Layered transition metal oxide cathodes have been one of the dominant cathodes for lithium‐ion batteries with efficient Li+ intercalation chemistry. However, limited by the weak layered interaction ...and unstable surface, mechanical and chemical failure plagues their electrochemical performance, especially for Ni‐rich cathodes. Here, adopting a simultaneous elemental‐structural atomic arrangement control based on the intrinsic Ni−Co−Mn system, the surface role is intensively investigated. Within the invariant oxygen sublattice of the crystal, a robust surface with the synergistic concentration gradient and layered‐spinel intertwined structure is constructed on the model single‐crystalline Ni‐rich cathode. With mechanical strain dissipation and chemical erosion suppression, the cathode exhibits an impressive capacity retention of 82 % even at the harsh 60 °C after 150 cycles at 1 C. This work highlights the coupling effect of structure and composition on the chemical‐mechanical properties, and the concept will spur more researches on the cathodes that share the same sublattice.

Gametogenesis is a key step in the production of ovules or pollen in higher plants. The sex-determination aspects of gametogenesis have been well characterized in the model plant Arabidopsis. ...However, little is known about this process in androdioecious plants. Tapiscia sinensis Oliv. is a functionally androdioecious tree, with both male and hermaphroditic individuals. Hermaphroditic flowers (HFs) are female-fertile flowers that can produce functional pollen and set fruits. However, compared with male flowers (MFs), the pollen viability and number of pollen grains per flower are markedly reduced in HFs. MFs are female-sterile flowers that fail to set fruit and that eventually drop.
Compared with HF, a notable cause of MF female sterility in T. sinensis is when the early gynoecium meristem is disrupted. During the early stage of HF development (stage 6), the ring meristem begins to form as a ridge around the center of the flower. At this stage, the internal fourth-whorl organ is stem-like rather than carpelloid in MF. A total of 52,945 unigenes were identified as transcribed in MF and HF. A number of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) and metabolic pathways were detected as involved in the development of the gynoecium, especially the ovule, carpel and style. At the early gynoecium development stage, DEGs were shown to function in the metabolic pathways regulating ethylene biosynthesis and signal transduction (upstream regulator), auxin, cytokinin transport and signalling, and sex determination (or flower meristem identity).
Pathways for the female sterility model were initially proposed to shed light on the molecular mechanisms of gynoecium development at early stages in T. sinensis.

T. sinensis, hermaphroditic flowers (HF) and male flowers (MF) experienced a similar development pattern in early flower bud differentiation, including the initiation of tepals and stamens. However, the carpel differentiation of MF and HF proceed in different patterns. In HF, the central zone bulges out and produces a ring meristem on which two to three carpel primordia emerge, which eventually developed into a normal pistil with a stigma, a style, and an ovary. However, in most MF, vestigial pistils are stem‐like (type I), and very few have an empty ovary (type II) or a sterile ovule (type III). Tapiscia sinensis, a rare endemic woody plant with both male and hermaphrodite individuals, is distributed in southern China. Whether T. sinensis is functionally androdioecious is unknown. In this ...study, we compare the male fitness between male and hermaphrodite individuals and perform pollination experiments in different habitats, identify the ability of actual siring of pollen from hermaphrodites and males under natural pollination, and discuss the evolution and maintenance of androdioecy in T. sinensis. Research suggests that flowers and fruits grow synchronously on hermaphrodite plants of T. sinensis from April to June. The males of T. sinensis had more than twice the genetic contribution of hermaphrodites through their male function and the fruit set from male pollination and cross‐pollination was the highest in all of the treatments, whereas that from self‐pollination was the lowest. Additionally, paternity analysis showed that the hermaphroditic pollen could result in siring success under natural pollination. The results showed that T. sinensis is a functionally androdioecious tree, that male individuals might evolve from a hermaphroditic ancestor and that the synchronous growth of flowers and fruit in hermaphrodites might facilitate the evolution and maintenance of androdioecy in T. sinensis.

