ABSTRACT
We present a new image of the 9.0 GHz radio emission from the extended Chandra Deep Field South. A total of 181 h of integration with the Australia Telescope Compact Array has resulted in a ...0.276 deg2 image with a median sensitivity of ∼20 µJy beam−1 rms, for a synthesized beam of 4.0 × 1.3 arcsec. We present a catalogue of the 9.0 GHz radio sources, identifying 70 source components and 55 individual radio galaxies. Source counts derived from this sample are consistent with those reported in the literature. The observed source counts are also generally consistent with the source counts from simulations of the faint radio population. Using the wealth of multiwavelength data available for this region, we classify the faint 9 GHz population and find that 91 per cent are radio-loud active galactic nuclei (AGNs), 7 per cent are radio-quiet AGNs, and 2 per cent are star-forming galaxies. The 9.0 GHz radio sources were matched to 5.5 and 1.4 GHz sources in the literature and we find a significant fraction of flat or inverted spectrum sources, with 36 per cent of the 9 GHz sources having $\alpha _{5.5\,\mathrm{ GHz}}^{9.0\,\mathrm{ GHz}}$ > −0.3 (for S ∝ να). This flat or inverted population is not well reproduced by current simulations of radio source populations.
The myxomycetes derive their common name (slime molds) from the multinucleate trophic stage (plasmodium) in the life cycle, which typically produces a noticeable amount of slimy materials, some of ...which is normally left behind as a "slime track" as the plasmodium migrates over the surface of a particular substrate. The study reported herein apparently represents the first attempt to investigate the chemical composition and biological activities of slime tracks and the exopolysaccharides (EPS) which cover the surface of the plasmodia of Physarum polycephalum and Physarella oblonga.
Chemical analyses indicated that the slime tracks and samples of the EPS consist largely of carbohydrates, proteins and various sulphate groups. Galactose, glucose and rhamnose are the monomers of the cabohydrates present. The slime tracks of both species and the EPS of Phy. oblonga contained rhamnose, but the EPS of Ph. polycephalum had glucose as the major monomer. In term of biological activities, the slime tracks displayed no antimicrobial activity, low anticancer activity and only moderate antioxidant activity. However, EPSs from both species showed remarkable antimicrobial activities, especially toward Candida albicans (zone of inhibition ≥20 mm). Minimum inhibitory concentrations of this fungus were found to be 2560 μg/mL and 1280 μg/mL for EPS from Phy. oblonga and Ph. polycephalum, respectively. These EPS samples also showed moderate antioxidant activities. However, they both displayed cytotoxicity towards MCF-7 and HepG2 cancer cells. Notably, EPS isolated from the plasmodium of Phy. oblonga inhibited the cell growth of MCF-7 and HepG2 at the half inhibitory concentration (IC50) of 1.22 and 1.11 mg/mL, respectively.
EPS from Ph. polycephalum plasmodium could be a potential source of antifungal compounds, and EPS from Phy. oblonga could be a potential source of anticancer compounds.

Neonatal tetanus continues to occur in many resource-limited settings but there are few data regarding long-term neurological outcome from the disease, especially in settings with critical care ...facilities.
We assessed long-term outcome following neonatal tetanus in infants treated in a pediatric intensive care unit in southern Vietnam. Neurological and neurodevelopmental testing was performed in 17 survivors of neonatal tetanus and 18 control children from the same communities using tools previously validated in Vietnamese children.
The median age of children assessed was 36 months. Eight neonatal tetanus survivors and 9 community control cases aged < 42 months were tested using the Bayley III Scales of Infant and Toddler Development (Bayley III-VN) and 8 neonatal tetanus survivors and 9 community controls aged ≥42 months were tested using the Movement Assessment Battery for Children. No significant reductions in growth indices or neurodevelopmental scores were shown in survivors of neonatal tetanus compared to controls although there was a trend towards lower scores in neonatal tetanus survivors. Neurological examination was normal in all children except for two neonatal tetanus survivors with perceptive deafness and one child with mild gross motor abnormality. Neonatal tetanus survivors who had expienced severe disease (Ablett grade ≥ 3) had lower total Bayley III-VN scores than those with mild disease (15 (IQR 14-18) vs 24 (IQR 19-27), p = 0.05) with a significantly lower cognitive domain score (3 (IQR 2-6) severe disease vs 7 (IQR 7-8) mild disease, p = 0.02).
Neonatal tetanus is associated with long-term sequelae in those with severe disease. In view of these findings, prevention of neonatal tetanus should remain a priority.

