Ziziphi Spinosae Semen (ZSS) is a valued seed renowned for its sedative and sleep-enhancing properties. However, the price increase has been accompanied by adulteration. In this study, chromaticity analysis and Fourier transform near-infrared (FT-NIR) combined with multivariate algorithms were employed to identify the adulteration and quantitatively predict the adulteration ratio. The findings suggested that the utilization of chromaticity extractor was insufficient for identification of adulteration ratio. The raw spectrum of ZMS and HAS adulterants extracted by FT-NIR was processed by SNV + CARS and 1d + SG + ICO respectively, the average accuracy of machine learning classification model was improved from 77.06 % to 97.58 %. Furthermore, the R2 values of the calibration and prediction set of the two quantitative prediction regression models of adulteration ratio are greater than 0.99, demonstrating excellent linearity and predictive accuracy. Overall, this study demonstrated that FT-NIR combined with multivariate algorithms provided a significant approach to addressing the growing issue of ZSS adulteration.

Amino-terminated ionic liquid assisted multiphoton photoreduction (IL-MPR) was developed for the direct writing of subwavelength gold nanostructures in AuCl sub(4) super(-) ions aqueous solution by ...femtosecond laser. It was revealed that the carbon chain length was crucial for morphology and size control of gold nanostructures. A 228 nm width of gold nanostructure, which was beyond the optical diffraction limit, was fabricated by the matching between IL and the power and scanning speed of the laser beam. The measured conductivity is of the same order as that of bulk gold. Furthermore, we successfully fabricated a U-shaped terahertz planar metamaterial whose spectral response is consistent with the theoretical expectation. The IL-MPR nanofabrication protocol is expected to play an important role in the fabrication of fine metallic micro/nanostructures for applications in microelectromechanical systems, nanoelectronics and nanophotonics.
We have successfully prepared gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) with flower-like and spherical morphology through multi-photon photoreduction (MPR) of an aqueous solution of HAuCl(4) and (2-hydroxyethyl) ...trimethylammonium glycinate (HETMAGly) ionic liquid (IL) through the use of a femtosecond laser. The results of (1)H NMR and UV-Vis absorption indicated that AuNPs were produced from the photoreduction of the Gly-Au(iii) complex. Spherical AuNPs of about 2.5 nm were obtained on the solution when irradiated for 2 h, then aggregated into flower-like AuNPs of several tens of nanometers assisted by the IL with an increase in the irradiation time. Furthermore, precipitates of spherical AuNPs with the size of around 15 nm were formed after being irradiated for 6 h. The mechanisms of the MPR reaction and controlled growth of AuNPs have also been discussed.
The relationship between integrin beta 4 (ITGB4) expression and laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) remains unclarified. The object of the present study was to explore the clinical significance ...and potential molecular mechanism of ITGB4 in LSCC. The protein level of ITGB4 was significantly higher in 46 LSCC patients than in 26 non-LSCC tissues detected by in-house immunohistochemistry. Consistently, ITGB4 mRNA level was also greatly upregulated based on microarray and RNA-seq data (standard mean difference, SMD = 1.62, 95 % CI: 1.23–2.00). And the area under curves (AUC) of summary receiver operator characteristic (SROC) was 0.87 (95 % CI: 0.84–0.90) based on 172 cases of LSCC and 59 cases of non-cancerous controls. Ninety genes were intersected by the ITGB4 related genes and LSCC differential expressed genes (DEGs) from all available microarray and RNA-seq datasets. Based on Gene Ontology (GO) analysis, the top terms of biological process (BP), cellular component (CC) and molecular function (MF) for the 90 ITGB4 related DEGs were extracellular matrix organization, basement membrane and extracellular matrix structural constituent, respectively. The Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment analysis showed that ITGB4 related DEGs mainly participated in the pathways of ECM-receptor interaction, Focal adhesion and Small cell lung cancer. Moreover, the Protein-Protein Interaction (PPI) network indicated that ITGA3, ITGA5, ITGB4, MET, LAMA3, and COL4A1 might be the core genes of LSCC development related to ITGB4. In conclusion, high ITGB4 expression may lead to the occurrence and development of LSCC via various signaling pathways.

Approximately 500,000 new head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) cases are detected every year around the world, and its incidence ranks sixth among all cancer types globally. Among these ...cases, oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) are HNSCC subtypes with high incidence rates, especially in China. The present study examines the association between the apolipoprotein L1 (APOL1) mRNA and protein expression and clinical parameters in HNSCC. The two most common types (oral and larynx) of HNSCC were selected for subgroup analyses. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was used to detect APOL1 protein expression levels in HNSCC clinical specimens. It was demonstrated that APOL1 protein expression in 221 cases of HNSCC was higher compared with that in normal tissues. Consistent upregulation of APOL1 protein was also found in subgroups of OSCC and LSCC. Through mining the ArrayExpress, The Cancer Genome Atlas and the Gene Expression Omnibus databases, microarrays and RNA sequencing data for HNSCC were retrieved, which were used to analyze APOL1 mRNA expression levels. The results showed that APOL1 expression was higher in both OSCC and LSCC subtypes, as well as in HNSCC, compared with that in non-cancerous squamous epithelium. The summary receiver operating characteristic analysis showed that APOL1 had potential as a diagnostic biomarker for HNSCC, OSCC and LSCC. Thus, upregulation of APOL1 may contribute to the tumorigenesis of HNSCC.

