) and nitrobenzene. Furthermore, the experimental results for stability in water and cycle test show that these two MOFs can be used as potential fluorescent probes.
In this paper, we discovered that ZnFe2O4 magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) possess intrinsic peroxidase-like activity. ZnFe2O4 MNPs exhibit several advantages such as high catalytic efficiency, good ...stability, monodispersion, and rapid separation over other peroxidase nanomimetics and horseradish peroxidase (HRP). ZnFe2O4 MNPs were used as a colorimetric biosensor for the detection of urine glucose. This method is simple, inexpensive, highly sensitive, and selective for glucose detection using glucose oxidase (GOx) and ZnFe2O4 MNPs with a linear range from 1.25 × 10–6 to 1.875 × 10–5 mol L–1 with a detection limit of 3.0 × 10–7 mol L–1. The color change observable by the naked eyes based on the oxidation of 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) is the principle for the sensing of urine glucose level.

A diuron-degrading endophyte DP8-1 was isolated from sugarcane root grown in diuron-treated soil in the present study. The endophyte was identified as Neurospora intermedia based on the morphological ...characteristics and sequence analysis. The fermentation parameters including temperature, pH, inoculation size, carbon source, and initial diuron concentration were also investigated for the optimization of degradation efficiency. The results indicated that strain DP8-1 was capable of degrading up to 99% diuron within 3 days under the optimal degrading condition. The study of degradation spectrum indicated that strain DP8-1 could also degrade and utilize fenuron, monuron, metobromuron, isoproturon, chlorbromuron, linuron, and chlortoluron as substrate for strain growth. On basis of liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis for the products of the degradation of diuron, strain DP8-1 metabolized diuron to produce N-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-urea and N-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-N-methylurea through sequential N-dealkylations. In a soil bioaugmentation experiment, the inoculation of strain DP8-1 into diuron-treated soil effectively enhanced the disappearance rate of diuron.

Thiamethoxam, an insecticide with high usage and large amounts of environmental residues, has been reported to affect the pupation and survival of honey bee larvae at sublethal concentrations. The ...molecular mechanisms are not fully understood. In this study, we measured the response of juvenile hormone (JH) to environmental concentrations of thiamethoxam using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), monitored the dynamic changes in the transcription of genes encoding major JH metabolic enzymes (CYP15A1, FAMET, JHAMT and JHE) using RT-qPCR, and analysed the transcriptome changes in worker larvae under thiamethoxam stress using RNA-seq. Thiamethoxam significantly increased the levels of JH3 in honey bee larvae, but no significant changes in the transcript levels of the four major metabolic enzymes were observed. Thiamethoxam exposure resulted in 140 differentially expressed genes (DEGs). P450 CYP6AS5 was upregulated, and some ion-related, odourant-related and gustatory receptors for sugar taste genes were altered significantly. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis revealed that amino acid metabolism and protein digestion and absorption were influenced by thiamethoxam. These changes may do harm to honey bee caste differentiation, foraging behaviour related to sensory perception and nutrient levels of bee colonies. These results represent the first assessment of the effects of thiamethoxam on JH in honey bee larvae and provides a new perspective and molecular basis for the study of JH regulation and thiamethoxam toxicity to honey bees.

: Inflammatory markers may be associated with mortality in the elderly population. We conducted this meta-analysis to evaluate the association of elevated circulating interleukin-6 levels with cardiovascular or all-cause mortality in the general elderly population.
A comprehensive literature search was conducted through the Pubmed and Embase databases until April 2016. Prospective observational studies that investigated the association of circulating interleukin-6 levels with cardiovascular or all-cause mortality in the elderly general population (aged 60 years or more) were included. Pooled risk ratio (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated by the highest vs. the lowest interleukin-6 levels.
Nine prospective studies involving 9087 participants were identified. When comparing the highest with the lowest interleukin-6 levels, the pooled RR of all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality were 1.49 (95% CI 1.33–1.67) and 1.69 (95% CI 1.27–2.25), respectively. Subgroup analysis indicated the effects of interleukin-6 on all-cause mortality were consistently observed in sample sizes, region, durations of follow-up, interleukin-6 cutoff value and number of adjusted for covariates subgroups.
This meta-analysis indicates that elevated circulating interleukin-6 levels are independently associated with greater risk of cardiovascular and all-cause mortality in the general elderly population.

Food adulteration and feed contamination are significant issues in the food/feed industry, especially for meat products. Reliable techniques are needed to monitor these issues. Droplet Digital PCR ...(ddPCR) assays were developed and evaluated for detection and quantification of bovine, porcine, chicken and turkey DNA in food and feed samples. The ddPCR methods were designed based on mitochondrial DNA sequences and integrated with an artificial recombinant plasmid DNA to control variabilities in PCR procedures. The specificity of the ddPCR assays was confirmed by testing both target species and additional 18 non-target species. Linear regression established a detection range between 79 and 33200 copies of the target molecule from 0.26 to 176 pg of fresh animal tissue DNA with a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.997-0.999. The quantification ranges of the methods for testing fortified heat-processed food and feed samples were 0.05-3.0% (wt/wt) for the bovine and turkey targets, and 0.01-1.0% (wt/wt) for pork and chicken targets. Our methods demonstrated acceptable repeatability and reproducibility for the analytical process for food and feed samples. Internal validation of the PCR process was monitored using a control chart for 74 consecutive ddPCR runs for quantifying bovine DNA. A matrix effect was observed while establishing calibration curves with the matrix type under testing, and the inclusion of an internal control in DNA extraction provides a useful means to overcome this effect. DNA degradation caused by heating, sonication or Taq I restriction enzyme digestion was found to reduce ddPCR readings by as much as 4.5 fold. The results illustrated the applicability of the methods to quantify meat species in food and feed samples without the need for a standard curve, and to potentially support enforcement activities for food authentication and feed control. Standard reference materials matching typical manufacturing processes are needed for future validation of ddPCR assays for absolute quantification of meat species.

