The research considers safety climate in a warehouse and wants to analyze the Leader-Member Exchange (LMX) role in respect to safety performance. Griffin and Neal's safety model was adopted and ...Leader-Member Exchange was inserted as moderator in the relationships between safety climate and proximal antecedents (motivation and knowledge) of safety performance constructs (compliance and participation).
Survey data were collected from a sample of 133 full-time employees in an Italian warehouse. The statistical framework of Hayes (2013) was adopted for moderated mediation analysis.
Proximal antecedents partially mediated the relationship between Safety climate and safety participation, but not safety compliance. Moreover, the results from the moderation analysis showed that the Leader-Member Exchange moderated the influence of safety climate on proximal antecedents and the mediation exist only at the higher level of LMX.
The study shows that the different aspects of leadership processes interact in explaining individual proficiency in safety practices.
Organizations as warehouses should improve the quality of the relationship between a leader and a subordinate based upon the dimensions of respect, trust, and obligation for high level of safety performance.
We analyzed and discussed bathing water quality at 11 official bathing sites in Kaštela (Croatia) in the period 2009-2022. The results showed spatial and temporal variations in quality. The worst ...bathing water quality was in the eastern part of the area, at beaches Torac, Kamp and Gojača. Levels of indicator microorganisms at identified sources of fecal pollution near these beaches indicate a significant load of fecal material to these areas. The observed decrease in annual fecal indicator bacteria exceedances, while not statistically significant, indicates a trend toward improvement in water quality. The number of sites with worse annual and final assessment showed a decreasing trend only since 2017 and 2020, respectively, which is not a ‘sufficient’ time period to draw a clear conclusion about the trend. The improvements are probably the result of intensive work in recent years to improve the sewage system in the area. In the annual and final assessment, bathing sites from Kaštela with ‘poor’ water quality accounted on average for more than 27% of all waters with ‘poor’ quality in Croatia. This implies that additional efforts are needed to eliminate the sources of fecal pollution in the area.

Biofortification aims to increase selenium (Se) concentration and bioavailability in edible parts of crops such as wheat (Triticum aestivum L.), resulting in increased concentration of Se in plants ...and/or soil. Higher Se concentrations can disturb protein structure and consequently influence glutathione (GSH) metabolism in plants which can affect antioxidative and other detoxification pathways. The aim of this study was to elucidate the impact of five different concentrations of selenate and selenite (0.4, 4, 20, 40 and 400 mg kg−1) on the ascorbate-glutathione cycle in wheat shoots and roots and to determine biochemical and molecular tissue-specific responses. Content of investigated metabolites, activities of detoxification enzymes and expression of their genes depended both on the chemical form and concentration of the applied Se, as well as on the type of plant tissue. The most pronounced changes in the expression level of genes involved in GSH metabolism were visible in wheat shoots at the highest concentrations of both forms of Se. Obtained results can serve as a basis for further research on Se toxicity and detoxification mechanisms in wheat. New insights into the Se impact on GSH metabolism could contribute to the further development of biofortification strategies.
•AsA-GSH cycle has an important role in wheat response to Se.•Wheat shoots and roots showed different response to selenite and selenate.•The highest concentrations of Se caused remarkable GSH metabolism changes.•Results contribute to the further development of biofortification strategies.

