Leukotriene B4 (LTB4) is a product of the 5-lipoxygenase pathway of arachidonic acid metabolism. LTB4 is a potent chemotactic factor for neutrophils and has been postulated to play an important role ...in a variety of pathological conditions including rheumatoid arthritis (RA), psoriasis, and inflammatory bowel disease. The role of LTB4 in such diseases has not yet been defined but in this paper we provide direct evidence that LTB4 plays a critical role in a murine model of RA. CP-105,696, (+)-1-(3S,4R)-3-(4-phenylbenzyl)- 4-hydroxychroman-7-ylcyclopentane carboxylic acid, is an LTB4 receptor antagonist that inhibits LTB4 binding to human neutrophil membranes with an IC50 of 3.7 nM and inhibits LTB4-induced chemotaxis of these cells with an IC50 of 5.2 nM. CP-105,696 inhibits LTB4-induced neutrophil influx in mouse skin when administered orally with an ED50 of 4.2 mg/kg. CP-105,696 had a dramatic effect on both the clinical symptoms and histological changes of murine collagen-induced arthritis when administered at doses of 0.3-10 mg/kg. Inhibition was not associated with suppression of the humoral immune response to collagen and was equally effective if drug treatment was commenced just prior to the onset of arthritis or throughout the experiment. These results suggest that LTB4 receptor antagonists may be effective therapeutic agents for the treatment of RA.

We report the first measurement of the absolute branching fraction of the inclusive decay Λc+→KS0X. The analysis is performed using ane+e- collision data sample corresponding to an integrated ...luminosity of 567 pb-1 taken at s = 4.6 GeV with the BESIII detector. Using eleven Cabibbo-favored Λ¯c- decay modes and the double-tag technique, this absolute branching fraction is measured to be B(Λc+→KS0X)=(9.9±0.6±0.4)%, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The relative deviation between the branching fractions for the inclusive decay and the observed exclusive decays is (18.7±8.3)%, which indicates that there may be some unobserved decay modes with a neutron or excited baryons in the final state.

To report a retrospective case series of 1127 Trabectome surgical procedures, including 738 Trabectome-only and 366 Trabectome-phacoemulsification surgeries.
Electroablation of meshwork via a ...temporal corneal incision. Outcomes included changes in intraocular pressure (IOP) and medication use, complications, and Kaplan-Meier success estimates.
For all cases, mean preoperative IOP of 23.8 +/- 7.7 mm Hg decreased by 39% to 16.5 +/- 4.0 mm Hg at 24 months (n = 50). Intraoperative reflux bleeding occurred in 77.6%. Medications decreased from 2.8 to 1.2 by 24 months. Sixty-five patients (5.8%) had IOP elevation > 10 mm Hg above baseline on day 1. Failure led to trabeculectomy in 5.9% (n = 67) and shunt installation in 1.6% (n = 18). Kaplan-Meier failure was defined across groups with at least 2 weeks follow-up as IOP > 21 mm Hg with or without medications and not reduced by 20% below baseline on 2 consecutive visits or repeat surgery. For Trabectome-only cases, mean preoperative IOP of 25.7 +/- 7.7 mm Hg was reduced by 40% to 16.6 +/- 4.0 mm Hg at 24 months (n = 46). No prolonged hypotony, choroidal effusion, choroidal hemorrhage, or infections occurred. Failure led to trabeculectomy in 8.1% (n = 60) and shunt installation in 1.9% (n = 14). Medications decreased from 2.93 to 1.2 by 24 months. For Trabectome-phacoemulsification cases, baseline IOP of 20.0 +/- 6.2 mm Hg decreased at 12 months to 15.9 +/- 3.3 mm Hg (18%) (n = 45) and medications decreased from 2.63 +/- 1.12 to 1.50 +/- 1.36. Sixteen (4.4%) of 365 had prior failed trabeculectomy, and 139 of 365 (38%) had prior laser trabeculoplasty.
Trabectome offers a minimally invasive method of improving IOP control in open-angle glaucomas.

