Qualitative research ethics in sociology is primarily related to numerous methodological features of qualitative research, the research context and the interaction process of conducting qualitative research, but also to the classical development of ethical codes of sociological associations and broader ethical regulations. Conventionally speaking, ethical issues refer to the protection of research participants and are regulated primarily at the professional and institutional levels in Croatia. However, given the development of research methods, new technologies and social changes involving current ethical regulations, several aspects are problematised and connected in this paper. The paper therefore analyses qualitative research ethics through existing ethical codes in sociology, the application of ethical procedures in research, and the challenges that researchers face in doing so. Ethical regulations that in recent years imply the standardisation of ethical procedures and research practices point to the importance of continuous theoretical and methodological discussions on research ethics, especially in qualitative research. Most methodological literature contains a section on ethical procedures (informed consent, anonymity and confidentiality, risks, etc.) applied in sociological research. Nevertheless, there are arguments that they should be placed within qualitative research ethics in accordance with the features of qualitative research, which can be additionally challenging in sociology in terms of ethics, methodology and research. The paper concludes that the specifics of qualitative research ethics are reflected in the ethical practice that implies a reflexive application of ethical procedures in qualitative research.
S druge strane, njezine metodološke i istraživačke prednosti u istraživanjima brojnih društvenih fenomena upućuju na potrebu razmatranja uloge pristupa životne povijesti u suvremenoj sociološkoj metodologiji.
Although for a long time many researchers tended to focus on quantitative methods and statistical procedures, as well as certain qualitative methods and data sources, over the past years numerous authors have been talking about a growing interest in the life history approach. Its significant beginnings are noted in sociology. Nevertheless, the field of sociology in Croatia still shows no significant interest in the theoretical and methodological discussions as well as the use of life history. Depending on the interests of researchers, life history can be observed through different perspectives, as a theoretical and methodological framework, but also as a research method. It allows different ways of in-depth documentation of individual stories within the social context over a certain period and is suitable for exploring a wide spectrum of phenomena, which points to its methodological power. Like other qualitative research methods, the life history approach faces issues related to its reflexive considerations regarding research design, and other specific methodological and ethical issues. On the other hand, its methodological and research benefits in researching various social phenomena indicate the necessity to reconsider the role of the life history approach in contemporary sociological methodology.

As one of the most prominent social media platforms, Instagram has been present in society for a whole decade now. Since the very emergence of social media, Instagram has been one of the high growing networks, which speaks to its importance and influence. As such, it brings about changes in society on numerous levels. Although it was created for the purpose of sharing photos and videos for the fun of it, being a social network, Instagram also provides opportunities for communication and interaction among users, thus opening a space for exploring various (social) aspects of this platform. The objective of the research was to examine the experiences of young Instagram users from Split, since there has been little research in Croatia on this topic. Having specific research objectives in mind, the authors studied the activity of young people on Instagram and the differences in the communicational-interactional aspects of Instagram with regard to gender. The research was conducted in 2019, within the area of Split and its surroundings, on a convenience sample of 566 respondents. The results of the research have shown that most young people from Split have an Instagram profile. Usually these profiles are set to private, thus it is not surprising that interaction and communication mostly occurs between the user and their friends, family and acquaintances. Regarding the means of communication, young people usually post their own content and/or like and comment on other user’s posts. Although most young people from Split are active participants in this virtual reality, the analysis has noted certain differences according to gender, with women posting and reacting to other people’s posts (via likes and comments) more frequently. At the same time, women are more likely to take their time choosing a perfect background and adjust the pose before taking the photo, as well as edit the photo using filters, which indicates that they pay more attention to the impression they leave on Instagram.

Contemporary social trends such as globalization and technological development affect national cinema as well as world cinema in general. Discussions about national cinema should therefore be placed ...within the context of the nation-state itself and transnationally. The continuity of fi lm industry in Croatia exists from the very beginnings of the fi lm, but it as a product of the cinema that is closely related to social, political and economic circumstances which had multiple implications on its development. The aim of the paper was to examine the features of Croatian national cinema as well as the aspects of its affi rmation and reception, which ultimately enabled understanding of the developmental and integrative factors of Croatian cinema. Insight into the developmental and integrative factors of Croatian cinema presents a wider picture of the problems and perspectives of Croatian national
cinema today. The qualitative approach was used in the research and semistructured interviews were conducted with interviewees closely related to film and film production. The analysis shows diffi culties in developing a specifi c style and achieving greater international visibility. An important moment was the establishment of Croatian Audiovisual Centre which devised a plan for Croatian national cinema and brought fi nancial independence. This consequently led to the rise of investments and quality of fi lms and even to international festival visibility of Croatian cinema. At the beginning of the 21st century Croatian fi lm industry developed infrastructure, provided support for young filmmakers and created the preconditions for quality and innovative film titles.
Even though advertisements represent a world of its own, they are an inevitable part of different kinds of media. The purpose of advertising is not only to promote a product but also to transfer ...messages, values and ideas in order to make emotional connections with brands. By building emotional attachment, advertisers increase and strengthen consumers’ responses. The promoting of the advertisements’ images becomes much more important than promoting the product itself. Nowadays, an increasing interest in representing a human body along with different kinds of products and services has become a commonplace among advertisers. Representation of the body is a socially constructed phenomenon. In other words, social processes shape perceptions of our bodies and these perceptions (re)create human experiences of the body. The authors’ approach includes qualitative discourse analysis of advertisements. The objective was to identify the relationship between the human body and textual messages as integral components of the advertised item taken in consideration, as well as the ways in which they interact with the reader’s overall experience. For this purpose, different advertisements that contain visual and textual messages representing human bodies have been analysed. They were all published in the following lifestyle magazines: Cosmopolitan, Playboy, Men’s Health, during 2012 and 2013. The authors conclude that media representations of a human body as social phenomena perceive value and treat the body in different ways depending on the relationship between the advertisement, the textual message and the human body.