Quaternary climate and environment oscillations have profoundly shaped the population dynamic history and geographic distributions of current plants. However, how the endangered and rare tree species ...respond to the climatic and environmental fluctuations in the subtropical regions of China in East Asia still needs elucidation. In this study, we collected 36 natural populations of an endangered and rare tree species Magnolia sprengeri Pamp. in subtropical China to determine the demographic history, and modeled the changes of geographic distributions of this species in East Asia based on the MaxEnt ecological niche analyses. In addition, we sequenced three maternally inherited chloroplast DNA fragments (matK, trnH-psbA, and rbcL) for all the natural populations which covered the whole geographic distributions of M. sprengeri. Population genetic analysis showed that the endangered tree species have a low level of chloroplast DNA diversity. However, the genetic variation contribution within populations was greater than that among populations (FST = 0.276), which demonstrated a high level of genetic differentiation. Interestingly, some unique chloroplast DNA haplotypes and higher genetic variations were identified in the Qinling-Daba Mountains, Central China, and Tianmu Mountains of Zhejiang province, East of China in East Asia. Combining with the species distribution modeling, we speculated that these areas might be the potential glacial refugia for the endangered plant M. sprengeri. Phylogeographic analysis demonstrated that the geographic factors (e.g., mountains, rivers, and other isolation barriers) had little effect on the genetic divergence among populations. Ecological niche modeling further revealed that the natural populations of M. sprengeri did not experience significant geographic distribution changes from the last glacial maximum to the present time. These findings are in line with the analysis results of the multimodal mismatch patterns of the chloroplast DNA variations. To protect the endangered species M. sprengeri, in situ and ex situ conservation strategies should be formulated for the natural populations with higher genetic variations.
Tapiscia sinensis Oliv (Tapisciaceae) is an endangered species native to China famous for its androdioecious breeding system. However, there is a lack of genomic and transcriptome data on this ...species. In this study, the Tapiscia sinensis transcriptomes from two types of sex flower buds were sequenced. A total of 97,431,176 clean reads were assembled into 52,169 unigenes with an average length of 1116 bp. Through similarity comparison with known protein databases, 36,662 unigenes (70.27%) were annotated. A total of 10,002 (19.17%) unigenes were assigned to 124 pathways using the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway database. Additionally, 10,371 simple sequence repeats (SSRs) were identified in 8608 unigenes, with 16,317 pairs of primers designed for applications. 150 pairs of primers were chosen for further validation, and the 68 pairs (45.5%) were able to produce clear polymorphic bands. Six polymorphic SSR markers were used to Bayesian clustering analysis of 51 T. sinensis individuals. This is the first report to provide transcriptome information and to develop large-scale SSR molecular markers for T. sinensis. This study provides a valuable resource for conservation genetics and functional genomics research on T. sinensis for future work.

Although Speech Emotion Recognition (SER) is becoming an active research area, the state-of-the-art performance is limited by the scarcity of emotional datasets. The introduction of Multi-Task ...Learning (MTL) which jointly trains multiple relative tasks, can utilize more emotion-related information within limited data, enhancing the SER performance but also increasing the training difficulty. In this paper, we propose a primary-task driven adaptive loss function named as PTDA-Loss to adaptively adjust the task weights in the loss function, aiming to more reasonably allocate the learning resources in the training process and further improve the SER performance. We observe that excessive concern with the auxiliary task can lead to insufficient learning resources for SER, not conducive to SER performance improvement. Inspired by this finding, in PTDA-Loss, we retain the advantage of SER in the whole training process. Meanwhile, the learning resources for the auxiliary task will be appropriately but not over compressed, ensuring the effective learning of useful information from the auxiliary task. To improve the model’s learning ability, furthermore, we first employ several dynamic convolutional layers as the backbone network. Regarding gender recognition and speaker recognition as the auxiliary task respectively, ablation experiments on the IEMOCAP, MSP-IMPROV and MELD datasets prove the rationality and effectiveness of PTDA-Loss. Additionally, comparative experiments demonstrate that our method achieves state-of-the-art performance on the three datasets, further enhancing the SER accuracy.
