Rights of students are often misunderstood. Civil rights of minorities granted by the U.S. Supreme Court are confused with human rights of individuals with disabilities granted by the U.S. Congress. ...Federal law applying to the education of individuals with disabilities requires that difficult decisions be made by families and schools regarding how to address four different and interrelated provisions of Public Law 94-142 of 1975 (now the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004 or IDEA): (a) a free, appropriate public education (FAPE), (b) an Individualized Education Program (IEP), (c) placement in the least restrictive environment (LRE), and (d) a full continuum of alternative placements (CAP). Special attention is given to LRE because the full inclusion movement and other influences related to a portion of disability studies have made it the central issue in special education. Under the law, three hard-to-answer questions must be asked in all cases involving special education: (a) What is an appropriate special education for a particular student with a disability? (b) What is the LRE in which that most appropriate education can occur for that individual student? (c) What is the CAP related to that individualized appropriate education?

We consider dark matter annihilation into standard model particles and show that the least detectable final states, namely, neutrinos, define an upper bound on the total cross section. Calculating ...the cosmic diffuse neutrino signal, and comparing it to the measured terrestrial atmospheric neutrino background, we derive a strong and general bound. This can be evaded if the annihilation products are dominantly new and truly invisible particles. Our bound is much stronger than the unitarity bound at the most interesting masses, shows that dark matter halos cannot be significantly modified by annihilations, and can be improved by a factor of 10-100 with existing neutrino experiments.

This systematic review of reviews is the first to summarize peer tutoring outcomes for students with or at-risk for emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD). Eleven narrative literature reviews, ...three systematic reviews, and two meta-analyses of peer tutoring interventions that met inclusion criteria were summarized. Participants across the 16 reviews included more than 2,404 students with or at-risk for EBD in pre-kindergarten through grade 12 across 73 individual, unduplicated studies. Findings support the efficacy of peer tutoring for students with or at-risk for EBD regarding academic and behavioral outcomes. Lessons learned, and implications for research and practice derived from these reviews are provided.

To determine if there is an association between physical activity (PA) and subjective well-being (SWB) among people ...living with spinal cord injury (SCI).
Literature searches were conducted using multiple databases (Embase, CINAHL, Medline, PsychINFO and SPORTDiscus) to identify studies involving people with SCI that included a measure of PA and at least one measure of SWB (for example, symptoms of depression, life satisfaction, mood). Relevant data were extracted from the studies and subjected to meta-analysis.
A total of 21 studies were retrieved yielding 78 effect sizes and a total sample size of 2354. Overall, there were statistically significant, small- to medium-sized effects for the relationships between PA and SWB (broadly defined), PA and depressive symptoms, and PA and life satisfaction. Studies using experimental and quasi-experimental designs yielded larger effects for SWB (broadly defined) and life satisfaction, than studies using nonexperimental study designs.
There is a small- to medium-sized positive relationship between PA and SWB among people with SCI that holds across a wide range of measures and operational definitions of these constructs.

Monocytes play a key role in cardiovascular disease (CVD) as their influx into the vessel wall is necessary for the development of an atherosclerotic plaque. Monocytes are, however, heterogeneous ...differentiating from classical monocytes through the intermediate subset to the nonclassical subset. While it is recognized that the percentage of intermediate and nonclassical monocytes are higher in individuals with CVD, accompanying changes in inflammatory markers suggest a functional impact on disease development that goes beyond the increased proportion of these ‘inflammatory’ monocyte subsets. Furthermore, emerging evidence indicates that changes in monocyte proportion and function arise in dyslipidemia, with lipid lowering medication having some effect on reversing these changes. This review explores the nature and number of monocyte subsets in CVD addressing what they are, when they arise, the effect of lipid lowering treatment, and the possible implications for plaque development. Understanding these associations will deepen our understanding of the clinical significance of monocytes in CVD.

Background:
Lower extremity (LEX) strains, including hamstring, quadriceps, adductor, and calf strains, are among the most common injuries in sports. These injuries lead to high burden, resulting in ...significant missed participation time.
Purpose:
To describe the incidence of LEX strains in professional American football.
Study Design:
Descriptive epidemiology study.
Methods:
This study included all players who played in ≥1 National Football League (NFL) game or sustained a LEX strain during participation in the 2015-2019 seasons. LEX strain frequency was calculated by setting (game, practice, conditioning), timing in season (offseason, preseason, regular season, postseason), and roster position. Game incidence rates were calculated for season, roster position, and play type. LEX strains were identified in the standardized leaguewide electronic health record (n = 32 teams).
Results:
Across 5 years, 5780 LEX strains were reported among 2769 players (1-year risk, 26.7%; 95% CI, 26.0%-27.3%); 69% (n = 4015) resulted in time loss. Among all LEX strains, 54.7% were hamstring (n = 3163), 24.1% adductor (n = 1393), 12.6% calf (n = 728), 8.3% quadriceps (n = 477), and 0.3% multiple muscle groups (n = 19). Most were reported during preseason practices (n = 1076; 27%) and regular season games (n = 1060; 26%). The 2-week period of training camp practices comprised 19% of all time-loss strains. Among game injuries, preseason games had the highest rate of LEX strain (2.9/10,000 player-plays; 95% CI, 2.6-3.2). Defensive secondary players accounted for the highest proportion of time-loss LEX strains (27%; n = 1082). In games, punt plays had nearly twice the injury rate of kickoff plays (14.9/1000 plays 95% CI, 13.1-17.0 vs 7.5/1000 plays 95% CI, 6.2-8.9, respectively) and >3 times the rate of pass plays (4.3/1000 plays; 95% CI, 4.0-4.7) and run plays (2.6/1000 plays; 95% CI, 2.3-2.9). In aggregate, LEX strains led to an estimated 16,748 participation days missed each year and a median 12 days missed per injury.
Conclusion:
LEX strains affected 1 in 4 NFL players each year, resulting in a high burden of injury in terms of time lost from practice and competition. Safe return to the NFL season during training camp and reduction of injuries during regular season games are key focuses for future injury reduction.

