A anemia é um estado em que a concentração de hemoglobina do sangue é anormalmente baixa em consequência da carência de um ou mais nutrientes essenciais, sendo mais comum a deficiência de ferro ...principalmente em mulheres e crianças nos países em desenvolvimento. No Brasil, 40 a 50% das crianças menores de cinco anos são portadoras de anemia, com tendência de aumento evidenciado em estudos. Por prejudicar o desenvolvimento mental, psicomotor e resistência às infecções, a anemia é considerada um sério problema de Saúde Pública no Brasil e necessita ser combatida. Objetiva-se então, analisar perfil epidemiológico e os custos em saúde pela anemia no Brasil entre 2015 e 2020.
Estudo observacional, descritivo e retrospectivo, com coleta de dados secundária no Sistema de Morbidade Hospitalar do SUS (DATASUS-TABNET). Analisou-se todos as internações em decorrência de anemia no Brasil entre 2015 e 2020. As variáveis analisadas foram: faixa etária, sexo, raça número total de hospitalização, tempo de internação, valor total gasto, valor médio por internação e taxa de mortalidade.
A análise incluiu um total de 484.414 pacientes internados. Houve um predomínio do sexo feminino com 54,89 % (n = 265.906) sobre o masculino com 45,11% (n = 218.508). Em relação a faixa etária, as mais acometidas foram aqueles com mais de 70 anos com 13,97% (n = 67.675) e entre 40 e 59 anos com 22,51% (n = 109.050). Enquanto a menos acometida foi a população com menos de 1 ano com 2,81 (n = 13.600). As raças predominantes foram a branca com 33,29% (n = 161.308) e a parda com 33,96% (n = 164.554). Essa população ficou um tempo médio de 5,6 dias hospitalizados, independentemente se enfermaria ou UTI, totalizando uma média de 776, 00 reais por internação. Dessa forma, apenas em custos diretos, ocasionaram um gasto de 326.480.128 milhões de reais para o Brasil, nos hospitais públicos. De todos os pacientes internados, 4,96% foram a óbito (44.043 casos), apresentando uma taxa de mortalidade de 4,59%.
Dessa forma, observa-se uma elevada prevalência de internações por anemia no Brasil e que o principal grupo acometido por essa desordem são mulheres pardas com mais de 40 anos. Porém, mesmo na população pediátrica, a menos acometida, a prevalência é elevada. Ademais, a anemia resulta em um gasto direto ao esta brasileiro através dos tratamentos, exames e internações, e também indiretos, relacionados ao maior risco na gestação, redução da produtividade, dias perdidos nas internações, e em longo prazo, com suas consequências no desenvolvimento mental.
Os custos diretos pela anemia causam grandes déficits financeiros ao estado brasileiro. Ademais, também apresentam gastos indiretos dessa doença. Assim, evidencia-se a extrema importância no diagnóstico e tratamento precoce, promovendo um melhor cuidado em saúde pública, para que seja possível diminuir o número e gastos de internações; bem como reduzir o número total de complicações e óbitos por essa causa.

Water pollution has generated the need to develop technologies to remove industrial pollutants. Adsorption has been recognized as one of the most effective techniques for effluent remediation. In ...this study, parts (stem and leaves) of a problematic aquatic weed, the water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes), were separated to produce a bioadsorbent. The objective was to evaluate the adsorption of a cationic dye, methylene blue (MB), in an aqueous solution of the biomass from different parts of the water hyacinth (Eichhornia crassipes) plants. The materials were characterized through techniques of infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffractometry, and thermogravimetric analysis, before and after the material adsorption. Water hyacinth biomasses presented adsorption capacity above 89%, and the kinetics was faster for stem biomass. The kinetic study found that the adsorption process is better described by the pseudo-second-order model, and the adjustments of the isotherm experimental data indicated that both materials are favorable for adsorption. Therefore, water hyacinth bioadsorbent represents a renewable resource with potential for effluent treatment.

One of the main challenges of tissue engineering in dentistry is to replace bone and dental tissues with strategies or techniques that simulate physiological tissue repair conditions. This systematic ...review of in vitro studies aimed to evaluate the influence of the addition of nanohydroxyapatite (NHap) to scaffolds on cell proliferation and osteogenic and odontogenic differentiation of human mesenchymal stem cells. In vitro studies on human stem cells that proliferated and differentiated into odontogenic and osteogenic cells in scaffolds containing NHap were included in this study. Searches in PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, OpenGrey, ProQuest, and Cochrane Library electronic databases were performed. The total of 333 articles was found across all databases. After reading and analyzing titles and abstracts, 8 articles were selected for full reading and extraction of qualitative data. Results showed that despite the large variability in scaffold composition, NHap-containing scaffolds promoted high rates of cell proliferation, increased alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity during short culture periods, and induced differentiation, as evidenced by the high expression of genes involved in osteogenesis and odontogenesis. However, further studies with greater standardization regarding NHap concentration, type of scaffolds, and evaluation period are needed to observe possible interference of these criteria in the action of NHap on the proliferation and differentiation of human stem cells.

