Abstract
BACKGROUND
While maximizing extent of resection (EOR) is associated with longer survival in lower-grade glioma (LGG) patients, the number of cases remains insufficient in determining a EOR ...threshold to elucidate the clinical benefits, especially in IDH-wild-type LGG patients.
OBJECTIVE
To identify the effects of EOR on the survival outcomes of IDH-wild-type LGG patients.
METHODS
IDH-wild-type LGG patients were retrospectively reviewed. The effect of EOR and other predictor variables on overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) was analyzed using Cox regression models and the Kaplan-Meier method.
RESULTS
A total of 94 patients (median OS: 48.9 mo; median follow-up: 30.6 mo) were included in this study. In the multivariable Cox regression analysis, postoperative residual volume was associated with prolonged OS (HR = 2.238; 95% confidence interval CI, 1.130-4.435; P = .021) and PFS (HR = 2.075; 95% CI, 1.113-3.869; P = .022). Thresholds at a minimum EOR of 97.0% or a maximum residue of 3.0 cm3 were necessary to impact OS positively. For the telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT)p-wild-type group, such an association was absent. Significant differences in survival existed between the TERTp-wild-type and mutant patients who underwent relatively incomplete resections (residual ≥2.0 cm3 + TERTp wild type: median OS of 62.6 mo 95% CI: 39.7-85.5 mo; residual ≥2.0 cm3 + TERTp mutant: median OS of 20.0 mo 95% CI:14.6-25.4 mo).
CONCLUSION
Our results support the core role of maximal safe resection in the treatment of IDH-wild-type LGGs, especially for IDH-wild-type + TERTp-mutant LGGs. Importantly, the survival benefits of surgery could only be elucidated at a high EOR cut-off point.
Soil organic matter (SOM) is a key factor for evaluating soil fertility. Rapidly monitoring organic matter content in desert soil can provide a scientific basis for the rational development and ...utilization of reserve arable land resources. Although spectral inversion accuracy for SOM under laboratory-controlled conditions is high, it is time-consuming and costly compared to the in situ spectroscopic determination method. However, in situ spectroscopy causes losses in accuracy due to interference from external environmental factors (e.g., the surface roughness of soil, changes in weather conditions, atmospheric water vapor, etc.). Therefore, reducing or removing the interference of external environmental factors to improve the accuracy of in situ spectroscopy for estimating SOM is challenging. In this study, visible and near-infrared (Vis-NIR) in situ spectral data were collected from 135 topsoil (0–20 cm) samples in a desert area of northwestern China, and organic matter content was measured. Three spectral pre-processing methods—the standard normal transform (SNV), reciprocal logarithm (log(1/R)) and normalization (NOR)—combined with three feature variable selection methods—the particle swarm algorithm (PSO), ant colony algorithm (ACO) and simulated annealing (SA) algorithm—were used to filter the spectral feature bands of SOM, and then partial least squares regression (PLSR), a back propagation neural network (BPNN) and a convolutional neural network (CNN) were used to construct the estimation models of SOM. The results indicated that the SNV could enhance the spectral information related to SOM and improve the accuracy of model estimation, and it was one of the most effective spectral pretreatment methods. Compared with the model constructed with the full-band spectroscopy method, the feature variable selection method could effectively improve the estimation accuracy of the Vis-NIR in situ spectroscopy model. The most obvious improvement was found with PSO, where R2 and RPD were improved by more than 0.34 and 0.16, respectively, and RMSE was reduced by more than 0.29 g kg−1. The accuracy of the CNN model was higher than that of the BPNN and PLSR models, both for the inversion model of SOM built from full-band spectral data and the bands selected by the characteristic variable selection method. SNV-PSO-CNN is the optimal hybrid model for in situ spectral measurement of SOM (R2 = 0.71, RPD = 1.88, RMSE = 1.67 g kg−1) and can realize the quantitative in situ spectral inversion of SOM in desert soils.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic pain syndrome characterized by persistent and widespread musculoskeletal pain. Telerehabilitation is a promising treatment for patients with fibromyalgia through long-term ...monitoring, intervention, supervision, consultation, and education.
This study aimed to perform a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis of the efficacy and safety of telerehabilitation in patients with fibromyalgia.
Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) related to fibromyalgia and telerehabilitation were systematically searched in the PubMed, PEDro, Cochrane Library, ScienceDirect, Ovid MEDLINE, Embase, and Web of Science databases from inception to November 13, 2022. Two independent researchers screened the literatures and evaluated the methodological quality using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool. The outcome measures included the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire scale, pain intensity, depression, pain catastrophizing, quality of life (QoL), and adverse events. A total of 14 RCTs with 1242 participants were included in this meta-analysis. The pooled results indicated that the telerehabilitation improved the Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire score (weighted mean difference -8.32, 95% CI -11.72 to -4.91; P<.001), pain intensity (standardized mean difference SMD -0.62, 95% CI -0.76 to -0.47; P<.001), depression levels (SMD -0.42, 95% CI -0.62 to -0.22; P<.001), pain catastrophizing (weighted mean difference -5.81, 95% CI -9.40 to -2.23; P=.001), and QoL (SMD 0.32, 95% CI 0.18 to 0.47; P<.001) in patients with fibromyalgia compared to control interventions. Only 1 RCT reported a mild adverse event of telerehabilitation; the other 13 RCTs did not mention this.
Telerehabilitation can improve the symptoms and QoL of fibromyalgia. However, the safety of telerehabilitation remains uncertain due to the lack of sufficient evidence for the management of fibromyalgia. More rigorously designed trials are needed in the future to verify the safety and efficacy of telerehabilitation in fibromyalgia.

