A bienzymatic cascade has been designed and optimized to obtain enantiopure chlorohydrins starting from the corresponding 1-aryl-2-chlorobut-2-en-1-ones. For the synthesis of these α-chloroenones, a ...two-step sequence was developed consisting of the allylation of the corresponding aldehyde with 3-dichloroprop-1-ene, followed by oxidation and further isomerization. The selective cooperative catalytic system involving ene-reductases (EREDs) and alcohol dehydrogenases (ADHs) afforded the desired optically active chlorohydrins under mild reaction conditions in excellent conversions (up to >99%) and selectivities (up to >99:1 diastereomeric ratio (dr), >99% enantiomeric excess (ee)).

This paper presents the framework and results from the Rest-Mex track at IberLEF 2021. This track considered two tasks: Recommendation System and Sentiment Analysis, using texts from Mexican ...touristic places. The Recommendation System task consists in predicting the degree of satisfaction that a tourist may have when recommending a destination of Nayarit, Mexico, based on places visited by the tourists and their opinions. On the other hand, the Sentiment Analysis task predicts the polarity of an opinion issued by a tourist who traveled to the most representative places in Guanajuato, Mexico. For both tasks, we have built new corpora considering Spanish opinions from the TripAdvisor website. This paper compares and discusses the results of the participants for both tasks.
La comunidad universitaria de la Facultad de Ciencias Forestales (FCF) de la Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León celebra su 35° aniversario. Treinta y cinco años en los que nos sentimos orgullosos de ...pertenecer a esta gran Universidad, y también, a esta gran Facultad, porque desde sus inicios, hace más de tres décadas, se han formado en ella destacados profesionistas, cuya labor ha trascendido en la sociedad.
En septiembre de 1983, un grupo de 13 estudiantes inició sus cursos de Licenciatura en Silvicultura, en la entonces Facultad de Silvicultura y Manejo de Recursos Renovables, escuela en la que se había transformado el Instituto de Silvicultura y Manejo de Recursos Renovables, creado por el Honorable Consejo Universitario en sus reuniones efectuadas en marzo de 1981, como parte de un visionario programa de descentralización de nuestra Máxima Casa de Estudios, en ese tiempo dirigida por el Rector Dr. Alfredo Piñeyro López, con el cual, se pretendía ampliar la cobertura para la formación profesional en Nuevo León. Esto significó un colosal esfuerzo para impulsar el desarrollo económico y social de los neoleoneses, particularmente en Linares.
Background: The use of vegetation is a recurrent practice for fixing soil and will depend on the characteristics of root and the root system. Question and hypothesis: Root chemical composition is ...different among species, and it is influenced by root diameter. Morphological classification is different among species. Studied Species: Broussonetia papyrifera, Decatropis bicolor, Dalea hospes, Caesalpinia mexicana and Zanthoxylum fagara. Study area and dates: Submontane scrub Chipinque Ecological Park, San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo Leon. June to November 2019. Methods: Roots by species were classified into three diameter categories (I 0.1-2.9 mm; II 3-5.9 mm; III 6-9.9 mm). Prior to chemical analysis, the bark was removed from the roots. The chemical composition was determined by sequential fractionation of the cell wall. Root morphology was classified by comparison with established methodologies. Results: A decreasing relationship was found in the hemicellulose and cellulose content with the increase in the root diameter, in all the species they were higher in the diametric categories I (0.1-2.9 mm). The highest lignin contents were found in category III (6-9.9 mm). The order of importance in terms of cellulose content for soil protection was: Dalea hospes > Broussonetia papyrifera > Caesalpinia mexicana > Decatropis bicolor > Zanthoxylum fagara. Conclusions: Based on root chemical composition and root system morphology, a revegetation method is proposed for soil fixation, Dalea hospes and Decatropis bicolor at the top of the slope, Zanthoxylum fagara and Caesalpinia mexicana in the middle and Broussonetia papyrifera at the foot of hillside.
