A measurement of the beam-spin asymmetry in the azimuthal distribution of pions produced in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering off protons is presented. The measurement was performed using the ...HERMES spectrometer with a hydrogen gas target and the longitudinally polarized 27.6 GeV positron beam of HERA. The sinusoidal amplitude of the dependence of the asymmetry on the angle ϕ of the hadron production plane around the virtual photon direction relative to the lepton scattering plane was measured for π+, π− and π0 mesons. The dependence of this amplitude on the Bjorken scaling variable and on the pion fractional energy and transverse momentum is presented. The results are compared to theoretical model calculations.

The zero angle production of light nuclei has been studied in CC-interactions at beam energy 20.5 GeV/n on accelerator U-70. The measurements were performed with employing of the beamline no. 22 as ...spectrometer of secondary particles with verying its rigidity from 10 to 70 GeV/c. We observed secondary protons and deuterons with momenta above kinematic limit of NN-interactions. The measured dependence of forward yields on momentum are compared with the model predictions in the framework of Geant4. The models more or less correctly give positions of maxima of the distributions and their general qualitative dependence on the momentum. But in the quantitative predictions of the yields there are significant differences with the experiment which grow with increase of atomic mass number A.

Properties of discharges in a 2 mm glass Resistive Plate Chamber were investigated using the light amplifier for optical pictures and the digital scope for waveforms of induced pick-up signals. ...Multiple discharges were observed for different tetrafluoroethane-based gas mixtures both in ‘avalanche’ and ‘streamer’ modes. Multiple discharges substantially increase the spatial size of the initial discharge caused by a through-going particle ionisation. Average spatial characteristics and typical optical pictures are presented. Space–time relationships for the streamer do not show any prominent dependence.

(ProQuest: ... denotes formulae and/or non-USASCII text omitted; see image) Hard exclusive electroproduction of ... mesons is studied with the HERMES spectrometer at the DESY laboratory by scattering ...27.6 GeV positron and electron beams off a transversely polarized hydrogen target. The amplitudes of five azimuthal modulations of the single-spin asymmetry of the cross section with respect to the transverse proton polarization are measured. They are determined in the entire kinematic region as well as for two bins in photon virtuality and momentum transfer to the nucleon. Also, a separation of asymmetry amplitudes into longitudinal and transverse components is done. These results are compared to a phenomenological model that includes the pion pole contribution. Within this model, the data favor a positive ... transition form factor.

reactions were obtained for the first time. The experiment in which this was done was ...performed at the SPIN setup (Institute for High Energy Physics, Protvino) in a beam of 50-GeV protons interacting with C, Al, Cu, and W nuclei. Positively charged particles were detected at a laboratory angle of 35° and in the transverse-momentum range between 0.6 and 3.7 GeV/

. A strong dependence of the particle-production cross section on the atomic number was observed. A comparison with the results of calculations based on the HIJING and UrQMD models was performed in the subcumulative region.