The precise annotation and accurate identification of neural structures are prerequisites for studying mammalian brain function. The orientation of neurons and neural circuits is usually determined ...by mapping brain images to coarse axial-sampling planar reference atlases. However, individual differences at the cellular level likely lead to position errors and an inability to orient neural projections at single-cell resolution. Here, we present a high-throughput precision imaging method that can acquire a co-localized brain-wide data set of both fluorescent-labelled neurons and counterstained cell bodies at a voxel size of 0.32 × 0.32 × 2.0 μm in 3 days for a single mouse brain. We acquire mouse whole-brain imaging data sets of multiple types of neurons and projections with anatomical annotation at single-neuron resolution. The results show that the simultaneous acquisition of labelled neural structures and cytoarchitecture reference in the same brain greatly facilitates precise tracing of long-range projections and accurate locating of nuclei.

This study aimed to investigate the hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic activities of polysaccharides from Grifola frondosa (GFP) in diabetic mice induced by high-fat diet (HFD) and streptozotocin (STZ). Results showed that oral administration of GFP markedly reduced the serum levels of fasting blood glucose (FBG), oral glucose tolerance (OGT), cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and significantly decreased the hepatic levels of TC, TG and free fatty acids (FFA). Meanwhile, high-dose of GFP supplementation (900 mg/kg day) also showed powerful effects on moderating the composition of intestinal microflora in diabetic mice, especially altering the functionally relevant intestinal microbial phylotypes. Spearman’s correlation network analysis revealed that key microbial phylotypes responding to GFP intervention were strongly correlated with the glucose and lipid metabolic disorders associated parameters. Moreover, GFP treatment regulated mRNA expression levels of the genes responsible for hepatic glucose and lipid metabolism. It is noteworthy that GFP treatment markedly increased mRNA expression of cholesterol 7α-hydroxylase (CYP7A1) and bile salt export pump (BSEP), suggesting an enhancement of bile acids (BAs) synthesis and excretion in liver. These findings demonstrated that GFP could prevent hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia in diabetic mice by altering gut microbiota and regulating hepatic glycolipid metabolism related genes, and therefore could be used as potential functional food ingredients for the prevention or treatment of hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia.

We show that low-level uptake of nanoparticles evokes an unusual antioxidant response in hepatocytes by promoting Ces2h expression and consequently enhancing ester hydrolysis. This process can be implemented to treat specific hepatic metabolic disorders, such as fatty liver in both genetic and high-fat-diet obese mice without causing observed adverse effects. Our results demonstrate that low-dose nanoparticle administration may serve as a promising treatment for metabolic regulation.
Gasdermin E (GSDME), also called DFNA5, is a member of the gasdermin family. GSDME is involved in the regulation of apoptosis and necrosis. The N-terminal domain of GSDME displays an ...apoptosis-inducing activity while the C-terminal domain may serve as an apoptosis-inhibiting regulator by shielding the N-terminal domain. Besides its function in the regulation of apoptosis, GSDME was recently reported to be a substrate of caspase-3 and cleavage of GSDME by caspase-3 into necrotic N-terminal fragment leads to the induction of secondary necrosis.
GSDME
was first identified as a deafness gene because its mutation was associated with a specific form of autosomal dominant progressive sensorineural hearing loss. Furthermore, GSDME has been considered a tumor suppressor implicated in several types of cancer. This mini-review summarized recent reports relevant to the functions of GSDME in the regulation of apoptosis and necrosis as well as its clinical relevance.

