The number of psi ' events accumulated by the BESIII experiment from March 3 through April 14, 2009, is determined by counting inclusive hadronic events. The result is 106.41x(1.00 plus or minus ...0.81%)x10 super(6). The error is systematic dominant; the statistical error is negligible.
Although 3-dimensional conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT) is the worldwide standard for the treatment of esophageal cancer, intensity modulated radiotherapy (IMRT) improves dose conformality and reduces ...the radiation exposure to normal tissues. We hypothesized that the dosimetric advantages of IMRT should translate to substantive benefits in clinical outcomes compared with 3D-CRT.
An analysis was performed of 676 nonrandomized patients (3D-CRT, n=413; IMRT, n=263) with stage Ib-IVa (American Joint Committee on Cancer 2002) esophageal cancers treated with chemoradiotherapy at a single institution from 1998-2008. An inverse probability of treatment weighting and inclusion of propensity score (treatment probability) as a covariate were used to compare overall survival time, interval to local failure, and interval to distant metastasis, while accounting for the effects of other clinically relevant covariates. The propensity scores were estimated using logistic regression analysis.
A fitted multivariate inverse probability weighted-adjusted Cox model showed that the overall survival time was significantly associated with several well-known prognostic factors, along with the treatment modality (IMRT vs 3D-CRT, hazard ratio 0.72, P<.001). Compared with IMRT, 3D-CRT patients had a significantly greater risk of dying (72.6% vs 52.9%, inverse probability of treatment weighting, log-rank test, P<.0001) and of locoregional recurrence (P=.0038). No difference was seen in cancer-specific mortality (Gray's test, P=.86) or distant metastasis (P=.99) between the 2 groups. An increased cumulative incidence of cardiac death was seen in the 3D-CRT group (P=.049), but most deaths were undocumented (5-year estimate, 11.7% in 3D-CRT vs 5.4% in IMRT group, Gray's test, P=.0029).
Overall survival, locoregional control, and noncancer-related death were significantly better after IMRT than after 3D-CRT. Although these results need confirmation, IMRT should be considered for the treatment of esophageal cancer.

Currently, functional treatment of fracture non-unions and bone loss remains a significant challenge in the field of orthopaedic surgery. Tissue engineering of bone has emerged as a new treatment ...alternative in bone repair and regeneration. Our approach is to combine a polymeric matrix with a cellular vehicle for delivery of bone morphogenetic protein-2 (BMP-2), constructed through retroviral gene transfer. The objective of this study is to develop an osteoinductive, tissue-engineered bone replacement system by culturing BMP-2-producing cells on an osteoconductive, biodegradable, polymeric-ceramic matrix. The hypothesis is that retroviral gene transfer can be used effectively in combination with a biodegradable matrix to promote bone formation. First, we examined the in vitro attachment and growth of transfected BMP-producing cells on a PLAGA–HA scaffold. Second, the bioactivity of the produced BMP in vitro was evaluated using a mouse model. It was found that the polymer-ceramic scaffold supported BMP-2 production, allowing the attachment and growth of retroviral transfected, BMP-2-producing cells. In vivo, the scaffold successfully functioned as a delivery vehicle for bioactive BMP-2, as it induced heterotopic bone formation in a SCID mouse model.

Using the data samples collected in the energy range from 3.773 to 4.600 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we measure the dressed cross sections as a function of center-of-mass ...energy for e(+)e(-) -> K+K- pi(+)pi(-) (pi(0)), K+K-K+K- (pi(0)), pi(+)pi(-) pi(+)pi(-) (pi(0)), and p (p) over bar pi(+)pi(-)(pi(0)). The cross sections for e(+)e(-) -> K+K-K+K- pi(0), p (p) over bar pi(+)pi(-)(pi(0)) are the first measurements. Cross sections for the other five channels are much more precise than previous results in this energy region. We also search for charmonium and charmonium-like resonances, such as the Y(4230), decaying into the same final states. We find evidence of the psi(4040) decaying to pi(+)pi(-) pi(+)pi(-) pi(0) with a statistical significance of 3.6 sigma. Upper limits are provided for other decays since no clear signals are observed.

This study constructed a genetically engineered
Escherichia coli JM109 which simultaneously expressed nickel transport system and metallothionein to remove and recover Ni
2+ from aqueous solution. ...Bioaccumulation process was rapid and followed linearized Langmuir isotherm. A more than six-fold increase of Ni
2+ binding capacity was obtained by genetically engineered
E. coli cells compared with original host
E. coli cells. A pH assay showed genetically engineered
E. coli cells accumulated Ni
2+ effectively over a broad range of pH (4–10). The presence of 1000
mg/L Na
+ and Ca
2+, or 50
mg/L Cd
2+ or Pb
2+ did not have a significant effect on Ni
2+ bioaccumulation, while Mg
2+, Hg
2+ and Cu
2+ posed a severe adverse influence on Ni
2+ uptake by genetically engineered
E. coli. Furthermore, genetically engineered
E. coli cells did not require extra nutrients for Ni
2+ bioaccumulation.

To discuss the treatment, pathological subtypes and recurrence of sinonasal chondrosarcoma, and to identify the prognostic factors.
Between January 1994 and May 2018, 47 patients with sinonasal ...chondrosarcoma who were treated in Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital, Shanghai Medwal College, Fudan University were retrospectively reviewed, including 19 males and 28 females, aging from 7 months to 71 years old, with a median age of 38 years old. The clinical symptoms, location of tumor, surgical method, pathological subtype, recurrence and prognosis were collected and analyzed. Kaplan-Meier method was used to calculate the disease-specific survival rate, disease-free survival rate and draw survival curve. Log Rank was used to analyze the prognostic factors. Cox regression was used for multivariate analysis.
Except for one patient who gave up treatment after tumor biopsy, other 46 patients underwent radical resection, including 31 cases of endoscopic resection and 15 cases of extranasal approach resection. Thirty-n
Schizophrenia is a serious mental disorder with considerable somatic and psychiatric morbidity. It is unclear whether comorbid health conditions predominantly arise due to shared genetic risk or ...consequent to having schizophrenia. To explore the contribution of genetic risk for schizophrenia, we analysed the effect of schizophrenia polygenic risk scores (PRS) on a broad range of health problems in 406 929 individuals with no schizophrenia diagnosis from the UK Biobank. Diagnoses were derived from linked health data including primary care, hospital inpatient records, and registers with information on cancer and deaths. Schizophrenia PRS were generated and tested for associations with general health conditions, 16 ICD10 main chapters, and 603 diseases using linear and logistic regressions. Higher schizophrenia PRS was significantly associated with poorer overall health ratings, more hospital inpatient diagnoses, and more unique illnesses. It was also significantly positively associated with 4 ICD10 chapters: mental disorders; respiratory diseases; digestive diseases; and pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium, but negatively associated with musculoskeletal disorders. Thirty-one specific phenotypes were significantly associated with schizophrenia PRS, and the 19 novel findings include several musculoskeletal diseases, respiratory diseases, digestive diseases, varicose veins, pituitary hyperfunction, and other peripheral nerve disorders. These findings extend knowledge of the pleiotropic effect of genetic risk for schizophrenia and offer insight into how some conditions often comorbid with schizophrenia arise. Additional studies incorporating the genetic basis of hormone regulation and involvement of immune mechanisms in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia may further elucidate the biological mechanisms underlying schizophrenia and its comorbid conditions.
