Peptic ulcer disease (PUD) is a chronic disease based on recurrent gastric or duodenal ulcers. Association analysis of common polymorphisms of the cytokines genes IL1B (rs1143634), IL1RN ...(rs71941886), IL8 (rs4073), IL10 (rs1800872), and TNFA (rs1800629) was conducted in 254 patients with gastric ulcer or duodenal ulcer and in 277 unrelated healthy individuals from the Bashkortostan Republic. Associations of the rs1143634*C allele and the C/C genotype of the IL1B gene with PUD in ethnic Bashkirs have been revealed. The frequency of the rs4073*A/A genotype of the IL8 gene was significantly higher in the control group as compared to patients infected with H. pylori. Our results confirm the significant role of rs1143634 of the IL1B gene in PUD development.

Peptic ulcer disease is a chronic disease of the gastrointestinal tract, mainly manifesting itself in the formation of the fairly persistent ulcer defect of the mucous membrane of the stomach and/or ...duodenum. Association analysis of common polymorphisms of matrix metalloproteinases genes MMP-1 (rs1799750, rs494379), MMP-2 (rs2285052), MMP-3 (rs3025058), MMP-9 (rs3918242, rs17576), and MMP-12 (rs2276109) and their tissue inhibitors TIMP-2 (rs8179090) and TIMP-3 (rs9619311) was carried out in 353 patients with a gastric ulcer or duodenal ulcer and in 325 unrelated healthy individuals from the Republic of Bashkortostan. Associations of polymorphic variants rs1799750 and rs494379 of gene MMP-1, rs3025058 of gene MMP-3, rs3918242 and rs17576 of gene MMP-9, and rs9619311 of gene TIMP-3 with the risk of peptic ulcer disease in Russians and Tatars were revealed.

The authors present some variants of the peptic ulcer course, with pathogenesis of the pathology being taken into account. Attention has been paid to the role of the central nervous system and of the ...vegetative nervous system as well as to psychosomatic mechanisms of the given pathology development.

The molecular structure, conformational equilibria, vibrational spectra and molecular force field of 1-methyl-2-(2′-pyridyl)benzimidazole have been determined at the HF, MP2 and DFT/(B3LYP, BVP86) ...levels with 6-31+G(d,p) and TZVP basis sets. The torsional potentials for the rotation around the C1–C2 pivotal bond have been calculated at the B3LYP/6-31+G(d,p) and BVP86/TZVP levels of theory for gaseous and aqueous 1-methyl-2-(2′-pyridyl)benzimidazole. FT-Raman (3500–10 cm
−1
) and FT-IR (3900–400 cm
−1
) spectra of solid 1-methyl-2-(2′-pyridyl)benzimidazole have been recorded and interpreted on a base of calculated potential energy distribution. The results of the experimental and theoretical study of vibrational spectra and molecular structure of 1-methyl 2-(2′-pyridyl)benzimidazole are considered in comparison with similar data for 2-(2′-pyridyl)benzimidazole.

Etiopathogenetic ulcer is of particular interest because of its great role in hereditary predisposition to formation of this pathology. The authors detail not only the risk factors but the features ...of the neuro-psychic sphere, the clinical picture, and endoscopic features in their interrelation with genetic predisposition to the disease.
Disturbance of trace element balance increases the risk of cerebrovascular disease and, above all, ischemic stroke (IS). A comparative analysis of clinical and demographic parameters and trace ...element composition of hair was performed in the group of 30 ischemic stroke patients with arterial hypertension (AH) and 30 stroke patients without hypertension (mean age 55±7 years). The stroke patients with hypertension were characterized by the elevated body mass index (28.5±4.1 kg/m2, AI, 26.0±2.9 kg/m2, p=0.006), higher incidence of coronary heart disease (p=0.04). Alcohol consumption more than 3 drinks a week was associated with a 5-fold increase of the risk of stroke with hypertension (95% CI 1.0-27, p=0.035). The results revealed a number of statistically significant differences in trace element profile in the studied groups of patients: deficits of essential magnesium, manganese, cobalt, copper, zinc, a statistically significant increase in sodium levels, toxic and conditionally toxic trace elements (cadmium, mercury, bismuth, barium, etc.). One of the probable factors that lead to the accumulation of toxic trace elements in stroke patients is the increased consumption of alcohol including that of substandard quality. The data obtained also show the feasibility of implementing screening programs to assess micronutrient status (including trace elements) for early detection of pathological abnormalities in the elemental homeostasis that might lead to an increased risk of ischemic stroke and hypertension.
A study is performed of IR absorption and Raman spectra of methyl 6-methoxy-2,3,4,9-tetrahydro-1H-1,4-ethanocarbazole-3-carboxylate. Optimized structures and the harmonic force fields of stable ...conformers are calculated using the density functional theory (the B3LYP, M062X, and BVP86 functionals combined with basis sets of different completeness). A detailed explanation of the spectra is proposed based on calculations, and the characteristic frequencies of the most stable forms of a given compound are identified. The theoretical spectra are analyzed relative to experimental data.
