Abaca fibres that have excellent mechanical properties are widely applied in the production and preparation of eco-friendly polymer composites as reinforcement materials. However, the weak ...interfacial bonding property of the abaca fibre and composite matrix limits the further extended application of abaca fibre-reinforced polymer composites. In this research, the findings demonstrate that, compared to raw abaca fibres, the interfacial shear strength (IFSS) value between the treated fibre and matrix is improved by 32% to 86%. Moreover, chemically treated abaca fibres could not only improve the wear resistance of the polymer composites, but also could promote the formation of primary and secondary plateaus. The best wear resistance behaviour was demonstrated by the sample with abaca fibres treated with 3% NaOH and 5% silane solutions, which had a maximum reduction in the sum wear rate of 28.44%. This research will provide detail on theoretical guidance and technical support for the development of eco-friendly natural fibre-reinforced polymer composites.

Environmental noise pollution is a growing challenge worldwide, necessitating effective sound absorption strategies to improve acoustic environments. Materials that draw inspiration from nature’s ...structural design principles can provide enhanced functionalities. Wood exhibits an intricate multi-scale porous architecture that can dissipate acoustic energy. This study investigates a biomimetic sound-absorbing structure composed of hierarchical pores inspired by the vascular networks within wood cells. The perforated resonators induce complementary frequency responses and porous propagation effects for broadband attenuation. Samples were fabricated using 3D printing for systematic testing. The pore size, porosity, number of layers, and order of the layers were controlled as experimental variables. Acoustic impedance tube characterization demonstrated that optimizing these architectural parameters enables absorption coefficients approaching unity across a broad frequency range. The tuned multi-layer porous architectures outperformed single pore baselines, achieving up to a 25–35% increase in the average absorption. The bio-inspired coupled pore designs also exhibited a 95% broader working bandwidth. These enhancements result from the increased viscous losses and tailored impedance matching generated by the hierarchical porosity. This work elucidates structure–property guidelines for designing biomimetic acoustic metamaterials derived from the porous morphology of wood. The results show significant promise for leveraging such multi-scale cellular geometries in future materials and devices for noise control and dissipative engineering applications across diverse sectors.

In the present work, influence of silane solution concentration on mechanical, tribological and morphological properties of Corn Stalk Fiber (CSF) reinforced polymer composites was investigated. ...Experimental results showed that the silane-treated CSF reinforced polymer composite (CMS) exhibited a promising property of low density. Silane solution treatments of the CSF could effectively reduce the water absorption and apparent porosity of the polymer composite system. The silane-treated CSF could not effectively improve the friction performance, but could significantly improve the wear rate of the polymer composites. Especially, the sum wear rate of 5% silane-treated CSF reinforced composite (5% CMS) decreased by 22.8% from 4.792 × 10−7 cm3(N⋅m)−1 to 3.699 × 10−7 cm3(N⋅m)−1 compared with that of the raw CSF reinforced composite (CMU), showing the best wear resistant behavior. Worn surfaces were examined by Scanning Electron Microscopy and the results revealed that the silane-treated CSF was conducive to the formation of secondary plateaus on the polymer composite surface, which could obviously improve the tribological and morphological properties.

Thyroid cancer is the most widespread endocrine malignant cancer and its worldwide occurrence rates are swiftly mounting more pressure in the research institutions. Even though the transience of ...thyroid cancer is comparatively short, its rate of reappearance is moderately elevated, which is a major cause of the incurable disease of the thyroid gland. Consequently, we used natural component which restrains the cancer cell growth by amending precise molecular mechanisms. In this current study, we assessed sesame, which is a very active substance that inhibits cell proliferation by modulation of JAK/STAT-3 signaling in thyroid cancer cell lines (FTC-133). Results showed that sesame triggers cytotoxicity, ROS production and apoptosis in FTC-133 cell lines by time-dependent approach. Furthermore, Signal Transducer and Activating Transcription (STAT-3) is a novel oncogenic transcriptional factor which normalizes apoptosis and proliferation. The reticence of STAT-3 transcription was measured as an innovative approach to hamper thyroid cancer cell growth. In this current study, we established that sesame deactivates STAT-3 translocation, thereby reducing the elevated expression of, cyclin-D1, Bcl-2 and diminished expression of Bax, caspase-9 and 3 in FTC-133 cell lines. Conclusively, sesame hampers thyroid cell expansion and initiates apoptosis by hindering STAT-3 translocation.
In this paper, Ni60/WC wear-resistant coatings have been created on the Ti6Al4V substrate surface using a pre-layered powder laser cladding method by deploying various scanning speeds of 8, 10, 12, ...and 14 mm/s. The coatings are characterized through X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and a high-speed reciprocating fatigue wear tester. , and NiTi and γ-Ni solid solutions. At different scanning speeds, there is a metallurgical fusion line in the bonding area of the fused cladding layer, indicating a good metallurgical bonding between the substrate and the powder. At a low scanning speed, the coating develops into coarse dendrites, which shows significant improvement with scanning speed. The microhardness first increases and then decreases with the scanning speed, and the coating's average microhardness was 2.75-3.13 times higher than that of the substrate. The amount of mass wear has been reduced by 60.1-79.7% compared to the substrate. The wear behavior of the coatings was studied through detailed analysis of wear surfaces' microstructures and the amount of wear to identify the optimum scanning speed.

