We obtained 3T brain MR imaging, including resting-state functional MR imaging, diffusion tensor imaging, and 3D T1-weighted imaging from children with AS (
= 14) and age- and sex-matched controls (
= 28). The brains of patients with AS were analyzed by measuring FC, white matter microstructural analysis, cortical thickness, and brain volumes; these were compared with brains of controls.
Interregional FC analysis revealed significantly reduced intra- and interhemispheric FC, especially in the basal ganglia and thalamus, in patients with AS. Significant reductions in fractional anisotropy were found in the corpus callosum, cingulum, posterior limb of the internal capsules, and arcuate fasciculus in patients with AS. Quantitative structural analysis also showed gray matter volume loss of the basal ganglia and diffuse WM volume reduction in AS compared with the control group.
This integrated quantitative MR imaging analysis demonstrated poor functional and structural connectivity, as well as brain volume reduction, in children with AS, which may explain the motor and language dysfunction observed in this well-characterized neurobehavioral phenotype.
It is observed that the magnitude of the toroidal rotation speed is reduced by the central electron cyclotron resonance heating (ECRH) regardless of the direction of the toroidal rotation. The ...magnetohydrodynamics activities generally appear with the rotation change due to ECRH. It is shown that the internal kink mode is induced by the central ECRH and breaks the toroidal symmetry. When the magnetohydrodynamics activities are present, the toroidal plasma viscosity is not negligible. The observed effects of ECRH on the toroidal plasma rotation are explained by the neoclassical toroidal viscosity in this Letter. It is found that the neoclassical toroidal viscosity torque caused by the internal kink mode damps the toroidal rotation.

Methods
This was a 1-year, open-label, multicenter, phase III randomized trial of Growtropin

-II in Korean patients with ISS. In total, 70 prepubertal subjects (39 males, 31 females) between 4 and 12 years of age were included in the study. All patients were naive to GH treatment.
Results
Annual height velocity was significantly higher in the treatment group (10.68 ± 1.95 cm/year) than the control group (5.72 ± 1.72,

< 0.001). Increases in height and weight standard deviation scores (SDSs) at 26 weeks were 0.63 ± 0.16 and 0.64 ± 0.46, respectively, for the treatment group, and 0.06 ± 0.15 and 0.06 ± 0.28, respectively, for the control group (

< 0.001). Serum insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1) and insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3) increased significantly in the treatment group at week 26 compared to baseline. Conclusions
One-year GH treatment for prepubertal children with ISS demonstrated increased annualized velocity, height and weight SDSs, and IGF-1 and IGFBP-3 levels, with a favorable safety profile. Further evaluations are needed to determine the optimal dose, final adult height, and long-term effects of ISS treatment.

AbstractContinuous awareness of the evolution of the structural condition of bridge structures is of great value for bridge owners, as it allows them to make informed decisions regarding the ...maintenance and management of these public facilities. Structural condition assessment via monitoring has gained in popularity in recent years, because it can provide structural engineers with plentiful information on the structural condition through various sensors. A key issue for successful application of monitoring technologies for condition assessment is how to realize meaningful interpretations of monitoring data. In this study, an approach to structural condition assessment of in-service bridge deck making use of long-term monitoring data of strain response is proposed and applied to the instrumented Tsing Ma Bridge. The proposed method consists of structural assessment at two levels: (1) deck truss component level and (2) deck cross-section level. As long-term monitoring data of dynamic strain under the in-service condition physically result from a combination of live loads and environmental variations, a wavelet multiresolution decomposition method is first applied to extract live-load effects from the raw measurement data. Based on the extracted data, stress-response histories are derived, and the statistical characteristics (sample means and sample SDs) of peak stresses are explored for stress-level assessment of deck truss components. Dynamic internal forces (axial force, shear force, and moment) of the monitored deck sections are subsequently evaluated by synthesizing the internal forces of the corresponding truss members. Then, internal force–level assessment of the deck sections is carried out for various loading conditions such as monsoon, typhoon, and with and without railway traffic.
Meta-analysis shows that up to 26% of adenomas could be missed during colonoscopy. We investigated whether the use of artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted real-time detection could provide new ...insights into mechanisms underlying missed lesions during colonoscopy.
A validated real-time deep-learning AI model for the detection of colonic polyps was first tested in videos of tandem colonoscopy of the proximal colon for missed lesions. The real-time AI model was then prospectively validated in a total colonoscopy in which the endoscopist was blinded to real-time AI findings. Segmental unblinding of the AI findings were provided, and the colonic segment was then re-examined when missed lesions were detected by AI but not the endoscopist. All polyps were removed for histologic examination as the criterion standard.
Sixty-five videos of tandem examination of the proximal colon were reviewed by AI. AI detected 79.1% (19/24) of missed proximal adenomas in the video of the first-pass examination. In 52 prospective colonoscopies, real-time AI detection detected at least 1 missed adenoma in 14 patients (26.9%) and increased the total number of adenomas detected by 23.6%. Multivariable analysis showed that a missed adenoma(s) was more likely when there were multiple polyps (adjusted odds ratio, 1.05; 95% confidence interval, 1.02-1.09; P < .0001) or colonoscopy was performed by less-experienced endoscopists (adjusted odds ratio, 1.30; 95% confidence interval, 1.05-1.62; P = .02).
Our findings provide new insights on the prominent role of human factors, including inexperience and distraction, on missed colonic lesions. With the use of real-time AI assistance, up to 80% of missed adenomas could be prevented. (Clinical trial registration number: NCT04227795.)