This study analyzed the adsorption properties of the blue methylene model dye in the aqueous solution of biochar and activated biochar developed from pequi (
) endocarp. The biochar was characterized, before and after adsorption, by infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffractometry (XRD), and thermogravimetric analysis (TG). The surface load of the materials was performed by the point of zero charge (pH
) method. The study also included analyses of contact time parameters and adsorbed concentration in the adsorption process. Morphological analysis showed that a more significant and profound number of fissures and pores appeared in the activated biochar compared to the biochar. Residual mass analysis evidenced that biochar lost about 15% more mass than the activated biochar, indicating that activation occurred satisfactorily. The adsorption process was well adjusted by pseudo-second-order kinetics and Langmuir's isothermal model. The activated biochar achieved an excellent adsorption capacity of 476.19 mg.g
, thus demonstrating to be a sound system for removing dyes from an aqueous medium.

Devido à frequência de ocorrência e gravidade, os acidentes de trânsito são caracterizados como epidemias para as sociedades atuais e entram na agenda da saúde pública como morbimortalidades por ...causas externas, acarretando uma série de prejuízos individuais e sociais, como também, elevados custos ao sistema de saúde e ocorrências de sequelas temporárias ou permanentes, até invalidez e óbito. Dada a relevância do tema, este trabalho tem como objetivo descrever o perfil dos pacientes vítimas de acidente de trânsito atendidos no serviço de urgência e emergência do Hospital Monsenhor Walfredo Gurgel, um hospital de referência na cidade de Natal, Brasil. Trata-se de um estudo transversal, incluindo 10.377 pacientes vítimas de acidente de trânsito, atendidos no período de 1 de janeiro a 31 de dezembro de 2014. Os resultados indicam que a maioria das vítimas era do sexo masculino (76,7%); as motocicletas são o tipo de veículo mais envolvido em acidentes (74,2%) e a faixa etária com maior incidência foi a de 21 a 30 anos (33,93%). Os principais diagnósticos foram: escoriação e corte (25,5%); contusão, entorse e luxação (23%); fraturas (21,1%); trauma crânio-encefálico (13,9%) e politraumatismo (8,8%). Os resultados estão de acordo com outros estudos da literatura nacional. Como conclusão geral, há a necessidade de aplicação urgente de ações preventivas e de controle voltadas, principalmente, aos jovens do sexo masculino condutores de motocicletas.

The synthesis of zeolites using waste as a source of Si and Al is well known, and light coal ash has been studied to minimize the problems of waste management and mitigate environmental effects. The ...residue used in this work was supplied by Coal Workers Assistance Society (SATC) Criciúma–SC/Brazil, and had 24.09% Al2O3 and 54.25% SiO2 in its chemical composition. Synthesis studies using this residue with the objective of obtaining LTA zeolites were carried out by hydrothermal means, alkaline fusion, and the combination of the two methods, varying parameters such as crystallization time, Na/T ratio, OH/ratio, ultrasound exposure, gel agitation temperature, and the alkaline melting temperature of the residue. The results were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques and scanning electron microscopy (SEM-FEG). It was possible to obtain 70% crystalline zeolite type LTA for the first time at mild conditions with temperatures below 200 °C by alkaline fusion with smaller amounts of NaOH and short times (2 h). Thus, suitable parameters were determined for future scaling.
Transparent and flexible electrodes are widely used on a variety of substrates such as plastics and glass. Yet, to date, transparent electrodes on a textile substrate have not been explored. The ...exceptional electrical, mechanical and optical properties of monolayer graphene make it highly attractive as a transparent electrode for applications in wearable electronics. Here, we report the transfer of monolayer graphene, grown by chemical vapor deposition on copper foil, to fibers commonly used by the textile industry. The graphene-coated fibers have a sheet resistance as low as ~1 kΩ per square, an equivalent value to the one obtained by the same transfer process onto a Si substrate, with a reduction of only 2.3 per cent in optical transparency while keeping high stability under mechanical stress. With this approach, we successfully achieved the first example of a textile electrode, flexible and truly embedded in a yarn.

Physical exercise is a known preventive and therapeutic alternative for several cerebrovascular diseases. Therefore, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the motor performance and ...histomorphometry of the biceps brachii, soleus, and tibialis anterior muscles of rats submitted to a treadmill training program prior to the induction of cerebral ischemia via occlusion of the middle cerebral artery (OMCA). A total of 24 Wistar rats were distributed into four groups: Sham-Sed: sedentary control animals (n=6), who underwent sham surgery (in which OMCA did not occur); Sham+Ex: control animals exercised before the sham surgery (n=6); I-Sed: sedentary animals with cerebral ischemia (n=6); and I+Ex: animals exercised before the induction of ischemia (n=6). The physical exercise consisted of treadmill training for five weeks, 30 min/day (5 days/week), at a speed of 14 m/min. The results showed that the type-I fibers presented greater fiber area in the exercised ischemic group (I+Ex: 2347.96±202.77 µm2) compared to the other groups (Sham-Sed: 1676.46±132.21 µm2; Sham+Ex: 1647.63±191.09 µm2; I+Ex: 1566.93±185.09 µm2; P=0.0002). Our findings suggested that the angiogenesis process may have influenced muscle recovery and reduced muscle atrophy of type-I fibers in the animals that exercised before cerebral ischemia.
