Background
Peripheral lymphatic radiotherapy in patients with pT3N0M0 and pT4N0M0 breast cancer has been a matter of considerable debate among radiation oncologists. This is the first report in a ...non-Caucasian population.
Patients and Methods
The study included 165 pT3N0M0 and pT4N0M0 patients. Univariate, multivariate, propensity score matching (PSM), and Kaplan-Meier analyses were conducted to evaluate the survival of patients. We also review all the literature about regional lymph nodes radiation in T3-4N0M0 patients and summarize them with tables to compare with the present study.
Results
The median follow-up duration was 58.7 months. Multivariate analyses showed that advance T stage and grade were dependent poor prognostic factors for OS, DMFS, LRFS, and DFS between group A (chest wall radiation) and group B (chest wall and regional lymph nodes radiation). The overall survival (OS), disease-free survival (DFS), local relapse-free survival (LRFS), and distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS) rates were not significantly different between group A and group B. The 5-year OS rate was 92.3%

89.7% for group A and group B, respectively (P=0.819). The 5-year LRFS rate was 94.9%

94.3% for group A and group B, respectively (P=0.852). Fifty-four pairs of patients were selected after propensity score matching (PSM) analysis was conducted. There was also no significant difference between group A and group B in regard to the OS, DFS, LRFS, and DMFS rates after PSM. The patients included in previous studies were all Caucasians, and our study was focused on non-Caucasians. The cases of previous studies were 10 to 20 years ago, but our study has more recent cases. The radiotherapy techniques of previous studies were conventional, and the techniques used in our study were three-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3DCRT) or intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT).
Conclusion
Both our study and previous studies suggested that regional lymph nodes radiation cannot improve the survival rate for breast cancer patients with T3-4N0M0 in non-Caucasian population. Advance T stage and grade were the dependent poor prognostic factors for T3-4N0M0 patients.
Schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depression have been reported to be associated with some cancers. However, the magnitude of the causal relationship between them remains unclear. This study ...aims to explore the potential association between three major mental diseases and the risk of some cancers.
We performed the two-sample Mendelian randomization(MR) analysis using publicly available genome-wide association studies (GWAS) statistics to investigate the causal relationship between these three mental diseases and some common types of cancers, including breast cancer, ovarian cancer, lung cancer, colorectal cancer, bladder cancer, prostate cancer, thyroid cancer, pancreatic cancer, malignant melanoma and glioma. We obtained genetic association estimates for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression from the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium.The genetic association estimates for cancers were obtained from the UK Biobank, the MRC-IEU consortium and the GliomaScan consortium.
After correction for heterogeneity and horizontal pleiotropy, we detected suggestive evidence for the association between thyroid cancer and genetically predicted schizophrenia (OR = 1.543, 95% CI: 1.023–2.328, P = 0.039), and thyroid cancer and major depression (OR = 3.573, 95% CI: 1.068–11.953, P = 0.039). No evidence of causal effects of schizophrenia, major depression and bipolar disorder on other types of cancers.
Our findings suggest the association of schizophrenia and major depression and the development of thyroid cancer.

Xerostomia, caused by radiation-induced parotid damage, is the most commonly reported radiotherapy (RT) complication for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the value of intravoxel incoherent motion (IVIM) MR in monitoring radiation-induced parotid gland damage and predicting the risk of xerostomia.
Fifty-four NPC patients were enrolled and underwent at least three IVIM MR scans: before (pre-RT), after 5 fractions of (5th-RT), halfway through (mid-RT), and after RT (post-RT). The degree of xerostomia patients was assessed before each MR examination. Furthermore, the time when patients first reported xerostomia symptoms was recorded. The changes in IVIM parameters throughout RT, as well as the relationships between IVIM parameters and xerostomia, were analysed.
All IVIM parameters increased significantly from pre-RT to post-RT (p < 0.001). The rates of D, D* and f increase increased significantly from pre-RT to mid-RT (p < 0.001), indicating that cell necrosis mainly occurs in the first half of RT. In multivariate analysis, N3 (p = 0.014), pre-D (p = 0.007) and pre-D* (p = 0.003) were independent factors influencing xerostomia. D and f were significantly higher at 5th-RT than at pre-RT (both p < 0.05). IVIM detected parotid gland injury at 5th-RT at an average scanning time of 6.18 ± 1.07 days, earlier than the 11.94 ± 2.61 days when the patient first complained of xerostomia according to the RTOG scale (p < 0.001).
IVIM MR can dynamically monitor radiation-induced parotid gland damage and assess it earlier and more objectively than RTOG toxicity. Moreover, IVIM can screen people at risk of more severe xerostomia early.

