Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) have recently emerged as a type of uniformly and periodically atom‐distributed precursor and efficient self‐sacrificial template to fabricate hierarchical ...porous‐carbon‐related nanostructured functional materials. For the first time, a Cu‐based MOF, i.e., Cu‐NPMOF is used, whose linkers contain nitrogen and phosphorus heteroatoms, as a single precursor and template to prepare novel Cu3P nanoparticles (NPs) coated by a N,P‐codoped carbon shell that is extended to a hierarchical porous carbon matrix with identical uniform N and P doping (termed Cu3P@NPPC) as an electrocatalyst. Cu3P@NPPC demonstrates outstanding activity for both the hydrogen evolution and oxygen reduction reaction, representing the first example of a Cu3P‐based bifunctional catalyst for energy‐conversion reactions. The high performances are ascribed to the high specific surface area, the synergistic effects of the Cu3P NPs with intrinsic activity, the protection of the carbon shell, and the hierarchical porous carbon matrix doped by multiheteroatoms. This strategy of using a diverse MOF as a structural and compositional material to create a new multifunctional composite/hybrid may expand the opportunities to explore highly efficient and robust non‐noble‐metal catalysts for energy‐conversion reactions.
Cu3P nanoparticles coated by a N,P‐codoped carbon shell (hierarchical porous carbon matrix) are prepared using a novel Cu‐based metal–organic framework (MOF) containing dual linkers as a template and single precursor. Cytoplasmic localization and possession of two deacetylase domains and a ubiquitin-binding domain make histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) a unique histone deacetylase. HDAC6 interacts with a number of ...proteins in the cytoplasm. Some of these proteins can be deacetylated by HDAC6 deacetylase activity. Others can affect HDAC6 functions by modulating its catalytic activity or ubiquitin-binding capability. Over the last decade, HDAC6 has been shown to play important roles in the aggresome-autophagy pathway, which selectively targets on protein aggregates or damaged organelles for their accumulation and clearance in cells. HDAC6-interacting partners are integral components in this pathway with regard to their regulatory roles through interaction with HDAC6. The aggresome-autophagy pathway appears to be an attractive therapeutic target for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases as accumulation of protein aggregates are hallmarks in these diseases. In the current review, I discuss the molecular details of how HDAC6 and its interacting partners regulate each individual step in the aggresome-autophagy pathway and also provide perspectives of how HDAC6 can be targeted in treating neurodegenerative diseases.

A 2 (predictability: high and low) × 2 (controllability: high and low) between-subjects experiment using a random general public sample was designed to examine the variance in publics’ affective responses, their strategies of coping with crises, and their acceptance of different organizational crisis responses, as a function of publics’ appraisal of crisis predictability and controllability. Differential influences of the cognitive appraisals were found on publics’ negative emotional responses (i.e., anger, sadness, and fright) as well as their coping strategy and organizational crisis response preferences.

Applying biodegradable chelating agents to assist in phytoremediation is a promising method to increase the remove efficiency of metal pollutants from contaminated soils. The effects of biodegradable ...chelating agents on improving the phytoremediation capacity in uranium (U) and cadmium (Cd) contaminated soil was investigated using sunflowers, which were grown in pots containing soil with U and Cd added at 15 mg/kg. After 2 months of growth, citric acid (CA), oxalic acid (OA) and ethylenediamine disuccinate (EDDS) at various concentrations (0, 2.5, 5.0 and 7.5 mmol/kg) were applied. The results showed that plant biomass decreased by 12.12% for shoot and 15.74% for root under U and Cd combined stress. Meanwhile, chelating agent treatments, especially with EDDS, enhanced U and Cd stress in plants by decreasing biomass, inhibiting photosynthesis, and increasing malondialdehyde and H2O2 levels. The U uptake of plants after CA addition was significantly greater than that after OA and EDDS addition. Nevertheless, EDDS addition has better effects on Cd uptake than CA and OA addition. U and Cd remove efficiencies reached the maximum following the application of 5.0 mmol/kg CA and 5.0 mmol/kg EDDS, which were 177.48% and 181.51% higher than that of the control, respectively. Furthermore, the bioavailable U content in soils treated with CA were higher than that in soils treated with EDDS, whereas bioavailable Cd content significantly increased due to EDDS addition. These results suggest that biodegradable chelating agents have significant effects on improving the U and Cd phytoremediation potential of sunflowers.
•EDDS enhanced the adverse effects of U and Cd in sunflower.•CA and EDDS effectively increased the uptake and translocation of U and Cd.•CA significantly promoted U bioavailability in soil-plant system. EDDS has better effects on mobilizing Cd in the soil.•CA and EDDS improved the phytoremediation efficiency of sunflower.

The oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are crucial reactions in energy conversion and storage systems including fuel cells, metal–air batteries, and electrolyzers. ...Developing low‐cost, high‐efficiency, and durable non‐noble bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysts is the key to the commercialization of these devices. Here, based on an in‐depth understanding of ORR/OER reaction mechanisms, recent advances in the development of non‐noble electrocatalysts for ORR/OER are reviewed. In particular, rational design for enhancing the activity and stability and scalable synthesis toward the large‐scale production of bifunctional electrocatalysts are highlighted. Prospects and future challenges in the field of oxygen electrocatalysis are presented.
Low‐cost and efficient bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysts are key to the commercialization of reversible fuel cells, metal–air batteries and electrolyzers. Herein, recent advances in the development of non‐noble bifunctional oxygen reduction reaction/oxygen evolution reaction electrocatalysts toward large‐scale production are presented, together with a discussion of the future challenges and prospects in this field.

At the end of December 2019, a novel coronavirus, 2019-nCoV, caused an outbreak of pneumonia spreading from Wuhan, Hubei province, to the whole country of China, which has posed great threats to ...public health and attracted enormous attention around the world. To date, there are no clinically approved vaccines or antiviral drugs available for these human coronavirus infections. Intensive research on the novel emerging human infectious coronaviruses is urgently needed to elucidate their route of transmission and pathogenic mechanisms, and to identify potential drug targets, which would promote the development of effective preventive and therapeutic countermeasures. Herein, we describe the epidemic and etiological characteristics of 2019-nCoV, discuss its essential biological features, including tropism and receptor usage, summarize approaches for disease prevention and treatment, and speculate on the transmission route of 2019-nCoV.

Given that SARS-CoV-2 is already being used in the scientific literature, a name change at this stage would cause confusion in the scientific community.

Caffeine has been reported to increase gastrointestinal motility and change intestinal microbiota. Constipation may be caused by colonic motor dysfunction and colonic microbiomeis disturbances. In ...this study, we aimed to explore the association between caffeine intake and constipation.
This was a cross-sectional study based on the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES). Caffeine intake was assessed using 24-h dietary recall method, and constipation was defined based on stool consistency or stool frequency. Logistic regression analysis was used to assess the association between caffeine intake and constipation, and results were expressed as odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (95%CI). Subgroup analysis was performed based on age.
A total of 13,816 participants were finally included for analysis. After adjusting potential confounders, high intake of caffeine was found to be associated with the low odds of constipation (Q3: OR = 0.60, 95%CI: 0.49-0.74; Q4: OR = 0.77, 95%CI: 0.59-0.99; Q5: OR = 0.72, 95%CI: 0.56-0.92). The similar association was found in young people and middle-age people (P < 0.05).
High caffeine intake was associated with the low odds of constipation. Our finding indicated that individuals should develop consciousness and habit of consuming caffeinated foods and drinks to prevent and relief the constipation.

Natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (NKTCL) is a malignant proliferation of CD56(+) and cytoCD3(+) lymphocytes with aggressive clinical course, which is prevalent in Asian and South American populations. ...The molecular pathogenesis of NKTCL has largely remained elusive. We identified somatic gene mutations in 25 people with NKTCL by whole-exome sequencing and confirmed them in an extended validation group of 80 people by targeted sequencing. Recurrent mutations were most frequently located in the RNA helicase gene DDX3X (21/105 subjects, 20.0%), tumor suppressors (TP53 and MGA), JAK-STAT-pathway molecules (STAT3 and STAT5B) and epigenetic modifiers (MLL2, ARID1A, EP300 and ASXL3). As compared to wild-type protein, DDX3X mutants exhibited decreased RNA-unwinding activity, loss of suppressive effects on cell-cycle progression in NK cells and transcriptional activation of NF-κB and MAPK pathways. Clinically, patients with DDX3X mutations presented a poor prognosis. Our work thus contributes to the understanding of the disease mechanism of NKTCL.
