The combination of rigid acridine donor and 1,8‐naphthalimide acceptor has afforded two orange–red emitters of NAI‐DMAC and NAI‐DPAC with high rigidity in molecular structure and strongly pretwisted ...charge transfer state. Endowed with high photoluminescence quantum yields (ΦPL), distinct thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) characteristics, and preferentially horizontal emitting dipole orientations, these emitters afford record‐high orange–red TADF organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs) with external quantum efficiencies of up to 21–29.2%, significantly surpassing all previously reported orange‐to‐red TADF OLEDs. Notably, the influence of microcavity effect is verified to support the record‐high efficiency. This finding relaxes the usually stringent material requirements for effective TADF emitters by comprising smaller radiative transition rates and less than ideal ΦPLs.
Orange–red organic light‐emitting diodes with external quantum efficiencies of up to 29.2% are achieved using excellent thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emission of 1,8‐naphthalimide‐acridine hybrid. The relatively high photoluminescence quantum yield and horizontally oriented emitting dipoles of the TADF emitters combined with the influence of microcavity effects are verified to support the record‐high efficiency.

The development of red thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) emitters having excellent optoelectronic properties and satisfactory electroluminescence efficiency is full of challenges due to ...strict molecular design principles. Two red TADF molecules, 3‐(9,9‐dimethylacridin‐10(9H)‐yl)acenaphtho1,2‐bquinoxaline‐9,10‐dicarbonitrile and 3‐(2,7‐dimethyl‐10H‐spiroacridine‐9,9′‐fluoren‐10‐yl)acenaphtho1,2‐bquinoxaline‐9,10‐dicarbonitrile, are developed by adopting a donor–acceptor molecular architecture bearing an electron‐accepting acenaphtho1,2‐bquinoxaline‐9,10‐dicarbonitrile (ANQDC) moiety and a 9,9‐dimethyl‐9,10‐dihydroacridine or 2,7‐dimethyl‐10H‐spiroacridine‐9,9′‐fluorene electron donor. The combined effects of rigid and planar D/A moieties and highly steric hindrance between D and A groups endow both molecules with high rigidity to suppress nonradiative decay processes, resulting in high photoluminescence quantum efficiencies (ΦPLs) of up to 95%. Attributed to the linear and planar acceptor motif and rod‐like molecular configuration, both emitters achieve high horizontal ratios of emitting dipole orientation of ≈80%. The organic light‐emitting diodes (OLEDs) based on both emitters exhibit red emissions peaking at ≈615 nm and successfully afford ultrahigh electroluminescence performance with an external quantum efficiency of nearly 28% and a power efficiency of above 50 lm W−1, on par with the state‐of‐the‐art device efficiency for red TADF OLEDs. This presents a feasible design strategy for excellent TADF emitters simultaneously possessing high ΦPLs and horizontally aligned emitting dipoles.
An ultrahigh‐efficiency red thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) OLED with an external quantum efficiency of nearly 28% and a power efficiency of exceeding 50 lm W−1 is realized. The OLEDs incorporate excellent red TADF emitters, simultaneously exhibiting 95% photoluminescence quantum efficiency and preferentially horizontal emitting dipole orientation.

Water and other small molecules frequently coordinate within metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs). These coordinated molecules may actively engage in mass transfer, moving together with the transport ...molecules, but this phenomenon has yet to be examined. In this study, we explore a unique water transfer mechanism in UTSA‐280, where an incoming water molecule can displace a coordinated molecule for mass transfer. We refer to this process as the “knock‐off” mechanism. Despite UTSA‐280 possessing one‐dimensional channels, the knock‐off transport enables water movement along the other two axes, effectively simulating a pseudo‐three‐dimensional mass transfer. Even with a relatively narrow pore width, the knock‐off mechanism enables a high water flux in the UTSA‐280 membrane. The knock‐off mechanism also renders UTSA‐280 superior water/ethanol diffusion selectivity for pervaporation. To validate this unique mechanism, we conducted 1H and 2H solid‐state NMR on UTSA‐280 after the adsorption of deuterated water. We also derived potential energy diagrams from the density functional theory to gain atomic‐level insight into the knock‐off and the direct‐hopping mechanisms. The simulation findings reveal that the energy barrier of the knock‐off mechanism is marginally lower than the direct‐hopping pathway, implying its potential role in enhancing water diffusion in UTSA‐280.

