We present a measurement of the azimuthal asymmetries of two charged pions in the inclusive process e+ e- arrow right pipiX, based on a data set of 62 pb super(-1) at the center-of-mass energy of ...3.65 GeV collected with the BESIII detector. These asymmetries can be attributed to the Collins fragmentation function. We observe a nonzero asymmetry, which increases with increasing pion momentum. As our energy scale is close to that of the existing semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering experimental data, the measured asymmetries are important inputs for the global analysis of extracting the quark transversity distribution inside the nucleon and are valuable to explore the energy evolution of the spin-dependent fragmentation function.

The c-Jun N-terminal kinases (JNKs) constitute one of the three major types of mitogen-activated protein kinases. Previous studies showed that JNK mediates multiple signaling transduction pathways ...implicated in cell proliferation, differentiation, inflammation, stress response and apoptosis in mammals. In the present study, we use goldfish as a model system and demonstrate that JNK kinases are necessary to promote embryonic survival and regulate eye development in vertebrates. During goldfish development, JNK1 and JNK2 are expressed at every stage from cleavage to hatching larvae. JNK3 is turned on at the gastrulation stage and then expressed at similar level to that of JNK2. JNK1 activity remains slightly fluctuated during different developmental stages. Inhibition of JNK activity caused massive apoptosis of blastula cells and significant death of goldfish embryos, which are associated with altered expression of the anti-apoptotic regulator, Mcl-1 and the proapoptotic regulator, Bak. These results provide novel information regarding the mechanisms by which JNKs promote embryonic survival. In addition, the embryos that survived inhibition of JNK activity displayed severe phenotype in the eye with clear microphthalmia and lens coloboma. To confirm that the observed phenotype is derived from JNK activity deficiency, we expressed JNK dominant negative mutant (DNM-JNK) in goldfish. Expression of DNM-JNK also caused similar phenotypes with altered expression of pax-6, Sox-2 and β-crystallin. Together, our results demonstrate that JNKs play important roles in promoting survival of vertebrate embryos and regulating development of vertebrate eye.

Using ( 1310.6 ± 7.0 ) × 106 J / ψ events acquired with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage rings, the decay η ′ → π+ π−μ+μ− is observed for the first time with a significance of 8 σ via the ...process J / ψ → γ η ′ . We measure the branching fraction of η ′ → π+ π−μ+μ− to be B ( η ′ → π+ π−μ+μ− ) = ( 1.97 ± 0.33 ( stat ) ± 0.19 ( syst ) ) × 10−5, where the first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.

We report results on the searches of weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) with sub-GeV masses (mχ) via WIMP-nucleus spin-independent scattering with Migdal effect incorporated. Analysis on ...time-integrated (TI) and annual modulation (AM) effects on CDEX-1B data are performed, with 737.1 kg day exposure and 160 eVee threshold for TI analysis, and 1107.5 kg day exposure and 250 eVee threshold for AM analysis. The sensitive windows in mχ are expanded by an order of magnitude to lower DM masses with Migdal effect incorporated. New limits on σχNSI at 90% confidence level are derived as 2×10−32∼7×10−35 cm2 for TI analysis at mχ∼50–180 MeV/c2, and 3×10−32∼9×10−38 cm2 for AM analysis at mχ∼75 MeV/c2–3.0 GeV/c2.

A search for the charged lepton flavor violating decay J/ψ → e± τ∓ with τ∓ → π∓ π0 ντ is performed with about 10 × 10 9 J/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII. No significant ...signal is observed, and an upper limit is set on the branching fraction B (J/ψ → e± τ∓) < 7.5 × 10−8 at the 90% confidence level. This improves the previously published limit by two orders of magnitude.

We report an amplitude analysis and branching fraction measurement of D+s → K+K−π+ decay using a data sample of 3.19 fb−1 recorded with BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of 4.178 GeV. We ...perform a model-independent partial wave analysis in the low K+K− mass region to determine the K+K− S-wave line shape, followed by an amplitude analysis of our very pure high-statistics sample. With the detection efficiency based on the amplitude analysis results, the absolute branching fraction is measured to be B(D+s → K+K− π+) = (5.47 ± 0.0 8stat ± 0.13sys)%.