Parkinson’s Disease (PD) is a brain disorder that causes uncontrollable movements. According to estimation, roughly ten million individuals worldwide have had or are developing PD. This disorder can ...have severe consequences that affect the patient’s daily life. Therefore, several previous works have worked on PD detection. Automatic Parkinson’s Disease detection in voice recordings can be an innovation compared to other costly methods of ruling out examinations since the nature of this disease is unpredictable and non-curable. Analyzing the collected vocal records will detect essential patterns, and timely recommendations on appropriate treatments will be extremely helpful. This research proposed a machine learning-based approach for classifying healthy people from people with the disease utilizing Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) for feature selection, along with Light Gradient Boosted Machine (LGBM) to optimize the model performance. The proposed method shows highly competitive results and has the ability to be developed further and implemented in a real-world setting.

Dimensions, volume, and mass of agricultural goods are essential physical features to build sizing, grading, and packaging systems. Manual property measurements are time-consuming, costly, and ...labor-intensive due to traditional technologies while various devices need to be installed to adapt process requirements. Furthermore, it is very challenging to accurately measure product with irregular or specific shapes, such as starfruit (Averrhoa carambola). Recently, there have been several research results on estimating features of the irregularly shaped object, they are either get inaccurate results or need repeated captures, computational resources, and time to rebuild the three-dimensional representation of the goods. The starfruit has not been studied completely in this size and weight measurements. This paper focuses on new techniques which exhibit simple installation to generate multiple functions for estimating the dimensions, volume, and mass with high accuracy. In this proposed method, we separated the process into two main phases. In the first phase, a camera is used to capture a top-view image of a starfruit, then image processing and machine vision techniques are applied to process the acquisition image before the process slices numerically the starfruit into several pieces along the longitudinal axis and estimates the physical attributes of each pieces using disc method and conical frustum method. Its volume is the summation of the volume of each partial slice. In the next phase, the density is used to estimate the mass of starfruit since the correlation coefficient (R-squared) between the volume and mass of starfruit is nearly linear with 0.9205. The validated results are highly competitive with accuracy of about 99% for the volume and mass in 300 testing samples.

We present early science results from the First Large Absorption Survey in H i (FLASH), a spectroscopically blind survey for 21-cm absorption lines in cold hydrogen (H i) gas at cosmological ...distances using the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP). We have searched for H i absorption towards 1253 radio sources in the GAMA 23 field, covering redshifts between z = 0.34 and 0.79 over a sky area of approximately 50 deg2. In a purely blind search, we did not obtain any detections of 21-cm absorbers above our reliability threshold. Assuming a fiducial value for the H i spin temperature of Tspin = 100 K and source covering fraction cf = 1, the total comoving absorption path-length sensitive to all Damped Lyman α Absorbers (DLAs; NH i ≥ 2 × 1020 cm−2) is ΔX = 6.6 ± 0.3 (Δz = 3.7 ± 0.2) and super-DLAs (NH i ≥ 2 × 1021 cm−2) is ΔX = 111 ± 6 (Δz= 63 ± 3). We estimate upper limits on the H i column density frequency distribution function that are consistent with measurements from prior surveys for redshifted optical DLAs, and nearby 21-cm emission and absorption. By cross-matching our sample of radio sources with optical spectroscopic identifications of galaxies in the GAMA 23 field, we were able to detect 21-cm absorption at z = 0.3562 towards NVSS J224500−343030, with a column density of $N_{\rm H\,\small{I}} = (1.2 \pm 0.1) \times 10^{20}\, (T_{\rm spin}/100\, \mathrm{K})$ cm−2. The absorber is associated with GAMA J22450.05−343031.7, a massive early-type galaxy at an impact parameter of 17 kpc with respect to the radio source and which may contain a massive (MH i ≳ 3 × 109 M⊙) gas disc. Such gas-rich early types are rare, but have been detected in the nearby Universe.

The redox chemistry and the related surface phase behavior of Safranine (SAF) and Janus Green B (JGB) have been studied by means of cyclic voltammetry in combination with in situ Scanning Tunneling Microscopy using HOPG (Highly Oriented Pyrolytic Graphite) and single crystalline Cu(1
0
0) as model substrates, both revealing different widths of the accessible potential windows. JGB and SAF serve as prototypical heterocyclic suppressor/leveler additives that are used for the metallization of 3D-TSVs (3D Through Silicon Vias) following a classical “leveling” concept. SAF can be considered as the reductive decomposition product of JGB that is formed at the copper/electrolyte interface upon electroplating.
Both additives reveal a pronounced pH-dependent redox-chemistry with redox-transitions lying close to or even beyond the anodic limit of the copper potential window. Affected by these redox-processes are in particular the aromatic cores of those heterocycles that can be (quasi)reversibly reduced by a two electron transfer process within the potential window of copper. Therefore we identify the reduced form of those dyes as the active components for the suppressing/leveling effect in copper plating.
STM data clearly shows a dye surface phase behavior that is crucially determined by its potential-dependent redox-chemistry. This will be exemplarily discussed for the SAF dye.
On chloride-modified Cu(1
0
0) mono-reduced SAF forms a structurally well-defined monolayer of cationic stacking polymers. However, this coupled anion/cation layer reveals only minor suppressing capabilities with respect to the copper dissolution and deposition processes. Complete reduction of the aromatic heterocycle finally leads to the 3D precipitation of hydrophobic reaction products. 3D clusters of this SAF precipitate are discussed as the active structural motif for the suppressing effect of these dyes.

