The article presents an assessment of industrial companies in Poland versus companies from selected European countries. It begins with the literature survey in which the authors highlight the ...specificity and main factors shaping the competitiveness of industry. Both traditional and contemporary determinants of competitiveness are discussed, particularly those associated with spatial integration, effects of concentration on selected growth sectors with a high added value, use of creative skills, quality of institutions and social capital. The authors also analyse the competitiveness of Polish companies with use of some complex measures such as Global Competitiveness Index and the Competitive Industrial Performance Index. The article concludes with indicating the key factors and barriers of competitiveness of Polish industrial companies.
Carotenoids are very effectively delivered by albumin to adipocytes. The uptake of carotenoids to the cells occurs in the form of self-aggregates that localize in the vicinity of the adipocyte ...membrane, as shown by high spatial resolution Raman spectroscopy. The binding of carotenoids to albumin and the mechanism of their transport were elucidated with the help of chiroptical spectroscopies, in tandem with molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations. In particular, apart from the recognized high affinity pocket of albumin that binds a carotenoid monomer in domain I, we have identified a hydrophobic periphery area in domain IIIB that loosely bounds the self-aggregated carotenoid in aqueous media and enables its easy detachment in hydrophobic environments. This explains the effectiveness of albumins as nanocarriers of carotenoids to adipocytes

Abstract Background Myocardial fibrosis was shown to influence prognosis in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). It is typically assessed by late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) on cardiac magnetic ...resonance. Native T1-mapping has been proposed, as a contrast-free method of fibrosis assessment. The aim of the study was to define a cut-off value for native T1 relaxation time that best reflects LGE quantification of myocardial fibrosis. Methods In 25 patients with HCM and 20 controls we performed T1-mapping pre-contrast using ShMOLLI technique. This was followed by LGE assessment in the studied group 10 minutes after gadolinium contrast injection. Relative myocardial fibrosis size was calculated for varying T1 time thresholds (940–1100 ms) and compared with 6 standard deviations (6SD) method for LGE. Results Median fibrosis size calculated with T1-mapping was insignificantly different from LGE only for native T1 time threshold of 1060 ms (p = 0.62). Using this threshold, Bland–Altman plots demonstrated very good agreement between fibrosis sizes from the two methods (slightly better only for 1080 ms threshold). For threshold of 1060 ms we also observed good correlation (rho = 0.73) with LGE 6SD method (insignificantly better for lower thresholds, best for threshold of 980 ms-rho = 0.88). In control group with no diagnosis of HCM, fibrosis size < 1% was reached for thresholds of 1040 ms and higher. Conclusion Native T1-mapping can be used for non-contrast assessment of myocardial fibrosis in HCM. The 1060 ms threshold of the native T1 relaxation time is characterized by the best balance between agreement and correlation with fibrosis assessed by LGE 6SD method.

Among all biopsies in the Trifecta-Kidney Study ( ClinicalTrials.gov NCT04239703), elevated plasma donor-derived cell-free DNA (dd-cfDNA) correlated most strongly with molecular antibody-mediated ...rejection (AMR) but was also elevated in other states: T cell-mediated rejection (TCMR), acute kidney injury (AKI), and some apparently normal biopsies. The present study aimed to define the molecular correlates of plasma dd-cfDNA within specific states.
Dd-cfDNA was measured by the Prospera test. Molecular rejection and injury states were defined using the Molecular Microscope system. We studied the correlation between dd-cfDNA and the expression of genes, transcript sets, and classifier scores within specific disease states, and compared AMR, TCMR, and AKI to biopsies classified as normal and no injury (NRNI).
In all 604 biopsies, dd-cfDNA was elevated in AMR, TCMR, and AKI. Within AMR biopsies, dd-cfDNA correlated with AMR activity and stage. Within AKI, the correlations reflected acute parenchymal injury, including cell cycling. Within biopsies classified as MMDx Normal and archetypal No injury (NRNI), dd-cfDNA still correlated significantly with rejection- and injury-related genes. TCMR activity (eg, the TCMR Prob classifier) correlated with dd-cfDNA, but within TCMR biopsies, top gene correlations were complex and not the top TCMR-selective genes.
In kidney transplants, elevated plasma dd-cfDNA is associated with 3 distinct molecular states in the donor tissue: AMR, recent parenchymal injury (including cell cycling), and TCMR, potentially complicated by parenchymal disruption. Moreover, subtle rejection- and injury-related changes in the donor tissue can contribute to dd-cfDNA elevations in transplants considered to have no rejection or injury.
In the article were presented: in the theoretical part: word-formation in contemporary German, compound words as a phenomenon characteristic of the German language, the theory of translation, theory ...of German for specific purposes as well as the theory of the general language: in the practical-empirical part: the methodology used in creating the corpus and the method of its description. The analysis of the presented corpus allowed to state that the aforementioned formulated research hypotheses proved to be correct and the aim of the research has been accomplished. Compound words in the contemporary technical German language are a remarkable phenomenon due to the frequency with which they occur and the communicative function they play in the scientific and technical texts. The process of translation of compound words is very complex and is subject to a number of rigid rules.
