This study attempts to document the nexus between weather, COVID-19 outbreak in Wuhan and the Chinese economy. We used daily average temperature (hourly data), daily new confirmed cases of COVID-19 ...in Wuhan, and RMB (Chinese currency) exchange rate to represent the weather, COVID-19 outbreak and the Chinese economy, respectively. The methodology of Wavelet Transform Coherence (WTC), Partial Wavelet Coherence (PWC) and Multiple Wavelet Coherence (MWC) is employed to analyze the daily data collected from 21st January 2020 to 31st March 2020. The results have revealed a significant coherence between the series at different time-frequency combinations. The overall results suggest the insignificance of an increase in temperature to contain or slow down the new COVID-19 infections. The RMB exchange rate and the COVID-19 showed an out phase coherence at specific time-frequency spots suggesting a negative but limited impact of the COVID-19 outbreak in Wuhan on the Chinese export economy. Our results are contrary to many earlier studies which suggest a significant role of temperature in slowing down the COVID-19 spread. These results can have important policy implications for the containment of COVID-19 spread and macro-economic management with respect to changes in the weather.

Declines in both physical and cognitive function are associated with increasing age. Understanding the physiological link between physical frailty and cognitive decline may allow us to develop ...interventions that prevent and treat both conditions. Although there is significant epidemiological evidence linking physical frailty to cognitive decline, a complete understanding of the underpinning biological basis of the two disorders remains fragmented. This narrative review discusses insights into the potential roles of chronic inflammation, impaired hypothalamic-pituitary axis stress response, imbalanced energy metabolism, mitochondrial dysfunction, oxidative stress, and neuroendocrine dysfunction linking physical frailty with cognitive decline. We highlight the importance of easier identification of strategic approaches delaying the progression and onset of physical frailty and cognitive decline as well as preventing disability in the older population.

Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been found to perform various functions in a wide variety of important biological processes. To make easier interpretation of lncRNA functionality and conduct deep ...mining on these transcribed sequences, it is convenient to classify lncRNAs into different groups. Here, we summarize classification methods of lncRNAs according to their four major features, namely, genomic location and context, effect exerted on DNA sequences, mechanism of functioning and their targeting mechanism. In combination with the presently available function annotations, we explore potential relationships between different classification categories, and generalize and compare biological features of different lncRNAs within each category. Finally, we present our view on potential further studies. We believe that the classifications of lncRNAs as indicated above are of fundamental importance for lncRNA studies, helpful for further investigation of specific lncRNAs, for formulation of new hypothesis based on different features of lncRNA and for exploration of the underlying lncRNA functional mechanisms.

The demand for healthy old-age care is growing rapidly in China. The traditional old-age care model can no longer meet elderly patients’ demands for medical care and old-age care. To promote the ...development of medical care-integrated old-age care, a solution covering multiple aspects is necessary. In the context of the global development of healthy aging, China recently issued many policies to integrate old-age care with medical care, establishing protection for a large number of disabled elderly people. The Integrated Care of Older People (ICOPE) project is an international program developed by the World Health Organization. This paper reviews China’s medical and old-age care integration model and the opportunities and challenges in implementing the ICOPE in the context of healthy aging in China.
Abstract
Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have significant functions in a wide range of important biological processes. Although the number of known human lncRNAs has dramatically increased, they are ...poorly annotated, posing great challenges for better understanding their functional significance and elucidating their complex functioning molecular mechanisms. Here, we present LncBook (http://bigd.big.ac.cn/lncbook), a curated knowledgebase of human lncRNAs that features a comprehensive collection of human lncRNAs and systematic curation of lncRNAs by multi-omics data integration, functional annotation and disease association. In the present version, LncBook houses a large number of 270 044 lncRNAs and includes 1867 featured lncRNAs with 3762 lncRNA–function associations. It also integrates an abundance of multi-omics data from expression, methylation, genome variation and lncRNA–miRNA interaction. Also, LncBook incorporates 3772 experimentally validated lncRNA-disease associations and further identifies a total of 97 998 lncRNAs that are putatively disease-associated. Collectively, LncBook is dedicated to the integration and curation of human lncRNAs as well as their associated data and thus bears great promise to serve as a valuable knowledgebase for worldwide research communities.
Multiciliate cells employ hundreds of motile cilia to produce fluid flow, which they nucleate and extend by first assembling hundreds of centrioles. In most cells, entry into the cell cycle allows ...centrioles to undergo a single round of duplication, but in differentiating multiciliate cells, massive centriole assembly occurs in G0 by a process initiated by a small coiled-coil protein, Multicilin. Here we show that Multicilin acts by forming a ternary complex with E2f4 or E2f5 and Dp1 that binds and activates most of the genes required for centriole biogenesis, while other cell cycle genes remain off. This complex also promotes the deuterosome pathway of centriole biogenesis by activating the expression of deup1 but not its paralog, cep63. Finally, we show that this complex is disabled by mutations in human Multicilin that cause a severe congenital mucociliary clearance disorder due to reduced generation of multiple cilia. By coopting the E2f regulation of cell cycle genes, Multicilin drives massive centriole assembly in epithelial progenitors in a manner required for multiciliate cell differentiation.
An effective method for bonding carbon nanotubes (CNTs) onto carbon fibers (CFs) surface via layer-by-layer (LBL) grafting method is reported here. The CNTs have been chemically grafted as confirmed ...by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) indicates that this LBL method can increase the dispersion quality of the CNTs on CF surface. The polarity, wettability and roughness of the CFs have been significantly increased after the CNTs modifying. The interfacial shear strength (IFSS) and impact strength test suggest that the hierarchical structure can result in a remarkable improvement for the interfacial properties. The results also indicate that this LBL method is a promising technique to modify CFs with the high interfacial performance.

STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION
Twenty-four women with recurrent miscarriage (RM) and 70 women undergoing elective termination of an early normal pregnancy (NP) were included. Twelve female CBA/J, four male DBA/2, and four male BALB/c mice were included and mating carried out. The 12 CBA/J pregnant mice were then categorized into three groups of four mice: healthy control group CBA/J×BALB/c, abortion-prone pregnant group CBA/J×DBA/2 and normal pregnancies CBA/J×BALB/c treated with anti-PD-1 monoclonal antibodies.
PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS
The profile of DMs, and the expression of PD-1 and PD-L1 in DMs from women with NP and RM were measured by flow cytometry. PD-L1 expression in human villi was determined by quantitative RT-PCR (qRT-PCR) and western blot. An in vitro model consisting of peripheral CD14+ monocytes isolated from women with NP was used. The profile of differentiated macrophages and their phagocytotic activity were then measured by flow cytometry. The mRNA levels of genes potentially underlying macrophage polarization modulated by PD-1 signaling were determined by qRT-PCR. Twelve pregnant mice were included in our in vivo model and underwent different treatment. The embryo resorption rate, and macrophage profile as well as PD-1 expression in murine spleens and uterus were analyzed by flow cytometry.
MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE
Compared with NP, women with RM had elevated percentages of M1 DMs (P < 0.01), and reduced frequencies of M2 DMs (P < 0.05), as well as decreased PD-1 protein expression (P < 0.05) in the DMs. In addition, decreased mRNA and protein levels of PD-L1 expression in placental villi were observed in women with RM (P < 0.001). Using in vitro experiments, compared to the control group, we found that PD-1 activation by recombinant human (rh) PD-L1 Fc (human PD-L1 fused to the Fc region of human IgG1) drove the differentiation of macrophages with immuno-modulatory characteristics (P < 0.01). However, PD-1 blockade promoted dominance of the M1 phenotype (P < 0.01). PD-1 polarized macrophages showed enhanced phagocytic activity (P < 0.01), which was decreased with PD-1 blockade (P < 0.001). Furthermore, PD-1 blockade promoted the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines and interferon regulatory factor (IRF) 5 (P < 0.05), while IRF4 expression was inhibited (P < 0.05). In addition, PD-1 blockade promoted macrophage glycolysis (P < 0.01) and inhibited fatty acid oxidation (P < 0.05). The mRNA expression levels of both phosphoinositide 3-kinase/protein kinase B/mammalian target of rapamycin and mitogen-activated protein kinase/extracellular signal-regulated kinase/extracellular signal-regulated kinase were upregulated (P < 0.05) with PD-1 blockade during DM metabolic reprogramming. Moreover, in vivo mice data showed that PD-1 blockade or deficiency was associated with decreased M2 percentages at the maternal-fetal interface (P < 0.05) and embryo loss (P < 0.05).

LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION
Whether the changes in DM polarization seen in miscarriage tissues are a cause or consequence of the demise of the pregnancy still requires further investigation. In addition, conducting metabolite analysis is required to further measure bioenergetic profiles.
WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS
This is the first study on the role of the PD-1/PD-L1 axis in macrophage polarization during early pregnancy; such exploration enhances our understanding of the physiology of early pregnancy. Our study also indicates that targeting the PD-1 pathway may represent a novel therapeutic strategy to prevent pregnancy loss.

. RHE) over a cooperative catalyst of Au nanoparticles supported on cobalt oxyhydroxide nanosheets (Au/CoOOH). The absolute current can further reach 4.8 A at 2.0 V in a more realistic two-electrode membrane-free flow electrolyzer. Experimental combined with theoretical results indicate that the benzyl alcohol can be enriched at Au/CoOOH interface and oxidized by the electrophilic oxygen species (OH*) generated on CoOOH, leading to higher activity than pure Au. Based on the finding that the catalyst can be reversibly oxidized/reduced at anodic potential/open circuit, we design an intermittent potential (IP) strategy for long-term alcohol electrooxidation that achieves high current density (>250 mA cm
−2
) over 24 h with promoted productivity and decreased energy consumption.