Arsenic, a metal ubiquitously distributed in the environment, remains an important global health threat. Drinking arsenic-contaminated water is the major route of human exposure. Exposure to arsenic ...contributes to several malignancies, in the integumentary, respiratory, hepatobiliary, and urinary systems. Cutaneous lesions are important manifestations after long-term arsenic exposure. Arsenical skin cancers usually herald the development of other internal cancers, making the arsenic-induced skin carcinogenesis a good model to investigate the progression of chemical carcinogenesis. In fact, only a portion of arsenic-exposed humans eventually develop malignancies, likely attributed to the arsenic-impaired immunity in susceptible individuals. Currently, the exact pathophysiology of arsenic-induced carcinogenesis remains elusive, although increased reactive oxidative species, aberrant immune regulations, and chromosome abnormalities with uncontrolled cell growth might be involved. This review discusses how arsenic induces carcinogenesis, and how the dysregulated innate and adaptive immunities in systemic circulation and in the target organs contribute to arsenic carcinogenesis. These findings offer evidence for illustrating the mechanism of arsenic-related immune dysregulation in the progression of carcinogenesis, and this may help explain the nature of multiple and recurrent clinical lesions in arsenic-induced skin cancers.
Background and Aims
Early recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after surgical resection compromises patient survival. Timely detection of HCC recurrence and its clonality is required to ...implement salvage therapies appropriately. This study examined the feasibility of virus‐host chimera DNA (vh‐DNA), generated from junctions of hepatitis B virus (HBV) integration in the HCC chromosome, as a circulating biomarker for this clinical setting.
Approach and Results
HBV integration in 50 patients with HBV‐related HCC was determined by the Hybridization capture‐based next‐generation sequencing (NGS) platform. For individual HCC, the vh‐DNA was quantified by specific droplet digital PCR (ddPCR) assay in plasma samples collected before and 2 months after surgery. HBV integrations were identified in 44 out of 50 patients with HBV‐related HCC. Tumor‐specific ddPCR was developed to measure the corresponding vh‐DNA copy number in baseline plasma from each patient immediately before surgery. vh‐DNA was detected in 43 patients (97.7%), and the levels correlated with the tumor sizes (detection limit at 1.5 cm). Among the plasma collected at 2 months after surgery, 10 cases (23.3%) still contained the same signature vh‐DNA detected at baseline, indicating the presence of residual tumor cells. Nine of them (90%) experienced HCC recurrence within 1 year, supporting vh‐DNA as an independent risk factor in predicting early recurrence. Analysis of circulating vh‐DNA at recurrence further helped identify the clonal origin. A total of 81.8% of recurrences came from original HCC clones sharing the same plasma vh‐DNA, whereas 18.2% were from de novo HCC.
Conclusions
vh‐DNA was shown to be a circulating biomarker for detecting the tumor load in majority of patients with HBV‐related HCC and aided in monitoring residual tumor and recurrence clonality after tumor resection.

The purpose was to explore the exercise behavior of the Taiwanese population during leisure time and to examine the gender differences in related influential factors.
The Leisure Time and Sport ...Questionnaire (LTSQ) conducted by the Academia Sinica in 2007 was used for analysis. Participants were drawn from the Taiwanese population aged over 18 years old. Multinomial logistic regression models were used to test the association between the frequency of exercise and related factors in all the participants, male, and female participants, respectively.
In the total 2,147 participants, 47.8% reported they regularly exercised, 34.1% irregularly exercised, and 18.1% never exercised. There were no significant gender differences in the frequency of exercise, but a significant gender difference was found in the types of exercise most often practiced. Participants in one of following conditions, over 65 and under 40 years old, living in the city, having higher education levels, having a spouse or partner, enjoying exercise, feeling worthwhile to spend money on exercise, and not having to take care of others, were more likely to be engaged in regular exercise in the total population. The "enjoyment" in exercise was a significant influential factor for both sexes. Women were more likely to exercise regularly if they were aged 40-64 years old compared with those over 65 years old, have lower self-rated health scores, felt it was more worthwhile to spend money on exercise and did not have to care for another, whereas men who have higher education level and did not feel a lack of time were more likely to exercise regularly.
There are gender differences in regular exercise behavior during leisure time and related influential factors among Taiwanese adults. The findings of the present study can be used when designing gender-specific health promotion programs.

