Purpose To develop and test functions for predicting the preference-based SF-6D index scores from the SF-8 health survey. Methods This study was a secondary analysis of data collected in a population ...health survey in which respondents (n = 7,529) completed both the SF-36 and the SF-8 questionnaires. We examined seven ordinary least-square estimators for their performance in predicting SF-6D scores from the SF-8 at both the individual and the group levels. Results In general, all functions performed similarly well in predicting SF-6D scores, and the predictions at the group level were better than predictions at the individual level. At the individual level, 42.5–51.5 % of prediction errors were smaller than the minimally important difference (MID) of the SF-6D scores, depending on the function specifications, while almost all prediction errors of the tested functions were smaller than the MID of SF-6D at the group level. At both individual and group levels, the tested functions predicted lower than actual scores at the higher end of the SF-6D scale. Conclusions Our study developed functions to generate preference-based SF-6D index scores from the SF-8 health survey, the first of its kind. Further research is needed to evaluate the performance and validity of the prediction functions.

Using (1.0087 & PLUSMN; 0.0044) x 1010 J=iy events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring, the process E0n & RARR; E-p is studied, where the E0 baryon is produced in ...the process J=iy & RARR; E0E over bar 0 and the neutron is a component of the 9Be, 12C, and 197Au nuclei in the beam pipe. A clear signal is observed with a statistical significance of 7.1u. The cross section of the reaction E0 + 9Be & RARR; E- + p + 8Be is determined to be u(E0 + 9Be & RARR; E- + p + 8Be) = (22.1 & PLUSMN; 5.3stat & PLUSMN; 4.5sys) mb at the E0 momentum of 0.818 GeV=c, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. No significant H-dibaryon signal is observed in the E-p final state. This is the first study of hyperon-nucleon interactions in electron-positron collisions and opens up a new direction for such research.

Using 2.93 fb(-1) of e(+)e(-) collision data taken with the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV, the observation of the D-0 -> K-1 (1270)(-)e(+)nu(e) semileptonic decay is ...presented. The statistical significance of the decay D-0 -> K-1 (1270)e(+)nu(e) is greater than 10 sigma. The branching fraction of D-0 -> K-1 (1270)(-)e(+)nu(e) is measured to be (1.09 +/- 0.13(-0.16)(+0.09) +/- 0.12) x 10(-3). Here, the first uncertainty is statistical, the second is systematic, and the third originates from the assumed branching fraction of K-1 (1270)(-) -> K-pi(+)pi(-). The fraction of longitudinal polarization in D-0 -> K-1 (1270)(-)e(+)nu(e) is determined for the first time to be 0.50 +/- 0.19(stat )+/- 0.08(syst).

With data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring at center-of-mass energies from 4.009 to 4.420 GeV, the process e(+)e(-) -> gamma X(3872) is observed for ...the first time with a statistical significance of 6.3 sigma. The measured mass of the X(3872) is (3871.9 +/- 0.7(stat) +/- 0.2(syst)) MeV/c(2), in agreement with previous measurements. Measurements of the product of the cross section sigmae(+)e(-) -> gamma X(3872) and the branching fraction B X(3872) -> pi(+)pi(-)J/psi at center-of-mass energies 4.009, 4.229, 4.260, and 4.360 GeV are reported. Our measurements are consistent with expectations for the radiative transition process Y(4260) -> gamma X(3872).

Background
Breath analysis of propofol is a potential noninvasive method for approximating the plasma propofol concentration. There have been various reported techniques for measuring the exhaled ...propofol concentration at steady state; however, the propofol concentration undergoes marked changes during clinical anesthesia. Therefore, this study investigated the use of membrane inlet‐ion mobility spectrometry (MI‐IMS) to monitor exhaled propofol discontinuously and continuously during propofol anesthesia.
Methods
The study included 19 patients of American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status I or II. In experiment I (discontinuous study), breath and blood samples were collected discontinuously, with stable target propofol concentrations of 2.8 μg/ml, 3.2 μg/ml, 3.5 μg/ml, and 3.8 μg/ml. In experiment II (continuous study), propofol concentration was maintained at 3.5 μg/ml after induction, and exhaled breath was collected continuously every 3 min during propofol infusion. Relationships of the exhaled propofol concentration with the plasma propofol concentration, measured by high‐performance liquid chromatography and the continuously measured bispectral (BIS) index were investigated.
Results
Comparison of the exhaled and plasma propofol concentrations revealed a bias ± precision of 2.1% ± 14.6% (95% limits of agreement: − 26.5–30.7%) in experiment I and − 10.4% ± 13.2 (− 36.3–15.4%) in experiment II. In both experiments, exhaled propofol concentrations measured by MI‐IMS were consistent with, the propofol effect represented by the BIS index.
Conclusions
MI‐IMS may be a suitable method to predict plasma propofol concentration online during propofol anesthesia. Monitoring exhaled propofol may improve the safety of propofol anesthesia.
