This article is a comprehensive empirical overview of environmental protection and conservation nonprofits’ discourse on social media. To what extent have these nonprofits framed climate change in ...their public discourse and how has it evolved over time? How do organizational characteristics and resources affect their social media behavior? To address our research questions, we use machine learning with texts—specifically topic modeling—to track the activity of 120 environmental nonprofits during a 14-year time span on X, formerly known as Twitter. Our analysis of more than 1.3 million tweets shows that climate change, although not closely aligned with the missions for more than half of the top tweeting organizations included in our sample, has consistently been a prevalent priority issue on their social media agendas for more than a decade. This heightened attention to climate change discourse by the environmental nonprofit sector denotes their uniform efforts to inspire government for climate action.

Different technologies are used, including Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), which can improve communication competences and life participation in patients with neurological ...conditions and communication deficits. The assessment of patients for the AAC need is a complex procedure encompassing not only speech and language assessment but also evaluation of cognitive, motor, visual, auditory, perceptive, and a variety of other general factors that influence the process of AAC method selection. Different standardized linguistic tools are used in the assessment process. Reassessments are an indisputable part of the AAC intervention process. Training of patients, caregivers, and other primary communication partners is imperative to ensure the successful use of communication technologies. The patients must take part in assessor controlled device trials to reveal the most appropriate AAC technology. Whenever needed, the AAC training ensures the permanent use of the technologies, providing ongoing support to the families once the skilled intervention is discontinued.

Related with this question, in this paper we show that νk(G)≥νk−i(G)+νk+i(G)2 for any bipartite graph G, k≥0 and i=0,1,…,k.

This paper explores age-specific migration flows between regions of Russia. Using age-disaggregated data of the Russian Census 2010, we cluster interregional migration flows based on prevailing ...age-groups of migrants, analyse diversity and similarity in the choice of age-specific migration destinations and describe general socio-economic characteristics of these flows. It is for the first time that the relationship between migration and migrants’ age and life-cycle events is analysed in the Russian context. Similar to migrants in other countries, migrants in Russia choose the place of residence depending on their age. Migration flows which differ by dominating age group of migrants quite often have opposite destinations, because motivations of migration also differ. Migration follows various stages of the life-cycle: people are born in one region, study in another region, go to work in a different region, and resettle to another place after retirement. Migration modeling turns to be complicated if the impact of age factor is ignored. Therefore, the age of migrants should be considered when analyzing, modeling and interpreting interregional migration in Russia.
The radiation-chemical synthesis of metal nanoparticles embedded into polymer matrices is an effective tool for preparation of the composite materials with very useful functional properties. This ...paper presents a review of an original approach to a single-step production of such materials via the radiation-induced reduction of the interpolyelectrolyte complex (IPEC) films containing metal ions under heterogeneous conditions, including the most recent results, and analysis of the prospects of this approach and its implications. First, the properties of IPECs as precursors for nanocomposites are briefly considered. Particular impact is given to the mechanistic aspects and principles of control of the nanoparticle formation and assembling at different stages. A common procedure of the radiation-chemical synthesis of metal polymer nanocomposites in the IPEC matrices implies irradiation of swollen films in an aqueous – organic environment. The kinetics of ion reduction and formation of nanoparticles was monitored by EPR and optical spectroscopy, whereas the obtained nanocomposites were characterized by TEM and diffraction methods. Using IPEC matrices allows us to reveal different stages of formation of metal nanostructures over a wide range of absorbed doses. Furthermore, it is possible to manipulate the processes of nucleation and growth of nanoparticles using both physical and chemical factors. Different kinds of radiation (e-beams, γ- and X-rays) were used in the experiments. It was shown that the penetration depth, dose rate and total absorbed dose had strong effect on the effect on nanoparticle size and their spatial distribution. The most striking feature were found for the processes induced by X-ray radiation. Detailed studies of this particular case revealed a very interesting effect described as radiation-chemical contrast, which is manifested by local intensification of the radiation-induced processes in the vicinity of existing nanoparticles. In addition to metal nanoparticles of different transition and noble metals, it was possible to obtain the bimetallic nanostructures within the IPEC matrix. Such nanocomposites may be potentially used as optical and magnetic materials, sensors, bactericide and fungicide products. The possibility of variation of nanoparticle size and specific properties of the IPEC films is crucially important for particular applications.

