Renal disease is a significant public health concern that affects people all over the world. The main limitations of conventional therapy are the adverse reaction on human health and the expensive ...cost of drugs. Indeed, it is necessary to develop new therapeutic strategies that are less expensive and have fewer side effects. As a consequence of their natural compounds, medicinal plants can be used as an alternative therapy to cure various ailments including kidney diseases.

To analyze pharmacological effects, phytochemical, and clinical trials of plants, selected for renal therapy, a bibliographical search was undertaken by examining ethnobotanical investigations conducted in Morocco between 1991 and 2019 and consulting peer-reviewed papers from all over the world.
Approximately 290 plant species, spanning 81 families and 218 genera have been reported as being utilized by Moroccans to manage renal illness. The most frequently mentioned species in Morocco were Herniaria hirsuta subsp. cinerea (DC.), Petroselinum crispum (Mill.) Fuss and Rosmarinus officinalis L. The leaves were the most frequently used plant parts, followed by the whole plant. Decoction and infusion were the most popular methods of preparation. A record of 71 plant species was studied in vitro and/or in vivo for their therapeutic efficacy against kidney disorders, including 10 plants attempting to make it to the clinical stage. Twenty compounds obtained from 15 plants have been studied for the treatment of kidney diseases.
Medicinal herbs could be a credible alternative therapy for renal illness. However, additional controlled trials are required to confirm their efficiency in patients with kidney failure. Overall, this work could be used as a database for future exploration.

Cyclooxygenase-1 and -2 (COX-1/2) catalyze the initial step in the formation of prostaglandins. Very recently their role in carcinogenesis has become more evident. They influence apoptosis, ...angiogenesis, and invasion, and play a key role in the production of carcinogens. Usually, a high level of COX-2 expression is found in cancer cells. Large epidemiological trials studying users and non-users of aspirin have shown that cyclooxygenase inhibitors and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) could be of benefit against the development and growth of malignancies. Moreover, clinical trials in patients with familial adenomatosis polyposis syndrome have shown the efficacy of selective COX-2 inhibitors in the reduction of the number and size of colorectal polyps. Several preclinical studies show promising results with combinatorial treatments of either chemotherapy or radiotherapy with COX inhibitors. Preclinical studies with the simultaneous use of inhibitors of the epidermal growth factor receptor and COX-2 inhibitors have shown also promising results. Encouraging results from the first clinical trials combining chemotherapy with COX-2 inhibitors in patients with cancer in the advanced and neoadjuvant setting have recently been reported. Thus, it appears that targeting the COX-2 pathway is a promising strategy in the prevention and treatment of solid tumors.

Abstract
Oxidative stress has been consistently linked to ageing-related neurodegenerative diseases. Neurodegenerative diseases are characterized by progressive dysfunction and death of neurons. ...Oxidative stress is associated with dysfunction of the mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum, inducing apoptosis and protein misfolding in neurons. Decreased activities of antioxidant enzymes like SOD, catalase, glutathione, glutathione peroxidase in neurodegenerative states signifies role of reduced antioxidant potential in neurodegeneration. Among the cellular pathways conferring protection against oxidative stress, a key role is played by vitagenes, which include Hsp70, heme oxygenase-1, thioredoxin and sirtuins. Cellular signalling pathways and molecular mechanisms that mediate hormetic responses typically involve antioxidant enzymes and transcription factors such as Nrf-2 and NFκB. Vitagenes, either individually or by acting in concert, contribute to counteract the ROS mediated damage. In this review the importance of oxidative stress and the potential use of antioxidants in the prevention and treatment of neurodegenerative disorders are discussed.

Activation of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF- κB) as a mechanism of host defense against infection and stress is the central mediator of inflammatory responses. A normal (acute) inflammatory response is ...activated on urgent basis and is auto-regulated. Chronic inflammation that results due to failure in the regulatory mechanism, however, is largely considered as a critical determinant in the initiation and progression of various forms of cancer. Mechanistically, NF- κB favors this process by inducing various genes responsible for cell survival, proliferation, migration, invasion while at the same time antagonizing growth regulators including tumor suppressor p53. It has been shown by various independent investigations that a down regulation of NF- κB activity directly, or indirectly through the activation of the p53 pathway reduces tumor growth substantially. Therefore, there is a huge effort driven by many laboratories to understand the NF- κB signaling pathways to intervene the function of this crucial player in inflammation and tumorigenesis in order to find an effective inhibitor directly, or through the p53 tumor suppressor. We discuss here on the role of NF- κB in chronic inflammation and cancer, highlighting mutual antagonism between NF- κB and p53 pathways in the process. We also discuss prospective pharmacological modulators of these two pathways, including those that were already tested to affect this mutual antagonism.
Azadiradione is a small bioactive limonoid found in the seed of Azadirachta Indica, an Indian medicinal plant commonly known as Neem. Recently, it has been shown to ameliorate the disease pathology ...in fly and mouse model of Huntington's disease by restoring impaired proteostasis. Here we report that the azadiradione could be involved in modulating the synaptic function through increased expression of Ube3a, a dual function protein having ubiquitin ligase and co-activator functions and associated with Angelman syndrome and autism. Treatment of azadiradione to HT22 hippocampal cell line and in adult mice induced the expression of Ube3a as well as two important synaptic function and plasticity regulating proteins, parvalbumin and brain-derived neurotropic factor (BDNF). Interestingly, another synaptic plasticity modulating protein Arc (activity-regulated cytoskeletal associated protein) was down-regulated by azadiradione. Partial knockdown of Ube3a in HT22 cell abrogated azadiradione induced expression of parvalbumin and BDNF. Ube3a-maternal deficient mice also exhibited significantly decreased expression of parvalbumin and BDNF in their brain and treatment of azadiradione in these animals did not rescue the altered expression of either parvalbumin or BDNF. These results indicate that azadiradione-induced expression of parvalbumin and BDNF in the brain is mediated through Ube3a and suggest that azadiradione could be implicated in restoring synaptic dysfunction in many neuropsychiatric/neurodegenerative disorders.