This study explores the conversion of agricultural waste into valuable industrial precursors, specifically focusing on the production of silica nanoparticles from rice husk (RH) via calcination and ...sol-gel processes. The synthesized particles underwent detailed analysis to assess their chemical composition, structural features, morphological characteristics, and size distribution. This comparative analysis evaluates the effectiveness of various methods in generating silica from RH and examines the impact of different drying techniques, including freeze-drying and conventional thermal drying, on the properties of the resulting silica nanoparticles. Utilizing a combination of sol-gel and freeze-drying techniques produced spherical nanoparticles with diameters of 10 to 20 nm, characterized by size uniformity, clear contours, and minimal aggregation. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis identified the amorphous nature of the silica, as evidenced by diffraction peaks typical of amorphous silica in the RH-derived samples processed via different methods. Significantly, the XRD patterns of the calcination-derived silica showed no foreign peaks, indicating a purer amorphous state. The findings of this study are anticipated to contribute to the development of innovative and efficient silica nanomaterials, fostering the sustainable use of agricultural waste.

In order to further improve the ...energy absorption characteristics of vibration absorbing structures, a new type of honeycomb structure with integral rotation and group rotation is designed and characterized. The effects of the geometrical parameters of rotation Angle on the impact deformation mode, stress response curve and energy absorption characteristics of the honeycomb structure are studied through numerical simulation and experimental design. The results show that the overall honeycomb performance of 15° is better than that of 0°, the specific energy absorption is the results show that the overall honeycomb performance of 15° is better than that of 0°, the specific energy absorption is increased by 6%, the bearing capacity is increased by 320 N, and the crushing force efficiency is increased by 2%. Biological materials generally have better properties than engineered materials due to their intricate architecture, e.g., high strength-to-weight ratio, stiffness, toughness and adaptability. It has ...proven difficult to synthesize materials with biomimetic architecture. Recently, 3D printing techniques show great promise in bioinspired structural materials. In this paper, we propose an approach to fabricate composite materials with aligned steel fibers using a self-made 3D printer and characterized the mechanical properties of the prepared materials. To do so, we developed a DLP-based 3D printing process that can align short steel fibers in the resin matrix via magnetic assembly during the printing process. Using the developed process and raw materials, samples with ordered fibers were prepared. The mechanical properties of the printed materials, including the strength and friction, as well as morphology, were characterized. The results show that magnetically assisted scraper shear-induced 3D printing can realize the ordered arrangement of fibers. The tensile and compressive strength consistent with the direction of aligned fibers are higher than that of other directions. The friction performance perpendicular to the direction of aligned fibers is better than that of other directions. The mechanical and frictional properties of the composite contenting 5% fibers are better than that of 10% or 15%. This study provides a basis for the manufacture of biomimetic materials.

Abaca fibers show tremendous potential as reinforcing components in composite materials. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of abaca fiber content on physical, mechanical and ...tribological properties of abaca fiber reinforced friction composites. The friction composites were fabricated by a compression molder and investigated using a friction test machine. The experiment results show that surface treatment of abaca fibers could improve the mechanical properties of abaca fiber and interface bonding strength of the abaca fiber and composite matrix. Density of friction composites decreased with the increasing of abaca fiber content (0 wt%-4 wt%). The different content of abaca fibers had less effect on hardness of specimens, whereas large of impact strength. The specimen F3 with 3 wt% abaca fibers had the lowest wear rate and possessed the best wear resistance, followed by specimen F4 with 4 wt% abaca fibers. The worn surface morphologies were observed using the Scanning Electron Microscopy for study the tribological behavior and wear mechanism. The results show that a large amount of secondary contact plateaus presented on the worn surface of specimen F3 which had relatively smooth worn surface.

The phenomenon of soil adhesion occurs when soil-tillage implements interact with soil, which often increases the working resistance and energy consumption. It was found that the membranous leaf ...sheath of rhizoma imperatae can shuttle in soil, owing to not only its own growth force, but also the anti-adhesion function due to the hydrophobicity and special surface texture. In this article, the microstructure and surface wettability of membranous leaf sheath were studied to reveal its anti-adhesion property by testing. The anti-adhesion mechanism of the hydrophobic surface for the static and dynamic state was analyzed. The biomimetic specimens were designed and fabricated using 65Mn steel inspired by membrane leaf sheaths. The hydrophobic surface was obtained on 65Mn steel by the low free energy modification with myristic acid ethanol solution. For comparison, a 65Mn steel sample without modification was also prepared. A linear soil bin filled with clayey soil with the compaction and gravimetric moisture content of 24.5% dry base was constructed to test the soil anti-adhesion properties of biomimetic specimens. In fixed compacted soil with 24.5% moisture content, the weight of adhesive soil on the modified biomimetic surface measured 50% less than that of the control specimens flat plate surface with modification and NO. 10.
