We investigated whether genetic susceptibility to tuberculosis (TB) influences lung adenocarcinoma development among never-smokers using TB genome-wide association study (GWAS) results within the ...Female Lung Cancer Consortium in Asia. Pathway analysis with the adaptive rank truncated product method was used to assess the association between a TB-related gene-set and lung adenocarcinoma using GWAS data from 5512 lung adenocarcinoma cases and 6277 controls. The gene-set consisted of 31 genes containing known/suggestive associations with genetic variants from previous TB-GWAS. Subsequently, we followed-up with Mendelian Randomization to evaluate the association between TB and lung adenocarcinoma using three genome-wide significant variants from previous TB-GWAS in East Asians. The TB-related gene-set was associated with lung adenocarcinoma (p = 0.016). Additionally, the Mendelian Randomization showed an association between TB and lung adenocarcinoma (OR = 1.31, 95% CI: 1.03, 1.66, p = 0.027). Our findings support TB as a causal risk factor for lung cancer development among never-smoking Asian women.

This research investigates the brace-to-gusset connection designs to allow the braces buckle in the plane (IP) of the frame. In order to study the performance of the IP buckling brace connections ...with different design details, five 3,026 mm-long A36 H 175 × 175 × 7.5 × 11 mm braces were tested using cyclically increasing axial displacements. All specimens failed at an average axial strain less than 0.025 due to the brace fracture at the mid-length where severe local buckling had occurred. Pseudo-dynamic tests on a three-story special concentrically braced frame (SCBF) using the proposed brace end connection details for six A36 H 150 × 150 × 7 × 10 mm braces were conducted using the PGA = 597 cm/s2 LA03 record to confirm with the component tests. The knife plates and IP buckling braces sustained a peak 0.049 rad interstory drift under the design base earthquake without fracture. The highly nonlinear responses were satisfactorily predicted by OpenSees. Recommendations on the seismic design of the IP buckling brace connections are provided.

Background/Aims
Intrabolus pressures are important for esophageal bolus transport and may detect obstructed bolus flow. This study measured the effect esophageal outflow obstruction experimentally ...induce by a leg-lift protocol.
Methods
Twenty-five gastroesophageal reflux disease patients referred for esophageal manometry and a normal motility diagnosis were included. Supine liquid swallows were tested. Leg-lift protocol generated esophageal outflow obstruction by increasing abdominal pressure. Esophageal pressure topography and intrabolus pressure metrics were calculated. These included, (1) mid-domain bolus distension pressure during esophageal emptying (DPE, mmHg) and (2) ramp pressure (mmHg/sec), generated by compression of the bolus between the peristaltic contraction and esophagogastric junction (EGJ).
Results
EGJ relaxation pressure was increased by leg-lift from 13 (11-17) to 19 (14-30) mmHg (P < 0.005) and distal contractile integral also increased from 1077 (883-1349) to 1620 (1268-2072) mmHgㆍcmㆍsec (P < 0.001) as a physiological response to obstruction. All bolus pressures were increased by leg lift; DPE increased from 17 (15-20) to 27 (19-32) mmHg (P < 0.001), and ramp pressure increased from 3 (1-4) to 5 (2-9) mmHg/sec (P < 0.05).
Conclusion
Measuring pressures within the intrabolus domain can quantify changes related to obstruction to outflow and may serve as adjunct measures for confirming a diagnosis EGJ outflow obstruction. (J Neurogastroenterol Motil 2022;28:62-68)

An integrated design framework is proposed to automate radiation-harden (rad-hard) VLSI systems in a standard CMOS technology. TMR, DICE, SERL, ELT, and ECC techniques are integrated across ...architecture, circuit, and layout levels. Performance of the rad-hard cells were evaluated in 0.18m CMOS. A rad-hard RISC processor targeting for an inclination micro-satellite on a 720km orbit was realized in 90nm CMOS. The chip was tested by applying heavy ions with corresponding radiation dose. The rad-hard RISC processor functions under all the test conditions (LET \lt 101.5 MeV-cm ^{2} / mg), validating the effectiveness of the methodology.