This meta-analysis compared the clinical outcomes between two alternative surgeries for patients with cervical spondylosis, namely anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) without plate ...(ACDFWP) vs. anterior cervical disc arthroplasty (ACDA). We searched databases, including PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, Google Scholar, and Web of Science (firstly available-2019). A standard meta-analysis was performed with the included studies. A Risk of Bias in Non-randomized Studies of Interventions (ROBINS-I) tool was used for the evaluation of the study quality of nonrandomized-controlled trials (nRCTs), while a Risk of Bias (RoB) battery was used for randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Eight studies involving 640 patients were included. No significant difference was found in the indices of Neck Disability Index (NDI) score, Visual Analog Score (VAS), Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA) score, operative time, blood loss, Swallowing Quality of Life Score (SWAL-QL), and complications. Cervical alignment was significantly better in the ACDFWP than in ACDA (mean difference (MD) = −0.67, 95% confidence interval (CI) −1.11, −0.23, P = 0.003, I2 = 20%). Although the alternative ACDFWP was slightly superior in terms of the index of cervical alignment, the limited research on this subject present insufficient evidence. Further well-designed studies are warranted in the future.
Elevated serum sialic acid (SA) is one of the indicators of poor prognosis in various malignant tumors. This study intends to determine the relationship between serum SA levels and survival prognosis ...in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).
From 2014 to 2016, NPC patients with no distance metastasis undergoing intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) were retrospectively analyzed. The serum SA levels before initial treatment were measured, and an optimal cut-off level was determined by X-tile software. A propensity score matching (PSM) technique was applied to reduce intergroup differences between the low serum SA level group and the high serum SA level group. Chi-square tests were utilized for comparing intergroup differences, Kaplan-Meier approach was utilized for plotting survival curves, and univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression models were employed for analyzing prognostic factors.
Overall, 293 NPC patients with no distance metastasis were included. The optimal cut-off level of serum SA was 65.10 mg/dl. The baseline levels after PSM were more balanced compared to those before PSM. Survival analysis showed that the locoregional relapse-free survival (LRRFS, p=0.010), distant metastasis-free survival (DMFS, p=0.014), progression-free survival (PFS, p=0.009), and overall survival (OS, p=0.015) survival curves of the low serum SA level group and high serum SA level group were statistically significant differences. Univariate analysis showed that American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) stage, T stage, N stage, neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NC), and serum SA expression level were factors influencing the prognosis of NPC patients. Multivariate analysis showed that high serum SA expression level was related to worse PFS and OS in NPC patients with no distance metastasis.
High serum SA level (SA > 65.10 mg/dl) before treatment is associated to poor survival outcomes in NPC and is an independent adverse prognostic factor in NPC patients with no distance metastasis.