The natural electron accelerator in the clouds above Aragats high-altitude research station in Armenia operates continuously in 2017 providing more than 100 Thunderstorm Ground enhancements (TGEs). ...Most important discovery based on analysis of 2017 data is observation and detailed description of the long-lasting TGEs. We present TGE catalog for 2 broad classes according to presence or absence of the high-energy particles. In the catalog was summarized several key parameters of the TGEs and related meteorological and atmospheric discharge observations. The statistical analysis of the data collected in tables reveals the months when TGEs are more frequent, the daytime when TGEs mostly occurred, the mean distance to lightning flash that terminates TGE and many other interesting relations. Separately was discussed the sharp count rate decline and following removal of high-energy particles from the TGE flux after a lightning flash. ADEI multivariate visualization and statistical analysis platform make analytical work on sophisticated problems rather easy; one can try and test many hypotheses very fast and come to a definite conclusion allowing crosscheck and validation.

Based on the fact that traumatic brain injury is associated with mitochondrial dysfunction we aimed at localization of mitochondrial defect and attempted to correct it by thiamine.
Interventional ...controlled experimental animal study was used. Adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to lateral fluid percussion traumatic brain injury. Thiamine was administered 1 h prior to trauma; cortex was extracted for analysis 4 h and 3 d after trauma.
Increased expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and tumor necrosis factor receptor 1 (TNF-R1) by 4 h was accompanied by a decrease in mitochondrial respiration with glutamate but neither with pyruvate nor succinate. Assays of TCA cycle flux-limiting 2-oxoglutarate dehydrogenase complex (OGDHC) and functionally linked enzymes (glutamate dehydrogenase, glutamine synthetase, pyruvate dehydrogenase, malate dehydrogenase and malic enzyme) indicated that only OGDHC activity was decreased. Application of the OGDHC coenzyme precursor thiamine rescued the activity of OGDHC and restored mitochondrial respiration. These effects were not mediated by changes in the expression of the OGDHC sub-units (E1k and E3), suggesting post-translational mechanism of thiamine effects. By the third day after TBI, thiamine treatment also decreased expression of TNF-R1. Specific markers of unfolded protein response did not change in response to thiamine.
Our data point to OGDHC as a major site of damage in mitochondria upon traumatic brain injury, which is associated with neuroinflammation and can be corrected by thiamine. Further studies are required to evaluate the pathological impact of these findings in clinical settings.

Progeroid disorders are a heterogenous group of rare and complex hereditary syndromes presenting with pleiotropic phenotypes associated with normal aging. Due to the large variation in clinical ...presentation the diseases pose a diagnostic challenge for clinicians which consequently restricts medical research. To accommodate the challenge, we compiled a list of known progeroid syndromes and calculated the mean prevalence of their associated phenotypes, defining what we term the 'progeria phenome'. The data were used to train a support vector machine that is available at https://www.mitodb.com and able to classify progerias based on phenotypes. Furthermore, this allowed us to investigate the correlation of progeroid syndromes and syndromes with various pathogenesis using hierarchical clustering algorithms and disease networks. We detected that ataxia-telangiectasia like disorder 2, spastic paraplegia 49 and Meier-Gorlin syndrome display strong association to progeroid syndromes, thereby implying that the syndromes are previously unrecognized progerias. In conclusion, our study has provided tools to evaluate the likelihood of a syndrome or patient being progeroid. This is a considerable step forward in our understanding of what constitutes a premature aging disorder and how to diagnose them.
Modern configurational comparative methods (CCMs) of causal inference, such as Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) and Coincidence Analysis (CNA), have started to make inroads into medical and ...health research over the last decade. At the same time, these methods remain unable to process data on multi-morbidity, a situation in which at least two chronic conditions are simultaneously present. Such data require the capability to analyze complex effects. Against a background of fast-growing numbers of patients with multi-morbid diagnoses, we present a new member of the family of CCMs with which multiple conditions and their complex conjunctions can be analyzed: Combinational Regularity Analysis (CORA).
The technical heart of CORA consists of algorithms that have originally been developed in electrical engineering for the analysis of multi-output switching circuits. We have adapted these algorithms for purposes of configurational data analysis. To demonstrate CORA, we provide several example applications, both with simulated and empirical data, by means of the eponymous software package CORA. Also included in CORA is the possibility to mine configurational data and to visualize results via logic diagrams.
For simple single-condition analyses, CORA's solution is identical with that of QCA or CNA. However, analyses of multiple conditions with CORA differ in important respects from analyses with QCA or CNA. Most importantly, CORA is presently the only configurational method able to simultaneously explain individual conditions as well as complex conjunctions of conditions.
Through CORA, problems of multi-morbidity in particular, and configurational analyses of complex effects in general, come into the analytical reach of CCMs. Future research aims to further broaden and enhance CORA's capabilities for refining such analyses.