Research suggests that 10%–20% of preschoolers have emotional and behavioral problems that would place them at‐risk for development of emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD). Preschool children who ...exhibit early onset of antisocial and externalizing problem behaviors require early social‐behavioral interventions focused on social skills. A scoping review was conducted that identified 33 single‐case research design studies on social skills interventions for preschoolers. Quality indicatiors were used to examine the design quality of the studies included. A total of 19 studies met quality standards with reservation or met standards without reservations. 43 participants in 11 studies conducted by 10 research teams showed evidence to support social skills interventions as effective interventions. The majority of the evaluated studies (97%) reported IOA. These findings contribute to the growing literature base underscoring social skills interventions in early childhood settings.

Human fumarylacetoacetate hydrolase (FAH) domain containing protein 1 (FAHD1) is a mitochondrial oxalocatate decarboxylase, the first of its kind identified in eukaryotes. The physiological role of ...FAHD1 in other eukaryotes is still poorly understood. In C. elegans loss of the FAHD1 ortholog FAHD-1 was reported to impair mitochondrial function, locomotion and egg-laying behavior, yet the underlying mechanisms remained unclear. Using tissue-specific rescue of fahd-1(-) worms, we find that these phenotypic abnormalities are at least in part due to fahd-1's function in neurons. Moreover, we show that egg-laying defects in fahd-1(-) worms can be fully rescued by external dopamine administration and that depletion of fahd-1 expression induces expression of several enzymes involved in serotonin biosynthesis. Together, our results support a role for fahd-1 in modulating serotonin levels and suggest this protein as a novel link between metabolism and neurotransmitter signaling in the nervous system. Finally, we propose a model to explain how a metabolic defect could ultimately lead to marked changes in neuronal signaling.

The Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials for Patient-Reported Outcomes (CONSORT PRO) and the Consensus on Exercise Reporting Template (CERT) have been developed to improve the quality and ...transparency of reporting standards in scientific research. The purpose of this study was to provide evidence for the adoption of CONSORT PRO and CERT by researchers examining the link between exercise and quality of life in individuals living with osteoporosis. A systematic search was conducted to identify randomized control trials published in English evaluating exercise interventions on quality of life in individuals living with osteoporosis. Reporting standards were assessed using CONSORT PRO and CERT. A total of 127 studies were identified with 23 meeting inclusion criteria. “Good” evidence for eight (42.1%) CONSORT PRO and two (12.5%) CERT items was found. Adherence to CONSORT PRO was not related to the year of publication, journal impact factor, or study quality. Adherence to CONSORT PRO and CERT reporting standards is inadequate in the literature examining exercise interventions on quality of life in individuals living with osteoporosis. Sufficient reporting is paramount to knowledge translation, interpretation by interventionists, and clinician confidence in understanding if (and how) exercise is associated with quality of life outcomes in this cohort. Concerns associated with failure to include this information are highlighted.

Background: Increasing knowledge of cancer biology and an expanding spectrum of molecularly targeted therapies provide the basis for precision oncology. Despite extensive gene diagnostics, previous ...reports indicate that less than 10% of patients benefit from this concept. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed all patients referred to our center’s Molecular Tumor Board (MTB) from 2018 to 2021. Molecular testing by next-generation sequencing (NGS) included a 67-gene panel for the detection of short-sequence variants and copy-number alterations, a 53- or 137-gene fusion panel and an ultra-low-coverage whole-genome sequencing for the detection of additional copy-number alterations outside the panel’s target regions. Immunohistochemistry for microsatellite instability and PD-L1 expression complemented NGS. Results: A total of 109 patients were referred to the MTB. In all, 78 patients received therapeutic proposals (70 based on NGS) and 33 were treated accordingly. Evaluable patients treated with MTB-recommended therapy (n = 30) had significantly longer progression-free survival than patients treated with other therapies (n = 17) (4.3 vs. 1.9 months, p = 0.0094). Seven patients treated with off-label regimens experienced major clinical benefits. Conclusion: The combined focused sequencing assays detected targetable alterations in the majority of patients. Patient benefits appeared to lie in the same range as with large-scale sequencing approaches.
