The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical characteristics of hypervirulent
K. pneumoniae
(hvKP) induced ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) and the microbiological characteristics ...and epidemiology of the hvKP strains. A retrospective study of 49 mechanically ventilated patients with
K. pneumoniae
induced VAP was conducted at a university hospital in China from January 2014 to December 2014. Clinical characteristics and
K. pneumoniae
antimicrobial susceptibility and biofilm formation were analyzed. Genes of capsular serotypes K1, K2, K5, K20, K54 and K57 and virulence factors plasmid

We present empirical metallicity-dependent calibrations of effective temperature against colours for dwarfs of luminosity classes IV and V and for giants of luminosity classes II and III, based on a ...collection from the literature of about two hundred nearby stars with direct effective temperature measurements of better than 2.5 per cent. The calibrations are valid for an effective temperature range 3100–10 000 K for dwarfs of spectral types M5 to A0 and 3100–5700 K for giants of spectral types K5 to G5. A total of 21 colours for dwarfs and 18 colours for giants of bands of four photometric systems, i.e. the Johnson (UBVR
J
I
J
JHK), the Cousins (R
C
I
C), the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (gr) and the Two Micron All Sky Survey (JHK
s), have been calibrated. Restricted by the metallicity range of the current sample, the calibrations are mainly applicable for disc stars (Fe/H ≳ − 1.0). The normalized percentage residuals of the calibrations are typically 2.0 and 1.5 per cent for dwarfs and giants, respectively. Some systematic discrepancies at various levels are found between the current scales and those available in the literature (e.g. those based on the infrared flux method or spectroscopy). Based on the current calibrations, we have re-determined the colours of the Sun. We have also investigated the systematic errors in effective temperatures yielded by the current on-going large-scale low- to intermediate-resolution stellar spectroscopic surveys. We show that the calibration of colour (g − K
s) presented in this work provides an invaluable tool for the estimation of stellar effective temperature for those on-going or upcoming surveys.
Substantial anthropogenic emissions from China have resulted in serious air pollution, and this has generated considerable academic and public concern. The physical transport of air pollutants in the ...atmosphere has been extensively investigated; however, understanding the mechanisms how the pollutant was transferred through economic and trade activities remains a challenge. For the first time, we quantified and tracked China's air pollutant emission flows embodied in interprovincial trade, using a multiregional input-output model framework. Trade relative emissions for four key air pollutants (primary fine particle matter, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and non-methane volatile organic compounds) were assessed for 2007 in each Chinese province. We found that emissions were significantly redistributed among provinces owing to interprovincial trade. Large amounts of emissions were embodied in the imports of eastern regions from northern and central regions, and these were determined by differences in regional economic status and environmental policy. It is suggested that measures should be introduced to reduce air pollution by integrating cross-regional consumers and producers within national agreements to encourage efficiency improvement in the supply chain and optimize consumption structure internationally. The consumption-based air pollutant emission inventory developed in this work can be further used to attribute pollution to various economic activities and final demand types with the aid of air quality models.
•A principle of convective heat transfer enhancement was proposed based on exergy destruction minimization.•An optimal field of longitudinal whirling flow with vortexes was obtained by convective ...heat transfer minimization.•An insert of center-connected awl-shaped slices was studied by numerical simulation and a PIV experiment.
Enhancing convective heat transfer, by strengthening fluid disturbance, is an effective way of raising the utilization efficiency of an energy system. In this study, in order to introduce a principle for convective heat transfer enhancement, a physical quantity called available potential was defined, and an equation of available potential was derived to obtain an expression of local exergy destruction caused by heat transfer and fluid flow. Then, a mathematical model of convective heat transfer optimization was established by adopting adequate objective function and constraint condition based on exergy destruction minimization, and an optimal flow field of longitudinal whirling flow with multi-vortexes was obtained by solving the optimization controlling equations. Finally, through numerical simulation and a PIV experiment, a heat transfer unit consisting of center-connected awl-shaped slices was studied to realize longitudinal whirling flow with multi-vortexes in a tube, which indicated an excellent effect of heat transfer enhancement.

A series of five-component CoCrFeNiNbx high entropy alloys (HEAs) were synthesized to investigate alloying effects of the large atom Nb on the structure and tensile properties. Microstructures of ...these alloys were examined using scanning electron microscopy and the phase evolution was characterized and compared using the ΔHmix–δ and ΔX criteria. It was found that the microstructure changes from the initial single face-centered cubic (FCC) to duplex FCC plus hexagonal close-packed (HCP) structure with additions of Nb. The current alloy system exhibits a hypoeutectic structure and the volume fraction of the Nb-enriched Laves phase with the HCP structure increases with increasing the Nb content, which is mainly responsible for the increment in the yield and fracture strength. Particularly, the Nb0.155 alloy containing a 9.3% Nb-enriched Laves phase exhibits the most promising mechanical properties with the yield strength and plastic strain as high as 321 MPa and 21.3%, respectively. The ΔHmix–δ criteria well describe the phase selection for the thermally treated alloys, while the physical parameter ΔX fails to predict the appearance of the Nb-enriched Laves phase in this alloy system.
•The microstructure evolution of the CoCrFeNi HEA with additions of Nb is characterized.•All the current criteria for predicting the phase formation in HEA failed to depict the Nb-containing alloy system.•The strengthening mechanism of the Nb-containing HEAs is clarified.