Antecedentes: El uso de vegetación es una práctica recurrente para la fijación de suelo y dependerá de las características del sistema radical. Preguntas e hipótesis: La composición química de las raíces es diferentes entre especies e influenciada por su diámetro. La clasificación morfológica es diferente entre las especies. Especies estudiadas: Broussonetia papyrifera, Caesalpinia mexicana, Dalea hospes, Decatropis bicolor y Zanthoxylum fagara. Área de estudio y fechas: Matorral Submontano, Parque Ecológico Chipinque, San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León. Junio a noviembre 2019. Métodos: Se clasificaron raíces por especie en tres categorías diamétricas (I, 0.1-2.9 mm; II, 3-5.9 mm; III, 6-9.9 mm). Previo a los análisis químicos se retiró la corteza de las raíces. La composición química se determinó por fraccionamiento secuencial de la pared celular. La morfología radical se clasificó por comparación con metodologías establecidas. Resultados: Se encontró una relación decreciente en el contenido de hemicelulosa y celulosa con el aumento del diámetro de raíz, en todas las especies fueron mayores en la categoría diamétrica I. Los mayores contenidos de lignina se encontraron en la categoría III (6-9.9 mm). El orden de importancia considerando el contenido de celulosa para protección de laderas fue: Dalea hospes > Broussonetia papyrifera > Caesalpinia mexicana > Decatropis bicolor > Zanthoxylum fagara. Conclusiones: Con base en la composición química de las raíces y la morfología radical, se propone un método de revegetación para la fijación del suelo, Dalea hospes y Decatropis bicolor en la cima de la ladera, Zanthoxylum fagaray Caesalpinia mexicana en la parte media y Broussonetia papyrifera al pie de la ladera.
ABSTRACT Bulk deposition was studied along an urbanization gradient in the state of Nuevo Leon, Mexico. During a yearlong period seven sites within the Metropolitan Area of Monterrey (MAM) and two ...rural sites (Allende and Linares) were monitored, with the purpose of characterizing deposition and identifying possible patterns between sites. A total of 32 rainfall events were collected. An average pH of 7.15 ± 0.02 was found, which indicates the presence of neutralizing substances in rainwater, as well as an average Electrical Conductivity of 153.96 ± 6.83 μS/cm. The annual accumulated deposition follows the descending order Ca> K> Mg> Fe> Zn> Mn> Cu> Cd> Ni and does not show significant differences between urban and rural areas, with the exception of Ca (p = 0.017). The Principal Component Analysis shows that metals (Cu, Zn, Ni, Mn, and Cd) represent an important pathway in the deposition phenomena and this behavior is maintained through the urbanization gradient, which denotes that the rural areas could be connected to the air basin of the MAM. Seasonal deposition showed that Zn, Fe, Cd, Cu, Ni, Mn Ca, and Mg are higher during autumn and K during winter. Enrichment Factors shows that Zn and Cd were highly enriched, Cu and Ni were moderately enriched, and Ca, K, and Mn were not enriched. Finally, backward trajectories for rural sites showed that only for Allende site a possible carry-over of pollutants is observed during the summer, since the wind currents come preferably from the northern part of the MAM.
The purpose of this paper is to describe the characteristics of the dual-purpose water buffalo production based on the Mexican production system as a model in tropical wetlands. It includes a broad ...literature review emphasizing the most recent and specialized publications examining key findings to improve our understanding in the performance of the buffalo species (
). The complementary topics addressed include reproductive management, parturition, the dam-calf bond, milking routines, and models of confinement and management, in addition to aspects related to milk commercialization. This article summarizes the advances made to date in this production system and its current margins for improvement. The development of dual-purpose water buffalo production systems in Mexico's tropical wetlands is a relatively recent phenomenon that has progressed and improved due to herd management. Buffaloes are an interesting alternative for dual purpose systems that offer several advantages. The lower milk production of this species compared to cattle is its main limitation. However, the properties of their milk allow one to obtain an added value and make this type of farms competitive. In synthesis, consolidating buffalo production in Mexico's tropical wetlands will require broadening our knowledge of this species, and perfecting the most appropriate handling procedures. The activities of government agencies and processing enterprises will play vital roles in achieving the integral modernization of this potentially important economic activity.

El presente estudio se llevó a cabo para evaluar el efecto de Lippia palmeri S. Watson y la sincronización de nutrientes de cuatro dietas para cabras criollas. Se utilizó un modelo de mediciones ...repetidas que evaluó las variables de producción de leche, consumo de alimento y conversión alimenticia. Se utilizaron tres cabras criollas por tratamiento para evaluar las diferencias entre las dietas. Las cabras fueron alimentadas durante un periodo de 3 meses en el que se ofreció consumo controlado de las dietas. De acuerdo con los resultados observados, los tratamientos no mostraron diferencias estadísticas significativas (p>0.05) en las tres variables valoradas. Las cabras en el tratamiento ASINC con ORE (T1) lograron una tendencia de mayor consumo de alimento en comparación con los otros tratamientos. Con respecto a la producción de leche, se observó una variación entre los tratamientos, donde ASINC sin ORE (T2) mostró mayor producción en el mes 1, ASINC con ORE (T1) en el mes 2 y ASINC con ORE (T4) en el último mes de prueba. La producción de leche varió entre 0.543 kg/día y 1.027 kg/día. El consumo de alimento fluctuó entre 0.821 kg/día y 1.588 kg/día mientras que el rechazo de alimento fue de 0.036 kg/día a 0.259 kg/día. Los resultados sugieren que la inclusión de Lippia palmeri S. Watson en la dieta de cabras en lactación no causa cambios en las variables estudiadas, sin embargo, se puede utilizar como un aditivo natural, para apoyar la producción en temporada de escasez de alimento en el agostadero de regiones áridas y semiáridas.

