This paper investigates religiosity amongst young people in regards to two different dimensions: personal religiosity and the development of one's own religiosity. The sample consisted of 117 ...students from three generations who had selected the optional course entitled "Spirituality and social engagement" as offered by the Philosophical University of Jesuits. A structured questionnaire containing 126 questions was used as a method (Coric, 1999). In order to investigate the two dimensions mentioned above, 24 variables were used for that purpose. The group of examinees was more or less homogenous. Thus, statistically significant differences regarding the manner in which religiosity was acquired, as well as social background of the examinees were examined. The results had shown that a belief in God is present in a high percentage of the examinees, that they occasionally practice their faith; however, they also find the development of their own religiosity unsatisfactory. The manner in which they acquired their religiosity proved to be statistically significant in almost all areas, while social background was shown to be significant only in some areas. Young people, who were brought up in faith within their families since childhood, had the most firmly rooted religious values and they nourish some form of church practice, whilst the newly converted practice their own personal religiosity more and they want to deepen it further. When it comes to both dimensions, they are seekers 'on a path'. Adapted from the source document.
This article examines violence on people with intellectual disabilities. Since this problematic issue is almost unknown in Croatian literature circles, the article's introduction gives us an insight ...into foreign research that deals with various forms of violence towards people with intellectual disabilities as well as lawful entries of violence towards the latter. The goal of this paper was to determine the level of violence targeted towards people with intellectual disabilities, what type of violence they experience the most and who are the most frequent perpetrators of such violence. The research was conducted via a semi-structured questionnaire made especially for this investigation; a total of 59 people were interviewed throughout Zagreb and the Medimurje region. The results showed that mental violence was most frequent, physical violence over people with intellectual disabilities followed, whilst there were no victims of sexual violence. The most frequent perpetrators were friends and parents. One third of the examinees had never discussed the violence. The characteristics of the respective examinees were quite different when considering factors such as age and level of disability. These findings follow the already existing research of violence on people with intellectual disabilities with limitations connected to the appropriate sample, and they refer to a more systematic dealing of this problem. Background: Suspicious bone lesions are very common and often need a pathohistological verification. Surgical (open) and percutaneous image guided biopsies can be used to get a sample for pathology ...analysis. As the barriers of lesion compartment shouldn’t be crossed due to risk of dissemination, transarticular approach is not advised.
Case study: We present a case of 57-year-old female patient with lung cancer history and left knee pain. Lytic lesion in lateral femoral epycondile with fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake was confirmed by positron emission tomography with computed tomography (PET/CT). Surgical biopsy was performed and pathohistological analysis showed no tumor cells. A month later a computed tomography (CT)-guided percutaneous bone biopsy with CT arthrography was performed and pathohistological analysis confirmed metastatic lesion.
Conclusion: CT-guided percutaneous bone biopsy is a safe, effective and minimally invasive procedure. CT arthrography can add some additional information for anatomical positioning in order to avoid transarticular approach in reaching the targeted lesion.
As most of the soybean in Europe is grown in rainfed conditions, climate aberrations are causing significant crop yield variability. To stabilise the yield and shift the sources of supply to ...European-grown soybean, stable and adaptable cultivars must be created by breeding. To better understand the mechanism of drought tolerance in specific germplasm, more knowledge needs to be acquired by research. Therefore, this research aimed to examine the physiological insights on soybean response to drought exposed plants (50% available water holding capacity) by monitoring the relative water content (RWC), lipid peroxidation (TBARS), pigments (Chl a and b), proteins and photosynthetic efficiency during five days in the pod stage. The decrease of RWC in both tested genotypes due to the drought effect, coupled with TBARS increase, indicates lipid peroxidation, which resulted in photosynthetic pigment and protein changes. Most of the chlorophyll a fluorescence parameters suggested plants initiated a defence mechanism to water deficiency, i.e. there was an initial adjustment on the first and second day of drought exposed plants, followed by drastic changes in electron flow in photosystem II (PSII). According to the correlation analysis, the effect of drought was prevalent for Chl b, Chl a/b, relative variable fluorescence at 30 ms (VI), the density of reaction centres (RC/CS0), absorption, trapping, electron transport and dissipation flux per reaction centre (ABS/RC, TR0/RC, ET0/RC and DI0/RC), plastoquinone at quinone A binding niche reducing RCs per PSII antenna chlorophylls (RC/ABS) and performance index (PIABS), meaning these parameters are good indicators of drought stress, that can facilitate the selection of genotypes and increase the efficiency of breeding programmes. Among tested materials, Korana had lower sensitivity to drought and smaller reduction of yield components than OS-211, indicating a better response of its defence mechanism to oxidative stress caused by lack of water. The methods tested and confirmed in this research could be used for screening large numbers of genotypes to determine in the soybean breeding programs aiming to select superior genotypes adaptable to weather changes.
•Lack of water caused a decrease in leaf water content, lipid peroxidation, changes in photosynthetic pigments and proteins.•Chlorophyll a fluorescence is a reliable method for physiological soybean screening under water deficit.•Tested parameters are good indicators of drought stress that can increase the efficiency of breeding programmes.

