Lithium (Li) metal is a promising anode material for high‐energy density batteries. However, the unstable and static solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) can be destroyed by the dynamic Li ...plating/stripping behavior on the Li anode surface, leading to side reactions and Li dendrites growth. Herein, we design a smart Li polyacrylic acid (LiPAA) SEI layer high elasticity to address the dynamic Li plating/stripping processes by self‐adapting interface regulation, which is demonstrated by in situ AFM. With the high binding ability and excellent stability of the LiPAA polymer, the smart SEI can significantly reduce the side reactions and improve battery safety markedly. Stable cycling of 700 h is achieved in the LiPAA‐Li/LiPAA‐Li symmetrical cell. The innovative strategy of self‐adapting SEI design is broadly applicable, providing opportunities for use in Li metal anodes

In group decision making (GDM) dealing with Computing with Words (CW) has been highlighted the importance of the statement, words mean different things for different people, because of its influence in the final decision. Different proposals that either grouping such different meanings (uncertainty) to provide one representation for all people or use multi-granular linguistic term sets with the semantics of each granularity, have been developed and applied in the specialized literature. Despite these models are quite useful they do not model individually yet the different meanings of each person when he/she elicits linguistic information. Hence, in this paper a personalized individual semantics (PIS) model is proposed to personalize individual semantics by means of an interval numerical scale and the 2-tuple linguistic model. Specifically, a consistency-driven optimization-based model to obtain and represent the PIS is introduced. A new CW framework based on the 2-tuple linguistic model is then defined, such a CW framework allows us to deal with PIS to facilitate CW keeping the idea that words mean different things to different people. In order to justify the feasibility and validity of the PIS model, it is applied to solve linguistic GDM problems with a consensus reaching process.

The reciprocal preference relation (RPR) is a powerful tool to represent decision makers’ preferences in decision making problems. In recent years, various types of RPRs have been reported and investigated, some of them being the ‘classical’ RPRs, interval-valued RPRs and hesitant RPRs. Additive consistency is one of the most commonly used property to measure the consistency of RPRs, with many methods developed to manage additive consistency of RPRs. To provide a clear perspective on additive consistency issues of RPRs, this paper reviews the consistency measurements of the different types of RPRs. Then, consistency-driven decision making and information fusion methods are also reviewed and classified into four main types: consistency improving methods; consistency-based methods to manage incomplete RPRs; consistency control in consensus decision making methods; and consistency-driven linguistic decision making methods. Finally, with respect to insights gained from prior researches, further directions for the research are proposed.

Diamide resistant phenotypes have evolved in the field and the resistance has been attributed to target-site mutations in some lepidopteran pests. In this study, we documented the resistance status ...of Chilo suppressalis to chlorantraniliprole during 2016–2018 in seven provinces of China. To investigate the possible role of target-site mutations as known from lepidopterans, we sequenced respective domains of the RyR gene of C. suppressalis with different levels of diamide resistance. The results revealed that I4758M (corresponding to I4790M in P. xylostella), Y4667D/C (numbered according to C. suppressalis), G4915E (corresponding to G4946E in P. xylostella), and one novel Y4891F (numbered according to C. suppressalis) RyR target-site mutations were present. The contribution of these mutations was further investigated by diamide toxicity bioassays with eight genome modified Drosophila melanogaster lines. The study showed that genome modified flies bearing the Y4667D mutation (corresponding to the Y4667D and I4758M simultaneous mutation in C. suppressalis) exhibited high resistance ratios to chlorantraniliprole (1542.8-fold), cyantraniliprole (487.9-fold) and tetrachlorantraniliprole (290.1-fold). The M4758I and G4915E simultaneous mutations (corresponding to single G4915E mutation in C. suppressalis) showed high resistance ratios to chlorantraniliprole (153.1-fold) and cyantraniliprole (323.5-fold), and relatively low resistance to flubendiamide (28.9-fold) and tetrachlorantraniliprole (25.2-fold). These findings suggest that multiple point mutations in RyR confer diamide resistance of C. suppressalis. The results contribute to a better understanding of insect diamide resistance mechanisms and provide insights on the impact of RyR target-site mutations in insects.

The discovery of high-performance adsorbents for highly efficient separation of xenon from krypton is an important but challenging task in the chemical industry due to their similar size and inert ...spherical nature. Herein, we report two robust and radiation-resistant Hofmann-type MOFs, Co(pyz)Ni(CN)4 and Co(pyz)Pd(CN)4 (termed as ZJU-74a-Ni and ZJU-74a-Pd), featuring oppositely adjacent open metal sites and perfect pore sizes (4.1 and 3.8 Å) comparable to the kinetic diameter of xenon (4.047 Å), affording the benchmark binding affinity for polarizable Xe gas. These materials thus exhibit both record-high Xe uptake capacities (89.3 and 98.4 cm3 cm–3 at 296 K and 0.2 bar) and Xe/Kr selectivities (74.1 and 103.4) at ambient conditions, all of which are the highest among all the state-of-the-art materials reported so far. The locations of Xe molecules within ZJU-74a-Ni have been visualized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies, in which two oppositely adjacent metal centers combined with the right aperture size can construct a unique sandwich-like binding site to offer unprecedented and ultrastrong Ni2+–Xe–Ni2+ interactions with xenon, thus leading to the record Xe capture capacity and selectivity. The excellent separation capacity of ZJU-74a-Pd was verified by breakthrough experiments for Xe/Kr gas mixtures, providing both unprecedentedly high xenon uptake capacity (4.63 mmol cm–3) and krypton productivity (214 cm3 g–1).