En el sector de los pequeños rumiantes existe un gran interés en medir y mejorar sus sistemas de producción y desempeño ambiental, pues poseen una gran adaptabilidad y habitan distintos ecosistemas, ...con una gran biodiversidad de recursos alimenticios, el pastoreo genera beneficios económico-productivos y medio ambientales. Pero, el manejo no planificado y la sobreexplotación de recursos naturales de estas zonas han ocasionado erosión, agotamiento del agua y desertificación, lo mismo ocurre con los sistemas intensivos de producción y la agricultura que alimenta estas explotaciones. Para comparar innovaciones científicas en la sustentabilidad de los diferentes sistemas de producción de pequeños rumiantes, se realizó un análisis bibliométrico para describir las ventajas y desventajas del manejo de los sistemas de producción extensivos, semi-intensivos e intensivos en la sustentabilidad de pequeños rumiantes. Existe una preocupación de la sociedad por el impacto ambiental de los sistemas de producción y que se realicen de manera sustentable. Esta tendencia influye en la producción de ovinos, cabras y venado cola blanca, que se desarrollan en sistemas intensivos, semi-extensivos y extensivos. Dada la presión para aumentar el volumen y la eficiencia de la producción, los sistemas intensivos son más adecuados, pero enfrentan mayores problemas ambientales como, la emisión gases de efecto invernadero (GEI) y de bienestar animal. Por otro lado, los sistemas semi-extensivos y extensivos también producen GEI, pero se asocian con mayor bienestar animal y producción más limpia, pero se ven afectados por las variaciones estacionales para la producción de forraje para mantener los niveles de producción.

Background. The soil uses have been present since man domesticated the cultivated plants and, in the process, several changes in the soil’s physicochemical properties have been observed. Most of ...those changes have been detrimental to the soil’s productivity on a sustained basis. Thus, it is important to study and analyze the changes in soil’s physicochemical and hydraulic properties that get affections due to land conversion into different land-use systems. Objective. Assess the effect of different land-use systems on the physical, chemical, and hydrological properties of the soils in Northeast Mexico. Methodology. The study took place in a Chernozem soil in the Municipality of General Terán, Nuevo León, Mexico, and the land-use systems we investigated were: a citrus plantation, a grassland, an agricultural area, and the natural vegetation of the Tamaulipan Thornscrub site (MET) as a control treatment. Four composite soil samples were obtained from each site at two depths of 0-10 cm, and 10-30 cm, the chemical properties analyzed were pH and electrical conductivity (EC), and the physical properties consisted of Bulk density (BD), texture, total porosity (Tp), mechanical resistance to penetration (MRP) and field capacity (FC), permanent wilting point (PWP), available water (AW), initial infiltration (Ii), accumulated infiltration (Ai) and infiltration capacity (Ic). Results. The soil pH showed significant differences with depth (p=0.01), as well as the interaction of land-use depth (p=0.008), while electrical conductivity showed significant differences between land uses systems (p= 0.000); soil texture showed important differences in sand (p=0.003), silt (p=0.003) and clay content (p=0.006). There were significant differences between interaction of land-use soil depth, silt (p=0.003), and clay content (p=0.009). Soil hardness was significantly different between the diverse land-use systems (p=0.000). Concerning hydraulic properties, the water available in the place showed differences in land-use (p=0.001) and interaction land use-depth (p=0.006). Field capacity was also affected by land-use systems (p=0.000), as well as the interaction land use-depth (p=0.02); wilting point showed significant differences under distinct land use systems (p=0000), and in interaction of land use-depth (p=0003). Implications. More studies are needed in the short, medium and long term to monitor changes in physical, chemical, and water properties of soils under different land uses. Such information can be a guide in the proper management of these soils. Conclusion: From this study, it was possible to identify the negative impact that the different land-use systems have on the physical, chemical, and hydraulic properties of the soils under investigation. The hydraulic soil properties are the most affected. The information from this research can help for a better understanding of managing different land-use types in this Chernozem.