We report the case of a full term male child with multiple organ dysfunctions caused by mutations of the TTN gene. Our patient had cardiac abnormalities verified by fetal echocardiography at 26 weeks ...of gestational age, when fetal hydrops due to cardiac decompensation was shown.Due to specific appearance seen at birth – generalized oedema, light facial and sexual dimorphism with hypogenitalism and chryptorchidism, axial hypotonia in addition to the proven congenital heart defects, a genetic disorder or syndrome with muscle involvement was suspected. Multiple comorbidities were present since birth, mainly cardiac and neurologic, some of which have been described in patients with core myopathies (atrial and ventricular septal defects, supraventricular tachycardia, hypotonia, developmental delay, myopathy). Due to the complexity of the heart defect at the age of 2 months a partial pulmonary trunk banding and ligation of the ductus Botalli (PDA) was initially carried out, and at 9 months a complete correction of heart defect was performed. Our patient also had failure to thrive as well as recurrent vomiting, wich was later on asociated with extraluminal compression of the proximal duodenum, intestinal malrotation and malfixation. Although a surgical approach somewhat increased tolerance of peroral food intake, chronic diarrhoea and failure to thrive persisted. In addition, our patient had several metabolic and endocrine disorders including hypocalcemia, hypomagnesemia, hyponatremia, repeatedly elevated levels of PTH, hypothyroidism etc. Our patient had recurrent, mainly respiratory infections with multiresistant microorganisms, and recuired intubation and long-lasting mechanical ventilation. The above mentioned multiple disorders of various organ systems, with complications caused by multiple sepses, ultimately resulted in multiorgan failure, and despite all the applied treatment at the ICU, resulted in a lethal outcome. Coresponding findings described in other patients with core myopathies included neonatal hypotonia, poor suckling, severe motor skill delay, complex heart defects and cardiomyopathy.
ADP-ribosylation is a post-translational modification that can alter the physical and chemical properties of target proteins and that controls many important cellular processes. Macrodomains are ...evolutionarily conserved structural domains that bind ADP-ribose derivatives and are found in proteins with diverse cellular functions. Some proteins from the macrodomain family can hydrolyze ADP-ribosylated substrates and therefore reverse this post-translational modification. Bacteria and Streptomyces, in particular, are known to utilize protein ADP-ribosylation, yet very little is known about their enzymes that synthesize and remove this modification. We have determined the crystal structure and characterized, both biochemically and functionally, the macrodomain protein SCO6735 from Streptomyces coelicolor. This protein is a member of an uncharacterized subfamily of macrodomain proteins. Its crystal structure revealed a highly conserved macrodomain fold. We showed that SCO6735 possesses the ability to hydrolyze PARP-dependent protein ADP-ribosylation. Furthermore, we showed that expression of this protein is induced upon DNA damage and that deletion of this protein in S. coelicolor increases antibiotic production. Our results provide the first insights into the molecular basis of its action and impact on Streptomyces metabolism.

Abstract
BACKGROUND:
Idiopathic carpal tunnel syndrome (ICTS) is a common entrapment neuropathy. Some cases of ICTS are linked to mutations of the transthyretin gene, whereas others are associated ...with systemic amyloidosis. The majority of ICTS cases are of unknown etiology.
OBJECTIVE:
To study molecular mechanisms of ICTS development.
METHODS:
A total of 71 ICTS patients and 68 control subjects were included in the study. The fibrinogen level was determined before surgery and its deposition in the transversal carpal ligament (TCL) was detected by immunohistochemistry, Western blot, and mass spectrometry. Fibrinogen interaction with other proteins was studied by immunoprecipitation assay.
RESULTS:
Plasma levels of the proinflammatory and hemostatic protein fibrinogen are elevated in ICTS patients. Other measured systemic inflammatory markers were not affected, and local inflammatory responses in TCL were absent. ICTS patients have shorter bleeding times, probably because of the elevated plasma levels of fibrinogen. Polymorphisms of the fibrinogen B promoter region were previously associated with increased plasma fibrinogen, but this association was not observed among patients with ICTS. Interestingly, we detected fibrinogen deposits in the TCL, whereas transcriptional activity of the fibrinogen genes was low. Amyloidogenic proteins, including transthyretin and α-synuclein, were also found in the TCL, whereas their local transcriptional activity was rather high. Finally, we demonstrated that fibrinogen interacts with transthyretin and α-synuclein in TCL lysates.
CONCLUSION:
Our data indicate that fibrinogen and other aggregation-prone proteins have potentially important roles in the pathogenesis of ICTS.
Introduction. Homocystinuria is an autosomal recessively inherited defect leading to hyperhomocysteinemia and associated with ocular manifestations, mainly myopia and ectopia lentis. Case outline. A ...26-year-old male with secondary glaucoma due to bilateral lens subluxation was admitted to the Department of vitreoretinal surgery. Horizontal nystagmus, bilateral lens subluxation, and bilateral amblyopia were first discovered at the age of three years. Preoperative laboratory workup revealed elevated levels of homocysteine. Bilateral pars plana lensectomy and vitrectomy followed by a sulcus fixation of the intraocular lens (ALCON MA60 Acrysof IOL) were performed. The patient was prescribed folic acid, methionine, and pyridoxine, and was urged to maintain a methionine-low diet. After a bilateral lensectomy and sulcus fixation of the intraocular lens and a methionine restriction therapy combined with vitamin B6, B9, and B12 supplementation, his condition improved greatly. Conclusion. In this report of a rare case we emphasize the importance of examining differential diagnoses of lens subluxation, since early intervention can prevent serious complications.