The propagation dynamics of resonant magnetic perturbation fields in KSTAR H-mode plasmas with injection of small edge perturbations produced by a supersonic molecular beam injection is reported for ...the first time. The results show that the perturbation field first excites a plasma response on the q=3 magnetic surface and then propagates inward to the q=2 surface with a radially averaged propagation velocity of resonant magnetic perturbations field equal to 32.5 m/ s. As a result, the perturbation field brakes the toroidal rotation on the q=3 surface first causing a momentum transport perturbation that propagates both inward and outward. A higher density fluctuation level is observed. The propagation velocity of the resonant magnetic perturbations field is larger than the radial propagation velocity of the perturbation in the toroidal rotation.

The effects of capsaicin (CAP), a transient receptor potential vanilloid subtype 1 (TRPV1) agonist, were determined on nigrostriatal dopamine (DA) neurons in the ...1-methyl-4-phenyl-1,2,3,6-tetrahydropyridine (MPTP) mouse model of Parkinson's disease (PD). The results showed that TRPV1 activation by CAP rescued nigrostriatal DA neurons, enhanced striatal DA functions and improved behavioral recovery in MPTP-treated mice. CAP neuroprotection was associated with reduced expression of proinflammatory cytokines (tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-1β) and reactive oxygen species/reactive nitrogen species from activated microglia-derived NADPH oxidase, inducible nitric oxide synthase or reactive astrocyte-derived myeloidperoxidase. These beneficial effects of CAP were reversed by treatment with the TRPV1 antagonists capsazepine and iodo-resiniferatoxin, indicating TRPV1 involvement. This study demonstrates that TRPV1 activation by CAP protects nigrostriatal DA neurons via inhibition of glial activation-mediated oxidative stress and neuroinflammation in the MPTP mouse model of PD. These results suggest that CAP and its analogs may be beneficial therapeutic agents for the treatment of PD and other neurodegenerative disorders that are associated with neuroinflammation and glial activation-derived oxidative damage.

l-lactide) (PS–PLLA), with PLLA hexagonal cylinder (HC) morphology has been synthesized in this study. Well-oriented, perpendicular PLLA ...cylinders of PS–PLLA thin films were efficiently achieved by spin coating using appropriate solvents regardless of the use of substrates. After hydrolysis of PLLA, well-oriented HC nanochannel arrays over large area in addition to uniform surface with controlled thickness and domain size were obtained; providing a simple and efficient path to prepare nanopatterned templates for applications. The induced orientation of PS–PLLA microdomains was strongly dependent upon the evaporation rate of solvent and its solubility between constituted blocks. The origins for the formed perpendicular HC morphology were systematically studied. The primary concern of controlled morphology for nanopatterning is to develop ordered microphase-separated morphology by considering the time scale for segregation, namely segregation strength during solvent evaporation. The induced orientation is attributed to the permeation discrepancy between phase-separated microdomains. The perpendicular morphology is initiated from the air surface, and formed in order to create an optimized condition (i.e. the fastest path) for solvent evaporation whereas parallel morphology may impede the evaporation of solvent molecules. Following the nucleation of microphase separation, the perpendicular morphology can be kinetically induced by solvent evaporation.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are often known to have a therapeutic potential in the cell-mediated repair for fatal or incurable diseases. In this study, canine umbilical cord MSCs (cUC-MSCs) were ...isolated from umbilical cord matrix (n = 3) and subjected to proliferative culture for 5 consecutive passages. The cells at each passage were characterized for multipotent MSC properties such as proliferation kinetics, expression patterns of MSC surface markers and self-renewal associated markers, and chondrogenic differentiation. In results, the proliferation of the cells as determined by the cumulative population doubling level was observed at its peak on passage 3 and stopped after passage 5, whereas cell doubling time dramatically increased after passage 4. Expression of MSC surface markers (CD44, CD54, CD61, CD80, CD90 and Flk-1), molecule (HMGA2) and pluripotent markers (sox2, nanog) associated with self-renewal was negatively correlated with the number of passages. However, MSC surface marker (CD105) and pluripotent marker (Oct3/4) decreased with increasing the number of subpassage. cUC-MSCs at passage 1 to 5 underwent chondrogenesis under specific culture conditions, but percentage of chondrogenic differentiation decreased with increasing the number of subpassage. Collectively, the present study suggested that sequential subpassage could affect multipotent properties of cUC-MSCs and needs to be addressed before clinical applications.
We present new constraints on the dark matter-induced annual modulation signal using 1.7 years of COSINE-100 data with a total exposure of 97.7 kg yr. The COSINE-100 experiment, consisting of 106 kg ...of NaI(Tl) target material, is designed to carry out a model-independent test of DAMA/LIBRA's claim of WIMP discovery by searching for the same annual modulation signal using the same NaI(Tl) target. The crystal data show a 2.7 cpd/kg/keV background rate on average in the 2-6 keV energy region of interest. Using a χ-squared minimization method we observe best fit values for modulation amplitude and phase of 0.0092±0.0067 cpd/kg/keV and 127.2±45.9 d, respectively.