Soil organic carbon (SOC) plays an important role in the global carbon cycle and soil fertility supply. Rapid and accurate estimation of SOC content could provide critical information for crop ...production, soil management and soil carbon pool regulation. Many researchers have confirmed the feasibility and great potential of visible and near-infrared (Vis-NIR) spectroscopy in evaluating SOC content rapidly and accurately. Here, to evaluate the feasibility of different spectral bands variable selection methods for SOC prediction, we collected a total of 330 surface soil samples from the cotton field in the Alar Reclamation area in the southern part of Xinjiang, which is located in the arid region of northwest China. Then, we estimated the SOC content using laboratory Vis-NIR spectral. The Particle Swarm optimization (PSO), Competitive adaptive reweighted sampling (CARS) and Ant colony optimization (ACO) were adopted to select SOC feature bands. The partial least squares regression (PLSR), random forest (RF) and convolutional neural network (CNN) inversion models were constructed by using full-bands (400-2400 nm) spectra (R) and feature bands, respectively. And we also analyzed the effects of spectral feature band selection methods and modeling methods on the prediction accuracy of SOC. The results indicated that: (1) There are significant differences in the feature bands selected using different methods. The feature bands selected methods substantially reduced the spectral variable dimensionality and model complexity. The models built by the feature bands selected by CARS, PSO and ACO methods showed the different potential of improvement in model accuracy compared with the full-band models. (2) The CNN model had the best performance for predicting SOC. The R
of the optimal CNN model is 0.90 in the validation, which was improved by 0.05 and 0.04 in comparison with the PLSR and RF model, respectively. (3) The highest prediction accuracy was archived by the CNN model using the feature bands selected by CARS (validation set R

The hemorrhagic progression of a contusion (HPC) after Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is one of the important causes of death in trauma patients. The purpose of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the ...predictive effect of imaging features of Computed tomography (CT) on HPC after TBI. A comprehensive systematic search was performed using PubMed, EMBASE, and WEB OF SCIENCE databases to identify all relevant literature. A total of 8 studies involving 2543 patients were included in this meta-analysis. Meta-analysis showed that subarachnoid hemorrhage (OR 3.28; 95% CI 2.57-4.20), subdural hemorrhage (OR 4.35; 95% CI 3.29-5.75), epidural hemorrhage (OR 1.47;95% CI 1.15-1.89), contrast extravasation (OR 11.81; 95% CI 4.86-28.71) had a predictive effect on the occurrence of HPC. Skull fracture (OR 1.64; 95% CI 0.84-3.19) showed no statistical significance, and midline displacement > 5 mm (OR 4.66; 95% CI 1.87-11.62) showed high heterogeneity. The results of this meta-analysis showed that some imaging features were effective predictors of HPC after TBI. Well-designed prospective studies are needed to more accurately assess the effective predictors of HPC after TBI.

Understanding amazingly complex brain functions and pathologies requires a complete cerebral vascular atlas in stereotaxic coordinates. Making a precise atlas for cerebral arteries and veins has been ...a century-old objective in neuroscience and neuropathology. Using micro-optical sectioning tomography (MOST) with a modified Nissl staining method, we acquired five mouse brain data sets containing arteries, veins, and microvessels. Based on the brain-wide vascular spatial structures and brain regions indicated by cytoarchitecture in one and the same mouse brain, we reconstructed and annotated the vascular system atlas of both arteries and veins of the whole mouse brain for the first time. The distributing patterns of the vascular system within the brain regions were acquired and our results show that the patterns of individual vessels are different from each other. Reconstruction and statistical analysis of the microvascular network, including derivation of quantitative vascular densities, indicate significant differences mainly in vessels with diameters less than 8 μm and large than 20 μm across different brain regions. Our precise cerebral vascular atlas provides an important resource and approach for quantitative studies of brain functions and diseases.
