We aimed to explore the associations between common genetic risk variants with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) risk in Russian women and to assess their utility in the identification of GDM ...cases.
We conducted a case-control study including 1,142 pregnant women (688 GDM cases and 454 controls) enrolled at Almazov National Medical Research Centre. The International Association of Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Groups criteria were used to diagnose GDM. A total of 11 single- nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), including those in
(rs10762264),
(rs1799884),
(rs10830963 and rs1387153),
(rs7903146 and rs12255372),
(rs5219),
(rs4402960),
(rs1801278),
(rs9939609), and
(rs7754840) were genotyped using Taqman assays. A logistic regression model was used to calculate odds ratios (ORs) and their confidence intervals (CIs). A simple-count genetic risk score (GRS) was calculated using 6 SNPs. The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (c-statistic) was calculated for the logistic regression model predicting the risk of GDM using clinical covariates, SNPs that had shown a significant association with GDM in our study, GRS, and their combinations.
Two variants in
(rs1387153 and rs10830963) demonstrated a significant association with an increased risk of GDM. The association remained significant after adjustment for age, pre-gestational BMI, arterial hypertension, GDM in history, impaired glucose tolerance, polycystic ovary syndrome, family history of diabetes, and parity (P = 0.001 and P < 0.001, respectively). After being conditioned by each other, the effect of rs1387153 on GDM predisposition weakened while the effect of rs10830963 remained significant (P = 0.004). The risk of GDM was predicted by clinical variables (c-statistic 0.712, 95 % CI: 0.675 - 0.749), and the accuracy of prediction was modestly improved by adding GRS to the model (0.719, 95 % CI 0.682 - 0.755), and more by adding only rs10830963 (0.729, 95 % CI 0.693 - 0.764).
Among 11 SNPs associated with T2D and/or GDM in other populations, we confirmed significant association with GDM for two variants in
in Russian women. However, these variants showed limited value in the identification of GDM cases.
Straw tubes with resistive cathode and cathode readout were successfully manufactured and tested. The straw tubes were manufactured by ultrasonic welding technique. The resistive cathode electrode ...was made of diamond like carbon (DLC). The possibility of cathode signal readout from external strip electrodes was successfully demonstrated. The event coordinate along the straw can be accurately determined by applying center of gravity method to the individual strip signals.

This article provides data from the current Russian (National guidelines for the management of patients with diseases of the brachiocephalic arteries of 2013; Recommendations “Blockage and stenosis ...of the carotid artery” of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, 2016) and foreign (European Society of Cardiology / European Society of Vascular Surgeons for Diagnosis and Treatment Peripheral Artery Diseases 2017; Recommendations for myocardial revascularization of the European Society of Cardiology and the European Association of Cardio-Thoracic Surgeons 2018) recommendations regarding the choice of a revascularization strategy for combined coronary and carotid artery disease. Conclusions are drawn about the unresolved issue. A literature review of the largest series of Russian articles by one institution devoted to this topic was carried out. Hospital and long-term outcomes have been demonstrated, as well as predictors of complications for various revascularization strategies. The stages of creation and the results of approbation of a new computer program for risk stratifi cation, which makes it possible to determine the mathematical probability of the development of unfavorable cardiovascular events during the implementation of various surgical tactics, taking into account the individual characteristics of the patient. A conclusion was made about the effectiveness of this development.
Introduction.
In the cases of neurosurgery failure in acromegaly treatment, drug therapy with somatostatin analogues (SSA) octreotide or lanreotide is indicated. The effectiveness of SSA is limited ...by the presence of resistance, there is an opinion that in some cases it can be overcome by replacing one drug with another.
Aim.
Own experience analysis of transferring acromegaly patients from therapy with long-acting octreotide to lanreotide autogel 120 mg.
Materials
and
methods.
The case histories of acromegaly patients who were recommended to replace long-acting octreotide therapy with lanreotide therapy 120 mg were analyzed. GH and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) dynamics was evaluated at least 6 months after the replacement of the drug. The target value for GH was considered to be less than 2.5 micrograms/l, for IGF-1 – an excess of no more than 30% of the upper normal limit.
Results.