Background
Ventricular septal rupture (VSR) is a type of cardiac rupture, usually complicated by acute myocardial infarction (AMI), with a high mortality rate and often poor prognosis. The aim of our ...study was to investigate the factors influencing the long-term prognosis of patients with VSR from different aspects, comparing the evaluation performance of the Gensini score, Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score and European Heart Surgery Risk Assessment System II (EuroSCORE II) score systems.
Methods
This study retrospectively enrolled 188 patients with VSR between Dec 9, 2011 and Nov 21, 2021at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University. All patients were followed up until Jan 27, 2022 for clinical data, angiographic characteristics, echocardiogram outcomes, intraoperative, postoperative characteristics and major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) (30-day mortality, cardiac readmission). Cox proportional hazard regression analysis was used to explore the predictors of long-term mortality.
Results
The median age of 188 VSR patients was 66.2 ± 9.1 years and 97 (51.6%) were males, and there were 103 (54.8%) patients in the medication group, 34 (18.1%) patients in the percutaneous transcatheter closure (TCC) group, and 51 (27.1%) patients in the surgical repair group. The average follow-up time was 857.4 days. The long-term mortality of the medically managed group, the percutaneous TCC group, and the surgical repair group was 94.2, 32.4, and 35.3%, respectively. Conclusion
Patients with AMI combined with VSR have a poor prognosis if not treated surgically, surgical repair after 2 weeks of VSR is a better time. In addition, EuroSCORE II can be used as a scoring system to assess the prognosis of patients with VSR.
BackgroundOne-day outpatient health management has been applied to treat gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and prevent further complications. However, the relationships between one-day outpatient ...health management and adverse pregnancy outcomes remain ambiguous, because of limited evidence. We analyzed the effects of one-day outpatient health management on premature birth, macrosomia and low-birth-weight infants in patients with GDM. MethodsWe retrospectively enrolled pregnant women with GDM who delivered at Guiyang Maternal and Child Health Hospital between 2019 and 2021. Patients could voluntarily choose to participate in either the general outpatient health education or a one-day outpatient health management. Data on demographic and clinical characteristics were collected and pregnancy outcomes ascertained. Logistic regression analysis was used to detect the potential relationship between one-day outpatient health management and adverse pregnancy outcomes including preterm birth, macrosomia, and low-birth-weight infants. GDM, preterm birth, low birth weight and macrosomia was diagnosed according to the criteria established by Obstetrics and Gynecology (9th edition). ResultsA total of 3,249 patients with GDM were included, and 798 (24.56%) patients participated in the one-day outpatient health management. Statistically significant differences were observed in the maternal age (P<0.05) and gravidity (P<0.001) between the study and control groups. The incidences of premature birth, low-birth-weight infant, and macrosomia in patients attending the one-day outpatient service were 9.6%, 8.1%, and 4.5%, while the incidences of those who did not attend the one-day outpatient service were 12.4%, 11.1%, and 7.5%. After adjusting for maternal age, ethnic groups, body mass index (BMI) before pregnancy, family history of diabetes, history of abnormal pregnancy, history of polycystic ovary syndrome, gravidity, hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism, multivariate logistic regression analyses showed that this one-day outpatient health management was a protective factor for premature birth odds ratio (OR) 0.751, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.576-0.981, macrosomia (OR 0.567, 95% CI: 0.385-0.834) and low-birth-weight infants (OR 0.699, 95% CI: 0.522-0.937). ConclusionsThe degree of acceptance of patients with GDM to a one-day outpatient health management is still low. This one-day outpatient health management may reduce the incidence of adverse pregnancy outcomes in women with GDM to a certain extent.
Transducin-like enhancer of Split3 (TLE3) serves as a transcriptional corepressor during cell differentiation and shows multiple roles in different kinds of cancers. Recently, TLE3 together with many ...other genes involved in Wnt/β-catenin pathway were detected hyper-methylated in colorectal cancer (CRC). However, the potential role and the underlying mechanism of TLE3 in CRC progression remain scarce.
Gene expression profiles were analyzed in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) microarray dataset of 41 normal colorectal intestine tissues and 465 CRC tissues. Western blot and Real-time Quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) were respectively performed to detect protein and mRNA expression in 8 pairs of CRC tissue and matched adjacent normal mucosa. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) was conducted to evaluate TLE3 protein expression in 105 paraffin-embedded, archived human CRC tissues from patients, whose survival data were analyzed with Kaplan-Meier method. In vitro experiments including MTT assay, colony formation assay, and soft agar formation assay were used to investigate the effects of TLE3 on CRC cell growth and proliferation. Additionally, subcutaneous tumorigenesis assay was performed in nude mice to confirm the effects of TLE3 in vivo. Furthermore, gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) was run to explore potential mechanism of TLE3 in CRC, and then we measured the distribution of CRC cell cycle phases and apoptosis by flow cytometry, as well as the impacts of TLE3 on MAPK and AKT signaling pathways by Western blot and RT-qPCR.
TLE3 was significantly down-regulated in 465 CRC tissues compared with 41 normal tissues. Both protein and mRNA expressions of TLE3 were down-regulated in CRC compared with matched adjacent normal mucosa. Lower expression of TLE3 was significantly associated with poorer survival of patients with CRC. Besides, knock down of TLE3 promoted CRC cell growth and proliferation, while overexpression of TLE3 showed suppressive effects. Furthermore, overexpression of TLE3 caused G1-S phase transition arrest, inhibition of MAPK and AKT pathways, and up-regulation of p21Cip1/WAF1 and p27Kip1.
This study indicated that TLE3 repressed CRC proliferation partly through inhibition of MAPK and AKT signaling pathways, suggesting the possibility of TLE3 as a biomarker for CRC prognosis.