Diseases associated with chronic inflammatory pathology claim a major share of worldwide deaths each year. A principal reason behind the huge number of casualties is associated with mild or unnoticed ...symptoms for long period of time since the outset, and that specific treatment options for these diseases have not yet emerged. Current anti-inflammatory drugs essentially have become ineffective for long term protection from these diseases as they also interfere with essential cellular pathways and associated toxicities. Notably, recent studies with a number of phytochemicals have shown promising results. These compounds isolated from various medicinal plants express their anti-inflammatory activities by down regulating expression of several crucial pro-inflammatory mediators. These are mostly antioxidants; inhibit induction of key transcription factors like nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) that are responsible for expression of proinflammatory mediators, and other growth regulators. Definitely, some of these compounds have the potential to be developed into new therapeutic agents to better control inflammation associated diseases in near future. This review summarizes recent findings on the molecular mechanisms through which various inflammatory activities are linked to disease progression and a group of natural products that have shown promise in controlling these processes.
The present paper documents the uses of plants in traditional herbal medicine for human and veterinary ailments, and those used for dietary supplements, religious purpose, local beverage, and plants ...used to poison fish and wild animals. Traditional botanical medicine is the primary mode of healthcare for most of the rural population in Arunachal Pradesh.
Field research was conducted between April 2006 and March 2009 with randomly selected 124 key informants using semi-structured questionnaire. The data obtained was analyzed through informant consensus factor (FIC) to determine the homogeneity of informant's knowledge on medicinal plants.
We documented 50 plants species belonging to 29 families used for treating 22 human and 4 veterinary ailments. Of the medicinal plants reported, the most common growth form was herbs (40%) followed by shrubs, trees, and climbers. Leaves were most frequently used plant parts. The consensus analysis revealed that the dermatological ailments have the highest FIC (0.56) and the gastro-intestinal diseases have FIC (0.43). FIC values indicated that there was high agreement in the use of plants in dermatological and gastro-intestinal ailments category among the users. Gymnocladus assamicus is a critically rare and endangered species used as disinfectant for cleaning wounds and parasites like leeches and lice on livestocks. Two plant species (Illicium griffithii and Rubia cordifolia) are commonly used for traditional dyeing of clothes and food items. Some of the edible plants recorded in this study were known for their treatment against high blood pressure (Clerodendron colebrookianum), diabetes mellitus (Momordica charantia), and intestinal parasitic worms like round and tape worms (Lindera neesiana, Solanum etiopicum, and Solanum indicum). The Monpas of Arunachal Pradesh have traditionally been using Daphne papyracea for preparing hand-made paper for painting and writing religious scripts in Buddhist monasteries. Three plant species (Derris scandens, Aesculus assamica, and Polygonum hydropiper) were frequently used to poison fish during the month of June-July every year and the underground tuber of Aconitum ferrox is widely used in arrow poisoning to kill ferocious animals like bear, wild pigs, gaur and deer. The most frequently cited plant species; Buddleja asiatica and Hedyotis scandens were used as common growth supplements during the preparation of fermentation starter cultures.
The traditional pharmacopoeia of the Monpa ethnic group incorporates a myriad of diverse botanical flora. Traditional knowledge of the remedies is passed down through oral traditions without any written document. This traditional knowledge is however, currently threatened mainly due to acculturation and deforestation due to continuing traditional shifting cultivation. This study reveals that the rural populations in Arunachal Pradesh have a rich knowledge of forest-based natural resources and consumption of wild edible plants is still an integral part of their socio-cultural life. Findings of this documentation study can be used as an ethnopharmacological basis for selecting plants for future phytochemical and pharmaceutical studies.

min of MAE produced a maximum yield of 7.6% (w/w) of oleanolic acid which was found to be 4 times, 3 times and 1.2 times more efficient than maceration, stirring extraction and heat reflux extraction, respectively. Extracts obtained from 8
min of MAE showed better antioxidant activity when compared to other conventional methods. No degradation of the target analyte was observed at the optimum conditions as evidenced from the stability studies performed with standard oleanolic acid. The proposed method also showed high degree of reproducibility. From the results of scanning electron microscopy a new synergistic phenomenon of heat transfer and mass transfer was proposed.

The piezoelectric effect in poly(vinylidene fluoride), PVDF, was discovered over four decades ago and since then, significant work has been carried out aiming at the production of high beta -phase ...fibres and their integration into fabric structures for energy harvesting. However, little work has been done in the area of production of "true piezoelectric fabric structures" based on flexible polymeric materials such as PVDF. In this work, we demonstrate "3D spacer" technology based all-fibre piezoelectric fabrics as power generators and energy harvesters. The knitted single-structure piezoelectric generator consists of high beta -phase ( similar to 80%) piezoelectric PVDF monofilaments as the spacer yarn interconnected between silver (Ag) coated polyamide multifilament yarn layers acting as the top and bottom electrodes. The novel and unique textile structure provides an output power density in the range of 1.10-5.10 mu W cm super(-2) at applied impact pressures in the range of 0.02-0.10 MPa, thus providing significantly higher power outputs and efficiencies over the existing 2D woven and nonwoven piezoelectric structures. The high energy efficiency, mechanical durability and comfort of the soft, flexible and all-fibre based power generator are highly attractive for a variety of potential applications such as wearable electronic systems and energy harvesters charged from the ambient environment or by human movement.
