Stethorus gilvifrons Mulsant, native to the Mediterranean region, is often observed feeding on
Tetranychus turkestani Ugarov & Nycolsky and
Eutetranychus orientalis Klein on different host crops. ...Fecundity of
S. gilvifrons on
T. turkestani and
E. orientalis was evaluated by placing newly emerged pairs on leaf discs infested with different developmental stages of
T. turkestani or
E. orientalis. They were maintained at 30 °C and changed daily until death of the female. Adult female mean longevity was 58 days on
T. turkestani and 45 days on
E. orientalis. Mean fecundity was 175 eggs per female on
T. turkestani and 318 eggs per female on
E. orientalis. No significant differences were detected in the duration of life stages between
T. turkestani and
E. orientalis. Mean preimaginal mortality was 20% on
T. turkestani and 24% on
E. orientalis, with no statistical differences. Mean generation time (
T) was 26.76 and 22.83 days on
T. turkestani and
E. orientalis, respectively. Net reproductive rate (
R
o) was significantly greater on
E. orientalis (154.08) than on
T. turkestani (97.6), but the estimate of intrinsic rate of increase (
r
m) was not statistically different (0.221 and 0.171, respectively). Our results suggest that both
T. turkestani and
E. orientalis are essential prey for
S. gilvifrons development and reproduction and that
E. orientalis is slightly more suitable than
T. turkestani.

MicroBooNE is a neutrino experiment located in the Booster Neutrino Beamline (BNB) at Fermilab, which collected data from 2015 to 2021. MicroBooNE’s liquid argon time projection chamber (LArTPC) is ...accompanied by a photon detection system consisting of 32 photomultiplier tubes used to measure the argon scintillation light and determine the timing of neutrino interactions. Analysis techniques combining light signals and reconstructed tracks are applied to achieve a neutrino interaction time resolution of $\mathscr{O}$(1 ns) The result obtained allows MicroBooNE to access the nanosecond beam structure of the BNB for the first time. The timing resolution achieved will enable significant enhancement of cosmic background rejection for all neutrino analyses. Furthermore, the ns timing resolution opens new avenues to search for long-lived-particles such as heavy neutral leptons in MicroBooNE, as well as in future large LArTPC experiments, namely the SBN program and DUNE.

In this paper we address the issue of recognizing Farsi handwritten words. Two types of gradient features are extracted from a sliding vertical stripe which sweeps across a word image. These are ...directional and intensity gradient features. The feature vector extracted from each stripe is then coded using the Self Organizing Map (SOM). In this method each word is modeled using the discrete Hidden Markov Model (HMM). To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, FARSA dataset has been used. The experimental results show that the proposed system, applying directional gradient features, has achieved the recognition rate of 69.07% and outperformed all other existing methods.
The stage specific functional response of the acarophagous ladybird beetle Stethorus gilvifrons Mulsant to varying densities of citrus brown mite Eutetranychus orientalis (Klein) eggs was examined in ...a simplified castor bean leaf arena under laboratory conditions. All stages of S. gilvifrons were individually isolated for 24 hours with different prey densities at 30ºC and a photoperiod of 14: 10 (L: D). The number of prey consumed by the predator was checked after 24 hours. Each larval stage of S. gilvifrons showed a type II functional response when 88 eggs out of 120 eggs were consumed by the fourth-instar larva. Based on the random predator equation, the estimated attack rates of S. gilvifrons were 0.065, 0.089, 0.143, 0.125 and 0.046 per hour while the estimated handling times stood at 0.141, 0.166, 0.150, 0.134 and 0.082 per hour for the first, second, third and fourth instar as well as the adult female respectively. The species S. gilvifrons showed to be an effective predator on E. orientalis under controlled conditions. The results suggest that the simultaneous use of the both fourth-instar larvae and adult females of the acarophagous ladybird beetle could increase the rate of predation in the field.
We present a novel methodology to search for intranuclearneutron-antineutron transition (n⟶n̅) followed by n̅-nucleon annihilation within an 40Ar nucleus, usingthe MicroBooNE liquid argon time ...projection chamber (LArTPC)detector. A discovery of n⟶n̅ transition or a newbest limit on the lifetime of this process would either constitutephysics beyond the Standard Model or greatly constrain theories ofbaryogenesis, respectively. The approach presented in this papermakes use of deep learning methods to select n⟶n̅ events based on their unique features and differentiate them fromcosmogenic backgrounds. The achieved signal and backgroundefficiencies are (70.22 ± 6.04)% and (0.0020 ± 0.0003)%,respectively. A demonstration of a search is performed with a dataset corresponding to an exposure of3.32 ×1026 neutron-years, and where the background rateis constrained through direct measurement, assuming the presence ofa negligible signal. With this approach, no excess of events overthe background prediction is observed, setting a demonstrative lowerbound on the n⟶n̅ lifetime in 40Ar ofτm ≳ 1.1×1026 years, and on the freen⟶n̅ transition time ofτn⟶n̅ ≳ 2.6×105 s,each at the 90% confidence level. This analysis represents afirst-ever proof-of-principle demonstration of the ability to searchfor this rare process in LArTPCs with high efficiency and lowbackground.
Essential oils extracted from different plants are extensively used in perfume, beverage, and food industries and are reported to exhibit antimicrobial activities against a variety of fungi.
...belonging to the
family is a rare and endemic medicinal plant species in Iran, with a strong and pleasant odor. The leaves of this plant have been used for many years as an antiseptic carminative agent for the treatment of stomachache (especially in infants) and dysmenorrhea.
Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) analysis was performed to determine the main constituents of the essential oil extracted from the aerial parts of
. Also, the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) were determined, using serial dilution method.
Based on the GC/MS analysis, 31 compounds representing 95.36% of the essential oil, extracted from the aerial parts of the plant, were identified, among which linalool (63.40%) and camphor (27.48%) were recognized as the major constituents. The total phenolic content was 42.74 GAE (mg)/DW (g). The hydro-distilled essential oil from the aerial part of the plant displayed potential antifungal activities against all the tested pathogenic fungal species (i.e.,
). Based on the inhibition zone (29 mm) and MIC value (0.015 μl/ml), all the tested strains were sensitive to
essential oil.
The present results support the traditional and possible use of
essential oil in food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries.