The mechanical properties and fracture characteristics of stainless steel clad plates by vacuum hot rolling at different rolling temperature of 1100°C (S1), 1200°C (S2) and 1300°C (S3) are ...investigated in detail. The carburized layer thickness and grain size is gradually increased with the increasing rolling temperature. The sufficient alloy element diffusion, recovery and recrystallization at the bonding temperature of 1300°C lead to the highest interfacial shear strength and the lowest longitudinal tensile strength among the three clad plates. However, the tensile ductility is increased with the increasing rolling temperature, which is attributed to the increased interfacial bonding strength. The strong interface can effectively delay the formation of interfacial delamination crack and premature localized necking, resulting into a prolong uniform plastic deformation stage with a low stress triaxiality. In addition, there are many intergranular tunnel cracks with the length of 50–150µm presented in the carburized layer due to Cr23C6 carbides on the grain boundary, which can effectively toughen the stainless steel clad plates.

We numerically demonstrate that the topological corner states residing in the corners of higher-order topological insulator possess non-Abelian braiding properties. Such topological corner states are ...Dirac fermionic modes other than Majorana zero modes. We claim that Dirac fermionic modes protected by nontrivial topology also support non-Abelian braiding. An analytical description on such non-Abelian braiding is conducted based on the vortex-induced Dirac-type fermionic modes. Finally, the braiding operators for Dirac fermionic modes, especially their explicit matrix forms, are analytically derived and compared with the case of Majorana zero modes.

This study was conducted to determine the effect of dietary supplementation of a low dose of chito-oligosaccharide (COS) on intestinal morphology, immune response, antioxidant capacity, and barrier ...function in weaned piglets. A total of 120 weaned pigs (21 d of age; 7.86 ± 0.22 kg average BW) were randomly assigned (6 pens/diet; 10 pigs/pen) to 2 dietary treatments consisting of a basal diet (negative control) or the basal diet supplemented with COS (30 mg/kg) for a 14-d period. Six randomly selected piglets from each treatment were killed for blood and tissue sampling. No significant differences were observed in ADG, ADFI, and G:F between treatment and the control group. Piglets fed the COS-supplemented diet had greater ( < 0.05) stomach pH than those fed the control diet on d 14 postweaning. Dietary supplementation with COS reduced villus height ( < 0.05) and villus height:crypt depth ( < 0.05) in the ileum. Dietary COS supplementation tended to reduce villus height in the duodenum ( = 0.065) and jejunum ( = 0.058). There was no effect on crypt depth in the intestinal segments of treatment group. Piglets fed the COS-supplemented diet increased ( < 0.05) the number of intraepithelial lymphocytes in duodenum or jejunum and goblet cells of ileum. However, COS decreased ( < 0.05) the number of intraepithelial lymphocytes in ileum of weaned piglets. The concentrations of IL-10 (duodenum, jejunum, and ileum) and secretory immunoglobulin (SIgA; duodenum and ileum) were higher in piglets fed the COS-supplemented diet compared with control ( < 0.05). Dietary COS supplementation reduced ( < 0.05) the concentration of total antioxidant capacity and superoxide dismutase of the jejunum or ileum. The mRNA expression of occludin in the ileum and ZO-1 in jejunum and ileum had a significant change in piglets fed the COS-supplemented diet compared with the control group ( < 0.05). In conclusion, these results indicated that dietary COS supplementation at 30 mg/kg had no effects on promoting growth performance and tended to reduce villus height in the duodenum or jejunum of weaned piglets. The results further showed that supplemental COS at this level may cause an immune and oxidative stress response in small intestine and have compromised the intestinal barrier integrity in weaned piglets. The research will provide guidance on the low dosage of COS supplementation on weaning pigs.
The mechanism of superconductivity in cuprates remains one of the big challenges of condensed matter physics. High-Tc
cuprates crystallize into a layered perovskite structure featuring copper oxygen ...octahedral coordination. Due to the Jahn Teller effect in combination with the strong static Coulomb interaction, the octahedra in high-Tc
cuprates are elongated along the c axis, leading to a 3dx²-y² orbital at the top of the band structure wherein the doped holes reside. This scenario gives rise to 2D characteristics in high-Tc
cuprates that favor d-wave pairing symmetry. Here, we report superconductivity in a cuprate Ba₂CuO4-y, wherein the local octahedron is in a very exceptional compressed version. The Ba₂CuO4-y compound was synthesized at high pressure at high temperatures and shows bulk superconductivity with critical temperature (Tc
) above 70 K at ambient conditions. This superconducting transition temperature is more than 30 K higher than the Tc
for the isostructural counterparts based on classical La₂CuO₄. X-ray absorption measurements indicate the heavily doped nature of the Ba₂CuO4-y superconductor. In compressed octahedron, the 3d3z²-r² orbital will be lifted above the 3dx²-y² orbital, leading to significant 3D nature in addition to the conventional 3dx²-y² orbital. This work sheds important light on advancing our comprehensive understanding of the superconducting mechanism of high Tc
in cuprate materials.