24 patients were transferred to lanreotide therapy 120 mg. Of the 19 patients with insufficient reduction of GH and IGF-1 on prolonged-acting octreotide therapy at a dose of 40 mg every 28 days (OCT40) the prescription of lanreotide 120 mg every 28 days (LAN120) led to the target values of both GH and IGF-1 in 4 (21%) cases. These patients had no more than a twofold excess of IGF-1, and the level of GH was less than 2.5 mcg/l on the background of OCT 40 therapy. In 6 (32%) patients, IGF-1 levels normalized or decreased, but GH remained outside the target values. In 9 (47%) cases, the replacement of the SSA did not lead to a significant positive dynamics in the levels of GH and IGF-1. The effects of lanreotide therapy 120 mg in another five patients initially treated with octreotide 20 mg are also described.
Conclusions.
Replacement of OCT4 with LAN120 may be effective in some patients with acromegaly. A slight increase in the level of IGF-1 together with the target values of GH before replacing the SSA may be the predictor of success.
Type 2 diabetes prevalence is increasing dramatically worldwide. Conservative therapy doesn’t bring stable effect and is often insufficient, not to mention the lack of prospects to cure the disease. ...Fortunately, accumulating evidence points towards the notion that a complete remission of type 2 diabetes is feasible following a choice of surgical interventions. The efficacy of bariatric surgery in particular for achieving glycemic control has highlighted surgery as a candidate curative intervention for type 2 diabetes. When compared to intensive medical therapy and lifestyle intervention, metabolic surgery has shown superiority in achieving reducing number of medications and metabolic factors improvement, which translates in long-term benefits on diabetes progression and complications. Understanding factors that predict diabetes remission can help to select patients who will benefit most from bariatric surgery and to choose the most effective type of operation. This literature review analyzes studies of the most significant clinical and biochemical predictors of remission of type 2 diabetes mellitus after bariatric interventions, as well as highlights well-known mathematical prediction models.
We report the results of first studies of the small resistive Well radiation detector (https://indico.inp.nsk.su/event/20/session/9/contribution/205/material/poster/0.pdf) based on the Well Electron ...Multiplier with the DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) anode. The DLC film covers the printed circuit mesh surrounding a group of holes. The prototype built with this technology provides fast, 200 ns, evacuation of electrons from the resistive layer with surface resistivity of 25 MOhm/square. As shown with 55Fe X-ray source, the detector with the mesh surrounding each hole withstands 0.5 millions discharges at the gas gain of 32,000 without damage to materials and functionality.
We study signals induced in the resistive Well MPGD constructed with the single DLC layer evaporated on top of a printed circuit mesh which was designed with various configurations surrounding either ...single hole or group of holes. As shown, signals are induced on the output readout elements (strip/pad/pixel) by both electrons and positive ions drifting in the blind well-like hole. An additional electron component is clearly seen in signals and related to the charge dispersed along the resistive layer. We present for the first time, that the ion tail induced on the readout elements can be suppressed to the level below 1% by proper designing the detector.
In article the comparison of traditional moldboard tillage and soil-protective efficiency of agrotechnologies is given in light gray forest soil. For more objective assessment indicators of soil ...fertility were defined in sowing of grain and a row crops. It is established that long (27 years) use of technologies which are based on moldboardless tillage in a crop rotation even on options without fertilization provided increase in maintenance of the general humus (mainly at the expense of fraction of the detritus), improvement of some agrophysical and water–physical indicators. Thus, the coefficient of structure degree increased by 16.4%, the water resistance of units increased by 7.8-8.1%, soil hardness decreased by 9.1-9.4 kg/cm2, but soil density did not change significantly. The reserve of productive moisture in a layer of 0-30 cm at the time of crops of a winter wheat was 7.0 mm higher, and before harvesting – by 4.4 mm in comparison to an indicator on plowing. Before planting of potatoes the increase made 6.1 mm, and before harvesting – 3.4 mm in comparison to control. The productivity of cultures did not concede observations at moldboardless tillage to plowing in recent years. However, the air-dry mass of weeds increased significantly in crops of wheat (by 20.9%), and potatoes (by 26.4%).
The MEG experiment makes use of one of the world's most intense low energy muon beams, in order to search for the lepton flavour violating process Formula omitted. We determined the residual beam ...polarization at the thin stopping target, by measuring the asymmetry of the angular distribution of Michel decay positrons as a function of energy. The initial muon beam polarization at the production is predicted to be Formula omitted by the Standard Model (SM) with massless neutrinos. We estimated our residual muon polarization to be Formula omitted at the stopping target, which is consistent with the SM predictions when the depolarizing effects occurring during the muon production, propagation and moderation in the target are taken into account. The knowledge of beam polarization is of fundamental importance in order to model the background of our Formula omitted search induced by the muon radiative decay: Formula omitted.
