Dual language education has been present in numerous institutions across the Northern Great Plain region of Hungary. Educational centres across the region have been running dual language programmes ...in secondary grammar schools and vocational schools for decades. As regional centre and traditional educational hub, Debrecen is also represented by a number of schools offering international programmes. Although recent socioeconomic and education policy changes have forced schools for constant renewal, bilingualism in educational programmes managed to remain popular, partly due to the achievements of foreign language subject teaching. Through the alignment of subject-specific content and the development of language competence, this form of education effectively contributes to the improvement of students’ language skills, shapes their mindset and expands their further education and increases their market value as potential workforce. This study will explore the role and impact of foreign language Geography teaching across the secondary schools of the Northern Great Plain region through the lens of teaching and educational research, by discussing some of the relevant regional findings of a broader PhD dissertation (including school visits, final exam results and a recent nationwide teacher survey). Research findings prove that Geography has been a popular subject choice to be taught in foreign languages: it has been present in the majority of the 15 dual language secondary schools of the region, it has been playing an important role in vocational school programmes and it has been chosen as final exam subject by nearly 1,000 candidates.

In Hungary, Geography final examinations can be taken in ten foreign languages too. This linguistic diversity is one of the less-known, rarely mentioned values of our public education system, ...allowing students of bilingual and nationality secondary school programmes to take certain subject exams – like Geography – in foreign languages. Since the introduction of the two-tier Matura examination system, the subject has been one of the most popular choices in foreign language too as such examinations have been held in almost all exam periods. However, changes in the subject’s prestige and the Matura itself are also clearly reflected. The study provides a detailed analysis of intermediate and advanced Geography final exams by language use and discusses factors influencing the spatial distribution and temporal changes of exam numbers. This study is justified not only by the two-tier system’s more than fifteen years of history but by the recent changes of the national curriculum, exam structure and requirements as well.
In this paper, we propose an image pyramid-based noisy energy function evaluation method for the local search technique simulated annealing. The method is primarily designed for the optimization of ...image segmentation algorithms, and it maintains solution quality with significantly reduced time requirement. The strategy to select the proper image pyramid levels during the search is theoretically determined via adapting results regarding evaluation in simulated annealing based on imprecise measurements. As a demonstrative application, we perform parameter-optimization of a segmentation ensemble dedicated to the extraction of bone structures from CT images.

This paper is concerned with the application and adaptation of traditional models of family therapy as developed in Western societies, to the understanding and therapy of families in a society where ...the sociopolitical structures are changing rapidly. References were found in the literature only in connection with certain ethnic groups (Gray and Cosgrove 1985; McGoldrick-Pearce 1982), religious fellowships (Aradi 1988), and sociopolitical contexts (Auerswald 1983; Elkaim 1982). The authors began to deal with these phenomena several years ago. Our first publication examined differences in religious, social, and class relations within the family and the way in which these factors affect family roles and their implementation (Füredi et al. 1989). Subsequent events directed our interest to the effects of political changes on family relationships and what the strategy of the family therapist could be in this situation.

Examines the case of a 30-yr-old woman undergoing family therapy with her husband, parents, and in-laws in Hungary. Therapy sessions after the S's admission to psychiatric inpatient treatment and ...suicide attempts uncovered family tensions that developed from differences in the families' social positions, religions, and views on proper upbringing. Aspects of Hungarian society (structure and social mobility) that relate to the families' conflicts are discussed. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2020 APA, all rights reserved)