This ...study aimed to assess the status of red blood cell (RBC) folate and serum folate, vitamin B-12, and homocysteine (Hcy) and their associated factors in a cohort of pregnancy-preparing couples.
This was a cross-sectional study involving 14,178 participants from the extension of the Shanghai Preconception Cohort conducted in 2018–2021. Circulating biomarker concentrations were measured, and the prevalence of abnormal status was reported. Linear and logistic regression analyses were conducted to examine associations of demographic factors (age, education, and income), lifestyle factors (smoking, drinking, and folic acid supplement use), and BMI with concentrations of the folate-related biomarkers, abnormal status of folate (deficiency and insufficiency) and vitamin B-12 (deficiency and marginal deficiency), and hyperhomocysteinemia.
The geometric mean (95% CI) concentrations of RBC folate, serum folate, vitamin B-12, and Hcy were 490 nmol/L (485, 496 nmol/L), 20.1 nmol/L (19.8, 20.3 nmol/L), 353 pmol/L (350, 357 pmol/L), and 7.54 μmol/L (7.48, 7.60 μmol/L) in females, respectively, and 405 nmol/L (401, 409 nmol/L), 13.5 nmol/L (13.4, 13.7 nmol/L), 277 pmol/L (274, 279 pmol/L), and 12.0 μmol/L (11.9, 12.2 μmol/L) in males, respectively. Prevalence of abnormal status was higher in males than females for the 4 folate-related biomarkers: RBC folate deficiency (<340 nmol/L, 32.2% compared with 18.9%), serum folate deficiency (<10.0 nmol/L, 26.5% compared with 7.3%), RBC folate insufficiency (<906 nmol/L, 96.6% compared with 90.1%), serum folate insufficiency (<15.9 nmol/L, 65.5% compared with 31.4%), vitamin B-12 marginal deficiency (148–221 pmol/L, 21.4% compared with 8.8%), and hyperhomocysteinemia (>15.0 μmol/L, 22.1% compared with 2.5%).
Most pregnancy-preparing couples failed to achieve the optimal RBC folate status (>906 nmol/L) as recommended by the WHO. These findings call for attention to the insufficiency status of folate and promising strategies to improve the folate status of the pregnancy-preparing population not exposed to folic acid fortification.

The procedure of mass production of test-tube seedlings of seedless watermelon clones is as follows: 1). Rapid propagation of adventitious buds by tissue culture. 2). Rapid propagation of ...adventitious buds to be used as scions by water culture. 3). Mass production of grafted watermelon seedlings for sale. The root stock was disease resistant. From 1985 to 1987, a total of 37.9 ha. of triploid seedless watermelon were raised from these grafted seedlings with a net profit of 16972.5 ha. The crop was vigorous, resistant to root disease and high yielding with very good quality of seedless watermelon.

Our previous studies have demonstrated that stable microRNAs （miRNAs） in mammalian serum and plasma are actively secreted from tissues and cells and can serve as a novel class of biomarkers for ...diseases, and act as signaling molecules in intercellular communication. Here, we report the surprising finding that exogenous plant miRNAs are present in the sera and tissues of various animals and that these exogenous plant miRNAs are primarily acquired orally, through food intake. MIR168a is abundant in rice and is one of the most highly enriched exogenous plant miRNAs in the sera of Chinese subjects. Functional studies in vitro and in vivo demonstrated that MIR168a could bind to the human/mouse low-density lipoprotein receptor adapter protein 1 （LDLRAP1） mRNA, inhibit LDLRAP1 expression in liver, and consequently decrease LDL removal from mouse plasma. These findings demonstrate that ex- ogenous plant miRNAs in food can regulate the expression of target genes in mammals.

PRELP is thought to be an inhibitor of the development and progression of a variety of malignancies. Metastasis is a major cause of death in patients with colorectal cancer, but the mechanism ...underlying the role of PRELP in colorectal cancer metastasis remains poorly understood. In this study, we found that PRELP was significantly higher in metastatic tissues than in non-metastatic tissues of colorectal cancer and was closely associated with poor prognosis of colorectal cancer patients. PRELP promotes growth and metastasis of colorectal cancer cells. PRELP reduces cell stiffness and adhesion. PRELP promoted EMT in colorectal cancer cells and that PRELP bind to integrin α5 to activate the integrin α5/FAK/AKT signaling pathway. In conclusion, we demonstrate that PRELP is upregulated in metastatic colorectal cancer, providing a potential prognostic marker and therapeutic target for the clinical management of metastatic colorectal cancer from a biomechanical perspective.