The fall armyworm (FAW), Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith), is native to the Americas. It has rapidly invaded 47 African countries and 18 Asian countries since the first detection of invasion into ...Nigeria and Ghana in 2016. It is regarded as a super pest based on its host range (at least 353 host plants), its inherent ability to survive in a wide range of habitats, its strong migration ability, high fecundity, rapid development of resistance to insecticides/viruses and its gluttonous characteristics. The inherently superior biological characteristics of FAW contribute to its invasiveness. Integrated pest management (IPM) of FAW has relied on multiple applications of monitoring and scouting, agricultural control, chemical pesticides, viral insecticides, sex attractants, bio-control agents (parasitoids, predators and entomopathogens) and botanicals. Knowledge gaps remain to be filled to: (1) understand the invasive mechanisms of S. frugiperda; (2) understand how to prevent its further spread and (3) provide better management strategies. This review summarizes the biological characters of FAW, their association with its invasiveness and IPM strategies, which may provide further insights for future management.

This article presents an adaptive Kalman filtering approach to estimate the orientation of human body segments by using magnetic-inertial measurement units (MIMUs) with three-axis gyroscope, ...accelerometer, and magnetometer. In order to mitigate the negative impact of the external accelerations and ferromagnetic disturbances, the disturbances are modeled by first-order Gauss-Markov processes, and two parallel adaptive Kalman filters containing disturbance models are implemented to eliminate the disturbances. An adaptive factor is introduced to adjust the process noise covariance matrix to compensate for modeling errors induced by unmodeled gyroscope biases and the erroneous process noise covariance matrices. Furthermore, the outliers are checked and discarded by hypothesis tests on the innovation, and the measurement is rejected when the innovation exceeds a given confidence interval. Then, the estimated gravity acceleration and geomagnetic field are used to calculate the orientation quaternion using triaxial attitude determination algorithm. Finally, experiments under different motion scenarios are carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method, and the performance of the proposed method is discussed in comparison with existing ones. A forward kinematics three-dimensional (3-D) human motion reconstruction method is proposed to drive the human skeleton model to reproduce human motion with a visual interface based on ROS platform.
Bone metastases occur in most advanced breast cancer patients and cause serious skeletal-related complications. The mechanisms by which bone metastasis seeds develop in primary tumors and ...specifically colonize the bone remain to be elucidated. Here, we show that forkhead box F2 (FOXF2) functions as a master transcription factor for reprogramming cancer cells into an osteomimetic phenotype by pleiotropic transactivation of the BMP4/SMAD1 signaling pathway and bone-related genes that are expressed at early stages of bone differentiation. The epithelial-to-osteomimicry transition regulated by FOXF2 confers a tendency on cancer cells to metastasize to bone which leads to osteolytic bone lesions. The BMP antagonist Noggin significantly inhibits FOXF2-driven osteolytic bone metastasis of breast cancer cells. Thus, targeting the FOXF2-BMP/SMAD axis might be a promising therapeutic strategy to manage bone metastasis. The role of FOXF2 in transactivating bone-related genes implies a biological function of FOXF2 in regulating bone development and remodeling.
Angiotensin II stimulates fibroblast proliferation and substantially alters gene expression patterns leading to cardiac remodeling, but the mechanisms for such differences are unknown. MicroRNAs are ...a novel mechanism for gene expression regulation. Herein, we tested the miRNA and mRNA expression patterns in mouse heart using microarray assay and investigated their role in angiotensin II–induced cardiac remodeling. We found that let-7i was dynamically downregulated in angiotensin II–infused heart at day 3 and 7 and had the most targets that were mainly associated with cardiac inflammation and fibrosis. Overexpression or knockdown of let-7i in cultured cardiac fibroblasts demonstrated that let-7i played an inhibitory effect on the expression of its targets interleukin-6 and collagens. Furthermore, delivery of let-7i to mouse significantly inhibited angiotensin II–induced cardiac inflammation and fibrosis in a dose-dependent manner. Conversely, knockdown of let-7i aggravated this effect. Together, our results clearly demonstrate that let-7i acts as a novel negative regulator of angiotensin II–induced cardiac inflammation and fibrosis by suppressing the expression of interleukin-6 and multiple collagens in the heart and may represent a new potential therapeutic target for treating hypertensive cardiac fibrosis.

Adsorption of Sb(III) ions onto mercapto-functionalized silica-supported organic–inorganic hybrid sorbent from aqueous solutions was studied by a batch technique. The mercapto-functionalized hybrid sorbent was prepared via sol–gel method and characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectra and scanning electron microscopy coupled to an energy dispersive spectrometer. The effects of parameters (such as pH, contact time, initial concentration and temperature) on the adsorption of Sb(III) onto mercapto-functionalized hybrid sorbent were investigated. Mercapto-functionalized hybrid sorbent had a tendency toward higher adsorption affinity for Sb(III) compared with the Sb(V), a fast adsorption equilibrium time within 20min, and a wide pH range (3–8) for Sb(III) adsorption. The Langmuir, Freundlich and Dubbin–Radushkevich isotherm models were applied to describe the equilibrium data of Sb(III) adsorption. The analysis of adsorption isotherms indicated that Langmuir model described well the equilibrium data of Sb(III) adsorption. The capacity of mercapto-functionalized hybrid sorbent for Sb(III) was found to be 108.8mgg−1. The analysis of the kinetic data by the pseudo-first-order, pseudo-second-order, Elovich and intraparticle diffusion kinetic models revealed that pseudo-second-order model gave the best fit for Sb(III) adsorption. Thermodynamic parameters demonstrated that adsorption of Sb(III) ions onto mercapto-functionalized hybrid sorbent was an endothermic, spontaneous and thermodynamically feasible process. As the results indicated, mercapto-functionalized hybrid sorbent has a suitable potential for the removal of Sb(III) ions in practical process.