To design safe and electrochemically stable electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries, this study describes the synthesis and the utilization of new deep eutectic solvents (DESs) based on the mixture of ...2,2,2-trifluoroacetamide (TFA) with a lithium salt (LiTFSI, lithium bis(trifluoromethane)sulfonylimide). These prepared DESs were characterized in terms of thermal properties, ionic conductivity, viscosity, and electrochemical properties. Based on the appearance of the product and DSC measurements, it appears that this system is liquid at room temperature for LiTFSI mole fraction ranging from 0.25 to 0.5. At χLiTFSI = 0.25, DESs exhibited favorable electrolyte properties, such as thermal stability (up to 148 °C), relatively low viscosity (42.2 mPa.s at 30 °C), high ionic conductivity (1.5 mS.cm–1 at 30 °C), and quite large electrochemical stability window up to 4.9–5.3 V. With these interesting properties, selected DES was diluted with slight amount of ethylene carbonate (EC). Different amounts of EC (x = 0–30 %wt) were used to form hybrid electrolytes for battery testing with high voltage LiMn2O4 cathode and Li anode. The addition of the EC solvent into DES expectedly aims at enhancing the battery cycling performance at room temperature due to reducing the viscosity. Preliminary results tests clearly show that LiTFSI-based DES can be successfully introduced as an electrolyte in the lithium-ion batteries cell with a LiMn2O4 cathode material. Among all of the studied electrolytes, DES (LiTFSI: TFA = 4:1 + 10 %wt EC) is the most promising. The EC-based system exhibited a good specific capacity of 102 mAh.g–1 at C/10 with the theoretical capacity of 148 mAh.g–1 and a good cycling behavior maintaining at 84% after 50 cycles.

Chronic GvHD-related keratoconjunctivitis sicca (cGvHD-related KCS) can significantly alter the quality of life of patients after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. The aim of this ...work was to assess the efficacy and tolerability of scleral lenses to treat severe cGvHD-related KCS. In this retrospective, multicenter study, we included 60 consecutive patients diagnosed with cGvHD-related KCS and fitted with scleral lenses. Patients were evaluated at baseline and at 2 months with the following tests: the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) to assess quality of life, the Oxford score to grade corneal damage and the logarithm of minimal angle of resolution (Log MAR) scale to determine visual acuity. We observed improvement in quality of life in 58 patients (97%). All parameters improved at 2 months. We observed significant differences at 2 months compared with baseline for the mean OSDI (86 versus 30, respectively, P<0.001), the mean Oxford score (3.2 versus 1.3, respectively, P<0.001) as well as visual acuity (Log MAR of 0.33 versus 0.10, respectively, P<0.001). Treatment with scleral lenses was discontinued in only 5 patients (8%) with a median follow-up of 20.5 months (range: 2-125 months). Scleral lenses were very efficient and well tolerated in patients with severe cGvHD-related KCS.

The intrinsic thermal (free–free) and non-thermal (synchrotron) emission components that comprise the radio continuum of galaxies represent unique, dust-free measures of star formation rates (SFR). ...Such high SFR galaxies will dominate the deepest current and future radio surveys. We disentangle the thermal and non-thermal emission components of the radio continuum of six ultraluminous infrared galaxies (L
FIR > 1012.5 L⊙) at redshifts of 0.2 ≤ z ≤ 0.5 and 22 IR selected galaxies. Radio data over a wide frequency range (0.8 < ν < 10 GHz) are fitted with a star-forming galaxy model comprising of thermal and non-thermal components. The luminosities of both radio continuum components are strongly correlated to the 60 μm luminosity across many orders of magnitude (consistent with the far-IR to radio correlation). We demonstrate that the spectral index of the radio continuum spectral energy distribution is a useful proxy for the thermal fraction. We also find that there is an increase in mean and scatter of the thermal fraction with FIR to radio luminosity ratio which could be influenced by different time-scales of the thermal and non-thermal emission mechanisms.
