Chemotherapy constitutes one of the chief supplementary methods in the treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). However, the appearance of drug resistance often causes failure of chemotherapy. ...For overcoming drug resistance, it is of great importance to screen drug-resistant associated genes so as to identify potential molecular targets. This study was designed to establish a drug-resistant cell line from a human nasopharyngeal carcinoma cell line CNE2, and to screen human nasopharyngeal carcinoma drug-resistant genes by a new strategy based on improved subtractive hybridization.
The drug-resistant cell line was established by a program of treating the human nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells CNE2 in the medium with repeated sharp high and then low but gradually increasing concentration of cisplatin. Drug sensitivity was measured by MTT assay. Fluorescence activated cell analysis(FACS) was employed for determining the concentration of fluorescence dye rhodamine 123 within the cells. Objective: To identify compounds that may be responsible for catnip response of Actinidia macrosperma, and compare chemical compositions in the wild and in vitro regenerated plants. Methods: GC-MS ...and relative retention indices with n-alkanes as reference points were used for compound identification, and component relative percentage was calculated based on GC peak areas without using correction factors. Results: There are 28 compounds (92.72%) and 15 compounds (93.88%) identified in the essential oils from the wild and regenerated plants, respectively. Dihydronepetalactone, iridomyrmecin, and dihydroactinidiolide, which are believed to be attractive to felines, are present in both wild and regenerated plants. Actinine was not detected, and beta-pheylethyl alcohol was only present in wild plant, in addition, short-chain enol derivatives, messengers in chemical communication, are commonly present in wild plant of A. macrosperma, but absent in regenerated one. Conclusion: Dihydronepetalactone, iridomyrmecin, and dihydroactinidiolide are responsible for the catnip response ofA. macrosperma.

Searching for more safe and effective agents for HIV treatments is still an urgent topic worldwide.Based on our continuous modifications on the benzophenone derivatives as HIV-1 reverse ...transcriptase(RT)inhibitors,a new template bearing N-phenylbenzenesulfonamide(PBSA) structure was designed to enhance the interactions with HIV-1 RT.In this manuscript,a series of PBSA derivatives were synthesized and evaluated for their anti-HIV-1 activity. The preliminary test showed that these compounds were potent to inhibit wild-type HIV-1 with EC_(50) values ranging of 0.105-14.531 μmol/L.In particular, compound 13 f not only has high anti-HIV-1 activity(0.108 μmol/L),but also possesses low toxicity with a Tl value of 1816.6.Furthermore,the major interactions of the inhibitor 13 f with HIV-1 RT were also investigated using the molecular modelling. Our discovered structure-activity relationships(SARs) of these analogues may serve as an important clue for further optimizations.

Background Spontaneous attack of variant angina (VA) is a unique component of coronary artery disease (CAD), and associated with severe cardiac events. However, no data are available regarding sex ...differences in Chinese patients with spontaneous attacks of VA. Accordingly, the present retrospective study was initiated to evaluate the Clinical characteristics of Chinese female patients with spontaneous attacks of VA. Methods From January 2003 to January 2008, a total of 209 patients were diagnosed to have had a spontaneous attack of VA at Fu Wai Hospital. Of them, 27 were female, and their clinical findings were collected and compared with male patients for aspects of risk factors, clinical features and angiographical findings. Results Spontaneous attacks of VA was relatively uncommon in female (12.9%) compared with male patients. The female patients were less likely to have a history of smoking (14.8% vs. 79.7%, P 〈0.001), more likely to have a family history of CAD (33.3% vs. 11.0%, P 〈0.01), and to have had a greater incidence of ventricular fibrillation during attack (11.1% vs. 2.2%, P 〈0.05). There were no significant differences in other characteristics between the two groups. Conclusion Chinese female patients who experienced a spontaneous attack of VA had the characteristics of less smokina history, more family history of CAD and higher occurrence of ventricular fibrillation than male patients.
Recombinant adeno-associated virus (rAAV) serotype 2, 3 and 8 vectors are the most promising liver- tropic AAV serotype vectors. Liver diseases are significant problems in China. However, to date, ...few studies on AAV neutralizing antibodies (Nabs) were working with the Chinese population or with the rAAV3 vectors. The present study aimed to determine the prevalence of Nabs in Chinese population against wild-type AAV2, AAV3 and AAV8 capsids as well as additional two AAV3 variants. In addition, we performed a preliminary analysis to investigate the potential influence of traditional Chinese medicine body constitutions on AAV Nabs. Our work demonstrated that the majority of healthy Chinese subjects were positive for AAV Nabs, with the order of AAV2 〉 AAV3 = AAVLK03 〉 AAV8. There was no difference between: 1)AAV3 and its variants; 2) male and female subjects; and 3) different age cohorts (〈 35, 36- 50, and 〉 51 years old). People in the Qi-deficiency constitution had significantly increased AAV8 Nabs than people in the Gentleness constitution. Our studies may have impact on the future clinical design of AAV-based gene therapy in the Chinese population.

This unique book offers a timely and insightful look into China's present energy situation and the emerging challenges of balancing energy supply and demand over the forthcoming decades. It presents ...a holistic analysis of the growing pressures on the energy system as a result of the country's dynamic socio-economic progress. The volume considers current hot topics and will be useful as a reference for those aspiring to understand more about what is happening in China's energy sector today.
There exist multiple functions of polypeptide molecules. Both a polypeptide molecule interacting with one receptor, and distinct domains of the molecule interacting with different receptors could ...induce different intracellular signal transduction to elicit multiple functions. This review highlights the distinct domains of the polypeptide molecule interacting with different receptors to elicit multiple functions. It includes distinct domains, different receptor mechanisms, and different signal transduction of the polypeptide molecule.