We present the first study of the process J/ψ→γηπ0 using (223.7±1.4)×106 J/ψ events accumulated with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII facility. The branching fraction for J/ψ→γηπ0 is measured to be ...B(J/ψ→γηπ0)=(2.14±0.18(stat)±0.25(syst))×10−5. With a Bayesian approach, the upper limits of the branching fractions B(J/ψ→γa0(980),a0(980)→ηπ0) and B(J/ψ→γa2(1320),a2(1320)→ηπ0) are determined to be 2.5×10−6 and 6.6×10−6 at the 95% confidence level, respectively. All of these measurements are given for the first time.

The process e+e−→Ds*+Ds0*(2317)−+c.c. is observed for the first time with the data sample of 567 pb−1 collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider at a center-of-mass energy ...s=4.6 GeV. The statistical significance of the Ds0*(2317)± signal is 5.8σ and the mass is measured to be (2318.3±1.2±1.2) MeV/c2. The absolute branching fraction B(Ds0*(2317)±→π0Ds±) is measured as 1.00−0.14+0.00(stat)−0.14+0.00(syst) for the first time. The uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively.

Using 106 ×106 ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector, we measure multipole amplitudes for the decay ψ(3686)→γχc1,2→γγJ/ψ beyond the dominant electric-dipole amplitudes. The normalized ...magnetic-quadrupole (M2) amplitude for ψ(3686)→γχc1,2→γγJ/ψ and the normalized electric-octupole amplitudes for ψ(3686)→γχc2, χc2→γJ/ψ are determined. The M2 amplitudes for ψ(3686)→γχc1 and χc1,2→γJ/ψ are found to differ significantly from zero and are consistent with theoretical predictions. We also obtain the ratios of M2 contributions of ψ(3686) and J/ψ decays to χc1,2, b21/b22=1.35±0.72 and a21/a22=0.617±0.083, which agree well with theoretical expectations. By considering the multipole contributions of χc1,2, we measure the product branching fractions for the cascade decays ψ(3686)→γχc0,1,2→γγJ/ψ and search for the process ηc(2S)→γJ/ψ through ψ(3686)→γηc(2S). The product branching fraction for ψ(3686)→γχc0→γγJ/ψ is 3σ larger than published measurements, while those of ψ(3686)→γχc1,2→γγJ/ψ are consistent. No significant signal for the decay ψ(3686)→γηc(2S)→γγJ/ψ is observed, and the upper limit of the product branching fraction at the 90% confidence level is determined.

Large-scale fishing is mostly conducted using towed gears that reduce the biomass and diversity of benthic invertebrates. However, it is impossible to differentiate between the physical disturbance ...effect of towed gears from the effect of fish predator removal upon benthic invertebrate communities. Here we explore the impact of fish removal alone on the community structure of small motile coral reef invertebrates (epifauna) along a subsistence fishing intensity gradient in the Lau group, Fiji. We deployed settlement plates at three areas in each of six fishing grounds and examined the density and class richness of the motile epifaunal communities and the associated algal communities in relation to the structure of fish and benthic communities. Motile epifaunal density was unrelated to fishing intensity. However, at smaller inter-area scale (0.5–10 km) motile epifaunal density was negatively related to plate algal biomass, whereas at the larger inter-fishing-ground scale (4–180 km) motile epifaunal density was positively related to the rugosity (substrate complexity) of the surrounding benthos. The class richness and diversity (Margalef's
d) of motile epifaunal communities were negatively related to fishing intensity, but unrelated to grazing intensity, rugosity or algal biomass at either scale. Benthic community structure varied significantly with fishing intensity; hard-coral cover was lower and turf-algal cover was higher at high fishing pressure. The variation in benthic community structure was associated with variation in fish community structure, which in turn varied with fishing intensity. Motile epifaunal community structure upon plates was linked to the structure of the surrounding benthic community, but was not directly linked to the plate algal community. We suggest the decline in richness of the motile epifauna community along the fishing gradient is attributable to either to exploiter-mediated coexistence or the reduction in ‘habitat quality’ of the surrounding benthos. At the large spatial scale substrate complexity is the key determinant of motile epifaunal density, suggesting predation by fishes plays an important structuring role at this scale. Assuming that rugosity is inversely related to predation risk then this study represents the first evidence for spatial-dependence on the top-down (predation) vs. bottom-up (algal biomass) control of community structure. We argue fisheries exploitation, in the absence of a physical disturbance can negatively influence motile epifaunal community structure at large spatial scales.