Bevacizumab is considered a promising therapy for brain necrosis after radiotherapy, while some patients fail to derive benefit or even worsen. Hence, we developed and validated a radiomics model for ...predicting the response to bevacizumab in patients with brain necrosis after radiotherapy.
A total of 149 patients (with 194 brain lesions; 101, 51, and 42 in the training, internal, and external validation sets, respectively) receiving bevacizumab were enrolled. In total, 1,301 radiomic features were extracted from the pretreatment MRI images of each lesion. In the training set, a radiomics signature was constructed using the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator algorithm. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was then used to develop a radiomics model incorporated in the radiomics signature and independent clinical predictors. The performance of the model was assessed by its discrimination, calibration, and clinical usefulness with internal and external validation.
The radiomics signature consisted of 18 selected features and showed good discrimination performance. The model, which integrates the radiomics signature, the interval between radiotherapy and diagnosis of brain necrosis, and the interval between diagnosis of brain necrosis and treatment with bevacizumab, showed favorable calibration and discrimination in the training set (AUC 0.916). These findings were confirmed in the validation sets (AUC 0.912 and 0.827, respectively). Decision curve analysis confirmed the clinical utility of the model.
The presented radiomics model, available as an online calculator, can serve as a user-friendly tool for individualized prediction of the response to bevacizumab in patients with brain necrosis after radiotherapy.
Background: The controlling nutritional status (CONUT) score and the prognostic nutritional index (PNI) score were designed as indicators of patients’ immune-nutritional status. This study aimed to ...investigate the prognostic impact of the CONUT and PNI scores on long-term recurrent ischemic stroke (RIS) and adverse outcomes for adults with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Methods: This retrospective study enrolled 991 AIS patients. Multivariable Cox regression models were used to assess the relationships of the malnutritional indices and RIS and major cardiovascular events (MACEs). Results: During a median follow-up at 44 months (IQR 39−49 months), 203 (19.2%) patients had RIS and 261 (26.3%) had MACEs. Compared with normal nutritional status, moderate to severe malnutrition was significantly related to an increased risk of RIS in the CONUT score (adjusted hazard ratio (HR) 3.472, 95% confidence interval (CI) 2.223−5.432, p < 0.001). A higher PNI value tertile (tertile two, adjusted HR 0.295, 95% CI 0.202−0.430; tertile three, adjusted HR 0.445, 95% CI 0.308−0.632, all p < 0.001) was related to a lower risk of RIS. Similar results were found for MACEs. The PNI exhibited nonlinear association with the RIS and both two malnutritional indices improved the model’s discrimination when added to the model with other clinical risk factors. Conclusions: This study demonstrated that the CONUT and PNI are promising, straightforward screening indicators to identify AIS patients with impaired immune-nutritional status at higher risk of long-term RIS and MACEs.

glucose as additional carbon source. The endophyte was capable of degrading above 98% BSM within 7 d under the optimal degrading conditions. Furthermore, strain CD3 could also effectively degrade other sulfonylurea herbicides including nicosulfuron, halosulfuron methyl, pyrazosulfuron, and ethoxysulfuron. Extracellular enzyme played a critical role on the BSM degradation by strain CD3. Two degrading metabolites were detected and identified by using liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS). The biochemical degradation pathways of BSM by this endophyte were proposed. The genomic analysis of strain CD3 revealed the presence of putative hydrolase or esterase genes involved in BSM degradation, suggesting that a novel degradation enzyme for BSM was present in this BSM-degrading
Proteus
sp. CD3. The results of this research suggested that strain CD3 may have potential for using in the bioremediation of BSM-contaminated environment.
Some observational studies had found that shift work would increase risks of metabolic disorders, cancers, and cardiovascular diseases, but there was no homogeneous evidence of such an association ...between shift work and incident dementia. This study aimed to investigate whether shift work would increase the risk of dementia in a general population.
One hundred seventy thousand seven hundred twenty-two employed participants without cognitive impairment or dementia at baseline recruited between 2006 and 2010 were selected from the UK Biobank cohort study. Follow-up occurred through June 2021. Shift work status at baseline was self-reported by participants and they were categorized as non-shift workers or shift workers. Among shift workers, participants were further categorized as night shift workers or shift but non-night shift workers. The primary outcome was all-cause dementia in a time-to-event analysis, and the secondary outcomes were subtypes of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, and other types of dementia.
In total, 716 dementia cases were observed among 170,722 participants over a median follow-up period of 12.4 years. Shift workers had an increased risk of all-cause dementia as compared with non-shift workers after multivariable adjustment (hazard ratio HR, 1.30, 95% confidence interval CI, 1.08-1.58); however, among shift workers, night shift work was not associated with the risk of dementia (HR, 1.04, 95% CI, 0.73-1.47). We found no significant interaction between shift work and genetic predisposition to dementia on the primary outcome (P for interaction = 0.77).
Shift work at baseline was associated with an increased risk of all-cause dementia. Among shift workers, there was no significant association between night shift work and the risk of dementia. The increased incidence of dementia in shift workers did not differ between participants in different genetic risk strata for dementia.