Although infection was the most common symptom in patients returning to the ED, whether intravenous antibiotic administration at the index visit could serve as an indicator of patients with ...infectious diseases at high risk for hospital admission after returning to the ED within a short period of time remains unclear. The study aimed to investigate the potential risk factors for hospital admission in patients returning to the ED within 72 hours with a final diagnosis of infectious diseases.
This retrospective cohort study analyzed return visits to the ED from January to December 2019. Adult patients aged >20 years who had a return visit to the ED within 72 hours with an infectious disease were included herein. In total, 715 eligible patients were classified into the intravenous antibiotics and non-intravenous antibiotics group (reference group). The outcome studied was hospital admission to general ward and intensive care unit (ICU) at the return visits.
Patients receiving intravenous antibiotics at index visits had significantly higher risk-approximately two times-for hospital admission at the return visits than those did not (adjusted odds ratio = 2.47, 95% CI = 1.34-4.57, p = 0.004). For every 10 years increase in age, the likelihood for hospital admission increased by 38%. Other factors included abnormal respiratory rate and high C-reactive protein levels.
Intravenous antibiotic administration at the index visit was an independent risk factor for hospital admission at return visits in patients with an infection disease. Physicians should consider carefully before discharging patients receiving intravenous antibiotics.

Oligodendrocytes (OLs), myelin-producing glia in the central nervous system (CNS), produce a myelin extension that enwraps axons to facilitate action potential propagation. An effective approach to ...induce oligodendrogenesis and myelination is important to foster CNS development and promote myelin repair in neurological diseases. Hericium (H.) erinaceus, an edible and culinary-medicinal mushroom, has been characterized as having neuroprotective activities. However, its effect on OL differentiation has not yet been uncovered. In this study using oligodendrocyte precursor cell (OPC) cultures and an ex vivo cerebellar slice system, we found that the extract from H. erinaceus mycelium (HEM) not only promoted the differentiation of OPCs to OLs in the differentiation medium, but also increased the level of myelin basic protein (MBP) on neuronal fibers. Moreover, daily oral administration of HEM into neonatal rat pups for 7 days enhanced MBP expression and OLs in the corpus callosum of the postnatal rat brain. The effect of HEM-derived bioactive compounds, the diterpenoid xylosides erinacine A (HeA) and HeC and a sesterterpene with 5 isoprene units called HeS, were further evaluated. The results showed that HeA and HeS more potently stimulated MBP expression in OLs and increased the number of OLs. Moreover, overlap between MBP immunoreactivity and neuronal fibers in cultured cerebellar tissue slices was significantly increased in the presence of HeA and HeS. In summary, our findings indicate that HEM extract and its ingredients HeA and HeS display promising functional effects and promote OL maturation, providing insights into their potential for myelination in neurodevelopmental disorders.

A fundamental challenge in chemical biology and medicine is to understand and expand the fraction of the human proteome that can be targeted by small molecules. We recently described a strategy that ...integrates fragment-based ligand discovery with chemical proteomics to furnish global portraits of reversible small-molecule/protein interactions in human cells. Excavating clear structure-activity relationships from these 'ligandability' maps, however, was confounded by the distinct physicochemical properties and corresponding overall protein-binding potential of individual fragments. Here, we describe a compelling solution to this problem by introducing a next-generation set of fully functionalized fragments differing only in absolute stereochemistry. Using these enantiomeric probe pairs, or 'enantioprobes', we identify numerous stereoselective protein-fragment interactions in cells and show that these interactions occur at functional sites on proteins from diverse classes. Our findings thus indicate that incorporating chirality into fully functionalized fragment libraries provides a robust and streamlined method to discover ligandable proteins in cells.

This study used
LUC 247 to ferment black rice sourdough, made into Type III black rice sourdough powder to produce black rice sourdough bread. The composition analysis, antioxidant capacity, and ...storage stability of the black rice sourdough bread with different proportions of black rice powder (0-60%) and fermented for different lengths of time (0-48 h) were discussed. The results showed that the black rice sourdough had the maximum lactic acid bacteria count (9 Log CFU/g) during 12 to 36 h of fermentation. The titratable acid, lactic acid, and acetic acid yields increased with the fermentation time and the proportion of black rice powder. The total anthocyanin content and antioxidant capacity increased with the fermentation time. The hardness and chewiness of the black rice sourdough bread were positively correlated with the black rice sourdough powder content and increased with storage time. In addition, the growth of fungi was significantly slowed as the additional level of black rice sourdough powder increased.