lncRNAs play important roles in the epigenetic regulation of carcinogenesis and progression. Previous studies suggest that HOTAIR contributes to gastric cancer (GC) development, and the ...overexpression of HOTAIR predicts a poor prognosis. In this study, we found that HOTAIR was more highly expressed in diffuse-type GC than in intestinal type (P=0.048). In the diffuse type, there is significant relationship between HOTAIR expression and DFS (P<0.001). CDH1 was downregulated in diffuse-type GC tissues (P=0.0007) and showed a negative relationship with HOTAIR (r(2)=0.154, P=0.0354). In addition, HOTAIR knockdown significantly repressed migration, invasion and metastasis both in vitro and vivo and reversed the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition in GC cells. We also showed that HOTAIR recruiting and binding to PRC2 epigenetically represses miR34a, which controls the targets C-Met (HGF/C-Met/Snail pathway) and Snail, thus contributing to GC cell-EMT process and accelerating tumor metastasis. Moreover, it is demonstrated that HOTAIR crosstalk with microRNAs during epigenetic regulation. Our results suggest that HOTAIR acts as an EMT regulator and may be a candidate prognostic biomarker and a target for new therapies in GC patients.
Three CuO/CeO2 catalyst with different morphologies of ceria, namely nanospheres, nanorods and nanocubes, were synthesized and used to catalyze the water-gas shift (WGS) reaction. The reactivity ...tests showed that the Cu supported on the ceria nanospheres exhibited both the highest activity and superior stability when compared with the nanocube and nanorod ceria catalysts. Operando X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray absorption fine structure (XAFS) and diffuse reflectance Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (DRIFTS) methods were used to characterize these catalysts in their working state. High resolution electron microscopy (HRTEM, STEM) was used to look at the local atomic structure and nano-scale morphology. Our results show that the morphology of the ceria support, which can involve different crystal faces and concentrations of defects and imperfections, has a critical impact on the catalytic properties and influences: (1) the dispersion of CuO in the as-synthesized catalyst; (2) the particle size of metallic Cu upon reduction during the WGS reaction, (3) the stability of the metallic Cu upon variations of temperature, and (4) the dissociation of water on the ceria support. The nanosphere ceria catalyst showed an excellent water dissociation capability, the best dispersion of Cu and a strong Cu-Ce interaction, therefore delivering the best performance among the three WGS catalysts. The metallic Cu, which is the active species during the WGS reaction, was more stabilized on the nanospheres than on the nanorods and nanocubes and thus led to a better stability of the nanosphere catalyst than the other two architectures. Each catalyst exhibited a distinctive line-shape in the 800-1600 cm(-1) region of the DRIFTS spectra, pointing to the existence of different types of carbonate or carboxylate species as surface intermediates for the WGS.
As a major component of the LAMOST Galactic surveys, the LAMOST Spectroscopic Survey of the Galactic Anticentre (LSS-GAC) aims to survey a significant volume of the Galactic thin/thick discs and halo ...for a contiguous sky area of over 3400 deg2 centred on the Galactic anticentre (|b| ≤ 30°, 150 ≤ l ≤ 210°), and obtain λλ3700–9000 low-resolution (R ∼ 1800) spectra for a statistically complete sample of ∼3 M stars of all colours down to a limiting magnitude of r ∼ 17.8 mag (to 18.5 mag for limited fields). Together with Gaia, the LSS-GAC will yield a unique data set to advance our understanding of the structure and assemblage history of the Galaxy, in particular its disc(s). In addition to the main survey, the LSS-GAC will also target hundreds of thousands objects in the vicinity fields of M 31 and M 33 and survey a significant fraction (over a million) of randomly selected very bright stars (r ≤ 14 mag) in the Northern hemisphere. During the Pilot and the first year Regular Surveys of LAMOST, a total of 1042 586 750 867 spectra of a signal-to-noise ratio S/N(7450 Å) ≥ 10 S/N(4650 Å) ≥ 10 have been collected. In this paper, we present a detailed description of the target selection algorithm, survey design, observations and the first data release of value-added catalogues (including radial velocities, effective temperatures, surface gravities, metallicities, values of interstellar extinction, distances, proper motions and orbital parameters) of the LSS-GAC.
Microglia and astrocytes in the central nervous system are now recognized as active participants in various pathological conditions such as trauma, stroke, or chronic neurodegenerative disorders. ...Their activation is closely related with the development and severity of diseases. Interestingly, activation of microglia and astrocytes occurs with a spatially and temporarily distinct pattern. The present review explores the cross talk in the process of their activation. Microglia, activated earlier than astrocytes, promote astrocytic activation. On the other hand, activated astrocytes not only facilitate activation of distant microglia, but also inhibit microglial activities. Molecules contributing to their intercommunication include interleukin-1 (IL-1), adenosine triphosphate (ATP), and transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β). A better understanding about the cross talk between activation of microglia and astrocytes would be helpful to elucidate the role of glial cells in pathological conditions, which could accelerate the development of treatment for various diseases.