Hepatocyte nuclear factor 1 alpha (HNF1A), hepatocyte nuclear factor 4 alpha (HNF4A), and forkhead box protein A2 (FOXA2) are key transcription factors that regulate a complex gene network in the ...liver, creating a regulatory transcriptional loop. The Encode and ChIP-Atlas databases identify the recognition sites of these transcription factors in many glycosyltransferase genes. Our in silico analysis of HNF1A, HNF4A, and FOXA2 binding to the ten candidate glyco-genes studied in this work confirms a significant enrichment of these transcription factors specifically in the liver. Our previous studies identified HNF1A as a master regulator of fucosylation, glycan branching, and galactosylation of plasma glycoproteins. Here, we aimed to functionally validate the role of the three transcription factors on downstream glyco-gene transcriptional expression and the possible effect on glycan phenotype. We used the state-of-the-art clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats/dead Cas9 (CRISPR/dCas9) molecular tool for the downregulation of the HNF1A, HNF4A, and FOXA2 genes in HepG2 cells—a human liver cancer cell line. The results show that the downregulation of all three genes individually and in pairs affects the transcriptional activity of many glyco-genes, although downregulation of glyco-genes was not always followed by an unambiguous change in the corresponding glycan structures. The effect is better seen as an overall change in the total HepG2 N-glycome, primarily due to the extension of biantennary glycans. We propose an alternative way to evaluate the N-glycome composition via estimating the overall complexity of the glycome by quantifying the number of monomers in each glycan structure. We also propose a model showing feedback loops with the mutual activation of HNF1A–FOXA2 and HNF4A–FOXA2 affecting glyco-genes and protein glycosylation in HepG2 cells.

Mitigating the effects of changing climate with adaptable cultivars while reducing the input burden of additional selection criteria is becoming a priority, especially as water shortage is limiting ...soybean production in Europe. To evaluate the functionality of the photosynthetic apparatus in drought, chlorophyll a (Chl a) fluorescence was measured in 16 elite soybean lines in drought and conditions with sufficient water supply in V2 (second node), R1 (beginning bloom), R4 (full pod), R5 (beginning seed) and R6 (full seed) stages. Developmental stage was a significant source of variation for all parameters, and PItotal was chosen as the most sensitive parameter in detecting the average drought effect. Genotypes G5, G9, and G10 had superior overall functioning of the photosynthetic apparatus in drought, while the photosynthetic apparatus of G12 and G16 was the least functional. The drought effect was determined to be the most relevant in R1, R4 and R6. G14 had highest PItotal in drought conditions in R1 and R4, while G9 had the highest drought-stressed PItotal in R6. G7 had the lowest drought-stressed PItotal in R1, G4 and G6 had the lowest in R4, and G8 had the lowest in R6. PItotal proved useful in breeding for abiotic stress tolerance, especially for excluding the material with the poorest photosynthetic apparatus function, which increases the efficiency of the selection process when a large number of genotypes needs to be screened. However, genotypes with superior photosynthetic apparatus functioning should be further tested in yield trials to confirm their drought tolerance and value for use in drought conditions.
The relationship between air pollen quantity and the sensitization of allergic patients is crucial for both the diagnosis and treatment of allergic diseases. Weather conditions influence the ...distribution of allergenic pollen and increases in pollen concentration may negatively affect the health of allergic patients. The aim of this study was to analyze the implementation of allergen immunotherapy with regard to air pollen concentration.
: Here we examined the relationship between
air pollen concentration and the usage of
allergen immunotherapy in Serbia. Examination covered the period from 2015 to 2018. Measurement of airborne pollen concentration was performed with Lanzoni volumetric pollen traps. The evidence of the usage of sublingual allergen immunotherapy (SLIT) was gathered from patients with documented sensitization to specific pollen. Results: During this period tree pollens were represented with 58% ± 21% of all measured air pollen species, while
pollen represented 15% ± 8% of all tree pollens.
pollination peaked in April. Allergen immunotherapy to
in Serbia is entirely conducted as sublingual immunotherapy and represents 47.1% ± 1.4% of issued tree pollen SLIT. The use of pollen SLIT increased by 68% from 2015 to 2018, with an even greater increase in usage recorded for
SLIT-80%.
This analysis shows a clear causative relationship between pollination and the type/prevalence of applied allergen immunotherapy. Information about the flowering seasons of allergenic plants is very important for people who suffer from allergy, for clinical allergologists, as well as for governing authorities. The presented data is of practical importance to the proper timing of immunotherapy initiation and of importance for urban landscaping. The obtained data can be the starting point for the instatement of a thorough epidemiological study and the inclusion of Serbia on the pollen map of Europe.
Objective: Albuminuria is an established marker of cardiovascular (CV) risk which has a role in pathogenesis of cardio-renal diseases, and it is questioned whether it should also be a therapy target. ...In all relevant guidelines it is listed as a routine laboratory method for all patients with hypertension and increased CV risk regardless they have diabetes or not. Croatian Hypertension League successfully negotiated with Croatian National Health Insurance company, and since last February determination of albumin-to-creatinine ratio - ACR is reimbursed for all patients with hypertension, and not only hospital specialist, but also family physicians (FP) are allowed to use this method. We announced this important novelty through our newsletters, website and media. The aim was to analyze how this method was implemented by family physicians in regular work. Design and method: A digital structured questionnaire was prepared and placed at the website of the Croatian Hypertension League. Using our regular monthly newsletter, we have invited FP, members of the League to participate in this survey. So far, 135 FP participated (83.7% women) from all parts of Croatia. Results: All physicians believe that determination of ACR is very important. Before this survey, 34% have not heard about this possibility, and from those who were informed 31% have not yet started. The most important reason was incapability of local laboratory (51%) followed by the answer that they have not had proper patient for these analyses (17.8%). When asked whether their laboratory provide them with values of estimated glomerular filtration rate, 51% answered negatively. Conclusions: Croatian Hypertension League made a big step forward enabling determination of ACR for all hypertensive patients by all physicians. However, there are still several gaps which should be eliminated. One is increasing awareness of FP and encouraging them to determine ACR more frequently, and the other one is to convince medical biochemistries to allow regular determination of ACR in all laboratories, but also of reporting eGFR. Survey, like this are very important and could be helpful in reaching final success, and we will use results for evidence-based negotiation with Croatian Biochemistry Chamber.
