Wireless sensor nodes have restricted computational resources, and are always deployed in a harsh, unattended or hostile environment. Therefore, network security represents a challenging task. This ...work presents a public-key based pre-distribution scheme with time-position nodes for simultaneous exchange of secure keys. The proposed defend attack and key management mechanism for sensor network applications can successfully handle sink mobility and can continually deliver data to neighboring nodes and sinks. Simulation results indicate that the proposed mechanism can reduce energy consumption and extend the average network lifetime by about 25%.
An unusual nanorod growth phenomenon is described. Indium sesquioxide (In
2O
3) nanorods with diameter of 20
nm and length up to several hundreds nanometers were formed on the surface of commercial ...anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membranes through calcination of InCl
3·4H
2O at 500
°C. The growth of In
2O
3 in the form of short rods, instead of the particulates commonly encountered in calcination processes, was believed to be induced by the thin frame of the net-shape structure on the AAO membrane surface. The particulate form of In
2O
3 was obtained in the absence of the net-shape structure or in the presence of non-net-shape structure. Photoluminescence (PL) measurement at room temperature showed two emission peaks at 405 and 462
nm, with the former attributable to the near band edge emission of In
2O
3 and the latter resulting from the common oxygen deficiency in In
2O
3. X-ray diffraction and electron diffraction patterns indicated that the In
2O
3 nanorods were in a polycrystalline cubic phase. The unusual growth mechanism of In
2O
3 nanorods offers a simple and convenient alternative synthetic route for one-dimensional structures of In
2O
3 and possibly other materials.

Characteristics of ZnO-based MCs with vacuum Rabi splitting of 72 meV are demonstrated. It is found that only the LPBs can be observed in ZnO MCs since the Rabi splitting pushes UPBs into scattering ...absorption.
An optimal generation dispatch strategy method while considering CO 2 emissions is presented in this paper. Firstly, different CO 2 equivalent models for fuel generated thermal units are derived. ...Secondly, the Cost-CO 2 emission Tradeoff Curve (CCTC) and Incremental Cost for CO 2 Reduction (ICCR) curve, are introduced to assess the impact of CO 2 emissions on power generation costs. Incorporating these two indexes, the single-objective and bi-objective programming methods are employed to establish a generation dispatch strategy. The salient feature of the strategy allows the decision-maker to consider both environmental and economic factors at the same time. Since generation dispatch belongs to large-scale non-linear planning problems, this study employs a particle swarm approach with novel coding scheme for generation dispatch solution, which can quickly find an optimal solution with higher probability. Finally, taking the 27-unit system from Taiwan power company as an example, simulation result of the study reveals that the proposed dispatch strategy can effectively take into consideration CO 2 reduction impact on cost during off-peak, half-peak and peak load conditions to achieve environmental protection and economic purpose.
Liver microsomal steroid 5-alpha-reduction is catalyzed by a NADPH-dependent enzyme system. The requirement of NADPH-cytochrome P-450 reductase to shuttle reduction equivalents from NADPH to steroid ...5-alpha-reductase was investigated using an inhibitory antibody against NADPH-cytochrome P-450 reductase. This antibody preparation inhibited cytochrome c reduction in microsomes from female rat liver with an I50 of 0.75 mg antibody/mg of microsomal protein. Benzphetamine N-demethylation and testosterone 6-beta-hydroxylation, two cytochrome P-450-mediated oxidative reactions, were inhibited by the antibody. On the other hand, testosterone 5-alpha-reductase was not affected by the antibody. These results suggest that NADPH-cytochrome P-450 reductase is not an obligatory component of the liver microsomal steroid 5-alpha-reduction.
To real-time monitor the cell viability an important task in cell culturing associated applications. The bioimpedance spectroscopy is one of the useful techniques for this study. In this paper, a ...culture dish with an electrode-array is designed for the bioimpedance based cellular characterization. The electrode-array containing 32 electrodes is firstly fabricated using the Micro-Electro-Mechanical-System (MEMS) technology, and then attached on the inner side of culture dish. Two types of current patterns of so-called the opposite and adjacent current patterns are then applied for the performance assessment of the proposed electrode-array. From the experimental results, the gap between the electrodes and the width of electrodes are shown to be very homogenous. The proposed culture dish with an electrode-array is demonstrated to be feasible in bioimpedance spectroscopic measurement of cellular electrical property.
This paper presents a novel small-size dual-band metal-strip antenna promising to operate as an internal laptop antenna for WLAN operation in the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands has been proposed, fabricated and ...tested. The antenna is especially suited to be employed in the narrow spacing between the top edge of the display panel and the casing of the laptop computer. The antenna is formed by using two inverted-L metal strips, including one driven strip and one parasitic shorted strip, stacked together to achieve a compact configuration, which is different from the traditional shorted T-shaped monopole antenna or planar inverted-F antenna. This compact configuration leads to a small lateral length of 20 mm for the proposed antenna. The antennapsilas two resonant modes can be easily fine-adjusted to cover the desired operating bands. For the fabricated prototype studied in the paper, good radiation characteristics over the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands have been obtained. It is perspective that the proposed antenna will become a promising internal antenna for 2.4/5 GHz WLAN operation for laptop computer applications.
Electrical bio-electrical impedance spectroscopy (EBIS) could be used to evaluation the electrical proprieties of tissues. In this study, we used the radiation enteropathy of rats as the model, ...measured their EBIS, and solved the electrical prosperities of the tissue by three-element model optimization. The results demonstrated that the solution is associated with the tissue injury score. This method could be a quick evaluation for the tissue status that realizes the concept of electrical biopsy.

In this thesis, we implement a cable modem system which consists
of a cablemodem, a headend controller, a bandwidth allocator, a
network management software, and a telephone return ...solution. In
addition, we propose a novelmedium access protocol - Group
Pipeline Polling ( GPP ) for the data over cable application.
According to simulation result, GPP has similar performanceto
IEEE 802.14 MAC protocol, and is much simpler to implement.
