region. The conversion efficiency of chiral structure can reach up to 37.33/λ, which is comparable with three-dimensional chiral structure made of metal due to the unique optoelectronic properties of graphene. The transmission asymmetry of complementary chiral metamaterial originating from the high order plasmonic resonance can be tuned from 0.049% to 3.504% by changing Fermi energy, and the asymmetry can also be enhanced via geometrical optimization. This work raises the prospect of switchable, compact, and on-chip THz polarized devices with graphene materials.

Surfaces and interfaces are of particular importance for optoelectronic and photonic materials as they are involved in many physical and chemical processes such as carrier dynamics, charge transfer, ...chemical bonding, transformation reactions and so on. Terahertz (THz) emission spectroscopy provides a sensitive and nondestructive method for surface or interface analysis of advanced materials ranging from graphene to transition metal dichalcogenides, topological insulators, hybrid perovskites, and mixed-dimensional heterostructures based on 2D materials. In this review paper, we start with the THz radiation mechanisms under ultrafast laser excitation. Then we concentrate on the recent progresses of THz emission spectroscopy on the surface and interface properties of advanced materials, including transient surface photocurrents, surface nonlinear polarization, surface states, interface potential, and gas molecule adsorption/desorption processes. This novel spectroscopic method can not only promote the development of new and compact THz sources, but also provide a nondestructive optical method for surface and interface characterization of photocurrent and nonlinear polarization dynamics of materials.
Cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated antigen-4 (CTLA-4) is a membrane glycoprotein expressed by activated effector T cells (Teffs) and participates in the repression of T cell proliferation, cell cycle ...progression and cytokine production. Currently, antibodies targeting CTLA-4, ipilimumab and tremelimumab are widely used as a therapeutic approach in a variety of human malignancies. However, their detailed mechanism remains unclear. Therefore, in this review, we focused specifically on recent findings concerning the role of CTLA-4 in immune response and also discussed clinical studies of targeting CTLA-4, alone or in combination with other therapies for the treatment of cancers. CTLA-4 blockade is used as a therapeutic approach for the treatment of cancer through competing with CD28-positive costimulation for binding to their shared B7 ligands or exhibiting direct inhibitory effect on signaling molecules in the cytoplasmic tail. At present, antibodies for targeting CTLA-4 or in combination with other therapies significantly reinforced the anti-tumor effect and improved the prognosis of malignant disease. In addition, severe adverse events of targeting CTLA-4 therapy could be a challenge for the development of this therapeutic strategy. This review may provide some new insights for clinical studies of targeting CTLA-4.
A memristive Hopfield neural network (MHNN) with a special activation gradient is proposed by adding a suitable memristor to the Hopfield neural network (HNN) with a special activation gradient. The ...MHNN is simulated and dynamically analyzed, and implemented on FPGA. Then, a new pseudo-random number generator (PRNG) based on MHNN is proposed. The post-processing unit of the PRNG is composed of nonlinear post-processor and XOR calculator, which effectively ensures the randomness of PRNG. The experiments in this paper comply with the IEEE 754-1985 high precision 32-bit floating point standard and are done on the Vivado design tool using a Xilinx XC7Z020CLG400-2 FPGA chip and the Verilog-HDL hardware programming language. The random sequence generated by the PRNG proposed in this paper has passed the NIST SP800-22 test suite and security analysis, proving its randomness and high performance. Finally, an image encryption system based on PRNG is proposed and implemented on FPGA, which proves the value of the image encryption system in the field of data encryption connected to the Internet of Things (IoT).
During the COVID-19 pandemic, it is vital for individuals to comply with the government's prevention and control measures. This study aims to explore determinants of college students' compliance ...behaviour during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This study conducted an online survey among 3,122 individuals aged 18 and above from March to November 2022 in China. Individuals' compliance behaviour was divided into protective behaviour (that includes wearing a mask, maintaining a physical distance, and getting vaccinated) and restrictive behaviour (that includes offering health codes and a nucleic acid test certificate). Individuals' compliance motivation was divided into calculated motivation (including the fear of being infected, the fear of being published, and previous experience of pandemic prevention) and normative motivation (including the sense of social responsibility and trust in government). We defined young people aged between 18 and 24 with a college degree as young elites, and constructed ordinary least squares linear regression to compare their compliance behaviour with young people without a college degree (young non-elites), and non-young people with a college degree (non-young elites).
Almost three years after the outbreak of the pandemic, Chinese individuals retained a high degree of compliance with COVID-19 prevention and control policies, particularly with respect to the provision of health codes. Young elites were more compliant with getting vaccinated, wearing a mask, providing health codes and testing results than their counterparts. The sense of social responsibility and trust in government were the major drivers of young elites' compliance behaviour during the pandemic. Young elites who were male, had a rural "hukou", and were not a member of the China Communist Party were more compliant with COVID-19 prevention and control measures.
This study found that young elites in China had high policy compliance during the COVID-19 pandemic. These young elites' compliance behaviour was driven by their sense of social responsibility and trust in government rather than the fear of being infected and the fear of being punished as a result of violating the regulations. We suggest that in the context of managing health crises, in stead of introducing punitive measures to enforce citizens to comply with the management measures, promoting citizens' sense of social responsibility and building a trusting relationship with citizens contrite to the enhancement of citizens' policy compliance.

Fast charge–discharge capability even at high current densities is desired for supercapacitors. One-step simple synthesis using sol-gel method is used to fabricate binder-free activated carbon ...electrode, where KOH was used to tune the porosity of electrode. The gravimetric capacitance of the optimized electrode is up to 272 F g−1 at a current density of 1 A g−1. More importantly, 75.9% gravimetric capacitance retention is kept at an ultrahigh current density of 50 A g−1. Furthermore, a symmetrical supercapacitor device is assembled in 1 M Et4NBF4 in acetonitrile, which delivers an energy density of 18–25 W h kg−1. Apparently, the carbon material with open rich pores provides short ion diffusion pathways for energy storage and the binder-free method guarantees high conductivity of the whole system, leading to high-rate performance. The porous carbon structure as well as the low-cost and simple design paves the way for fabricating supercapacitors with enhanced rate capability.

Abstract
Water monitoring policies are recommended to ensure ecosystem preservation in industrial and agricultural development. Due to the reduction of water resources and the importance of ...sustainable rice production, it is necessary to develop relevant policies to promote the optimization of water and fertilizer distribution in rice paddy water environments. This article aims to plan the two objectives of water supply and reducing the environmental effects of nitrates in rice cultivation and analyzing the maximum and minimum benefits. By modifying the methods of fertilization and water distribution, the amount of production can be gradually increased by taking into account the harmful effects on the environment. Water and nitrate have a synergistic effect on the growth of paddy rice. However, the amount of runoff that is affected by nitrates is directly related to the pollution of aquatic environments. The results confirmed the correlation between nitrate concentration and production and reported the reduction of its negative effects depending on the management of inflow and outflow to rice fields. Changing the outflow according to the fertilization time and the inflow rate is an effective solution in the fertilizer nitrogen uptake and reducing the nitrate concentration in surface water sources in the long term.
