▶ An approach to analyze the thematic evolution of a research field has been proposed. ▶ Strategic diagrams, themes and thematic networks show the conceptual structure. ▶ Thematic areas show the ...conceptual evolution. ▶ Quantitative and qualitative measures, as h-index, help users to measure the performance of the detected themes and thematic areas.
This paper presents an approach to analyze the thematic evolution of a given research field. This approach combines performance analysis and science mapping for detecting and visualizing conceptual subdomains (particular themes or general thematic areas). It allows us to quantify and visualize the thematic evolution of a given research field. To do this, co-word analysis is used in a longitudinal framework in order to detect the different themes treated by the research field across the given time period. The performance analysis uses different bibliometric measures, including the h-index, with the purpose of measuring the impact of both the detected themes and thematic areas. The presented approach includes a visualization method for showing the thematic evolution of the studied field.
Then, as an example, the thematic evolution of the Fuzzy Sets Theory field is analyzed using the two most important journals in the topic:
Fuzzy Sets and Systems and
IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems.

Science mapping aims to build bibliometric maps that describe how specific disciplines, scientific domains, or research fields are conceptually, intellectually, and socially structured. Different ...techniques and software tools have been proposed to carry out science mapping analysis. The aim of this article is to review, analyze, and compare some of these software tools, taking into account aspects such as the bibliometric techniques available and the different kinds of analysis.

This article presents a new open‐source software tool, SciMAT, which performs science mapping analysis within a longitudinal framework. It provides different modules that help the analyst to carry ...out all the steps of the science mapping workflow. In addition, SciMAT presents three key features that are remarkable in respect to other science mapping software tools: (a) a powerful preprocessing module to clean the raw bibliographical data, (b) the use of bibliometric measures to study the impact of each studied element, and (c) a wizard to configure the analysis.

Nowadays, the increasing popularity of Internet has led to an abundant amount of information created and delivered over electronic media. It causes the information access by the users is a complex ...activity and they need tools to assist them to obtain the required information.
Recommender systems are tools whose objective is to evaluate and filter the great amount of information available in a specific scope to assist the users in their information access processes. Another obstacle is the great variety of representations of information, specially when the users take part in the process, so we need more flexibility in the information processing. The
fuzzy linguistic modeling allows to represent and handle flexible information. Similar problems are appearing in other frameworks, such as digital academic libraries, research offices, business contacts, etc. We focus on information access processes in technology transfer offices. The aim of this paper is to develop a recommender system for research resources based on fuzzy linguistic modeling. The system helps researchers and environment companies allowing them to obtain automatically information about research resources (calls or projects) in their interest areas. It is designed using some filtering tools and a particular fuzzy linguistic modeling, called multi-granular fuzzy linguistic modeling, which is useful when we have to assess different qualitative concepts. The system is working in the University of Granada and experimental results show that it is feasible and effective.

•Avocado fruit and its by-products are rich sources of nutrients and phytochemicals.•Avocado by-products exert anti-proliferative and anti-inflammatory activities.•Avocado seeds ...phytochemical improves carbohydrate and lipid metabolism.•Starch and dietary fiber from avocado by-products could be used as biomaterials.•Avocado phytochemicals could be used in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries.
The increased demand for avocado, and therefore production and consumption, generate large quantities of by-products such as seeds, peel, and defatted pulp, which account for approximately 30% of fruit weight, and which are commonly discarded and wasted. The present review focuses on various compounds present in avocado fruit and its by-products, with particular interest to those that can be potentially used in different industrial forms, such as nutraceuticals, to add to or to formulate functional foods, among other uses. Main molecular families of bioactive compounds present in avocado include phenolic compounds (such as hydroxycinnamic acids, hydroxybenzoic acids, flavonoids and proanthocyanins), acetogenins, phytosterols, carotenoids and alkaloids. Types, contents, and possible functions of these bioactive compounds are described from a chemical, biological, and functional approach. The use of avocado and its by-products requires using processing methods that allow highest yield with the least amount of unusable residues, while also preserving the integrity of bioactive compounds of interest. Avocado cultivar, fruit development, ripening stage, and processing methods are some of the main factors that influence the type and amount of extractable molecules. The phytochemical diversity of avocado fruit and its by-products make them potential sources of nutraceutical compounds, from which functional foods can be obtained, as well as other applications in food, health, pigment, and material sectors, among others.

The tourism industry has been promoting its products and services based on the reviews that people often write on travel websites like TripAdvisor.com, Booking.com and other platforms like these. ...These reviews have a profound effect on the decision making process when evaluating which places to visit, such as which restaurants to book, etc.
In this contribution is presented a cloud based software tool for the massive analysis of this social media data (TripAd-visor.com). The main characteristics of the tool developed are: i) the ability to aggregate data obtained from social media; ii) the possibility of carrying out combined analyses of both people and comments; iii) the ability to detect the sense (positive, negative or neutral) in which the comments rotate, quantifying the degree to which they are positive or negative, as well as predicting behaviour patterns from this information; and iv) the ease of doing everything in the same application (data downloading, pre-processing, analysis and visualisation).
As a test and validation case, more than 33.500 revisions written in English on restaurants in the Province of Granada (Spain) were analysed.

Since Internet was born most people can access fully free to a lot sources of information. Every day a lot of web pages are created and new content is uploaded and shared. Never in the history the ...humans has been more informed but also uninformed due the huge amount of information that can be access. When we are looking for something in any search engine the results are too many for reading and filtering one by one. Recommended Systems (RS) was created to help us to discriminate and filter these information according to ours preferences.
This contribution analyses the RS of the official agency of publications in Spain (BOE), which is known as "Mi BOE". The way this RS works was analysed, and all the meta-data of the published documents were analysed in order to know the coverage of the system. The results of our analysis show that more than 89% of the documents cannot be recommended, because they are not well described at the documentary level, some of their key meta-data are empty. So, this contribution proposes a method to label documents automatically based on Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA). The results are that using this approach the system could recommend (at a theoretical point of view) more than twice of documents that it now does, 11% vs 23% after applied this approach.

In (Computing with Words, Wiley, New York, 2001, p. 251; Soft Comput. 6 (2002) 320; Fuzzy Logic and The Internet, Physica-Verlag, Springer, Wurzburg, Berlin, 2003) we presented different fuzzy ...linguistic multi-agent models for helping users in their information gathering processes on the Web. In this paper we describe a new fuzzy linguistic multi-agent model that incorporates two information filtering techniques in its structure: a content-based filtering agent and a collaborative filtering agent. Both elements are introduced to increase the information filtering possibilities of multi-agent system on the Web and, in such a way, to improve its retrieval issues.

In this paper, we extend the study of the intelligent transportation system (ITS) topic evolution presented by Li et al. To do so, we apply an approach that combines both H-index-based performance ...analysis and science mapping to detect, visualize, and evaluate conceptual ITS themes and ITS thematic areas published by the journal IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transport Systems during the decade (2000-2009). The primary consequence of this is the detection of three important thematic areas: COMPUTER-VISION and TRAFFIC-FLOW, which are related to research in ITS applied to vehicles, and AIRCRAFT-TRAFFIC, which is related to research in ITS applied to aircraft/airport.
