Accidental falls and physical inactivity are important age-related issues for which smart technologies have demonstrated potential utility. This research aimed to explore the benefits of combining ...wearable activity monitors and telecare for older adults. A four-month interventional study was conducted between June 2021 and February 2022 in Slovenia. A purposive sample of 22 dyads of older adults aged 60 years and over and their relatives or family members used a wearable GoLiveClip device. The Pillar Integration Process was used to analyze the quantitative and qualitative data. Seven pillars emerged: (1) the use of smart technologies as a motivator for physical activity; (2) factors related to smart technology use affecting physical activity levels; (3) increased usefulness of smart technologies for users who completed the study; (4) activity monitoring as the most useful functionality of the solution; (5) the influence of technical problems on usefulness; (6) the influence of age and previous experience with smart technologies on usefulness; and (7) moderate psychological effects of smart technology use. Activity trackers were found to effectively promote physical activity in older adults, and safety features were shown to be an important part of the solution, regardless of health status or physical activity level.
Uvod: Nagel tehnološki razvoj v zdravstvu neposredno vpliva na zdravstveno nego in na poklic medicinske sestre in zdravstvenika. Manko znanja med medicinskimi sestrami o raznolikih novih ...tehnologijah v zdravstvu predstavlja izziv na področju zdravstvene nege in kakovostne oskrbe pacientov. Namen raziskave je bil ugotoviti, v kolikšni meri so vsebine s področja pametnih tehnologij vključene v visokošolsko izobraževanje bodočih diplomiranih medicinskih sester v Sloveniji.Metode: Zbiranje učnih načrtov prek spletnih strani osmih visokošolskih institucij in osebnega stika s fakultetami in nosilci posameznih predmetov je potekalo v januarju in februarju 2023. Analizirali smo dvajset učnih predmetov, ki so ustrezali vključitvenim kriterijem. Uporabili smo kvalitativni raziskovalni način z eksplorativno metodo, ki smo jo združevali z elementi vsebinske analize in vizualizacijske metode.Rezultati: V učnih načrtih predmetov s področja informatike in informacijsko komunikacijskih tehnologij (IKT) smo prepoznali šest vsebinskih sestavnih delov: pametne tehnologije, osnove IKT in informatike, IKT v zdravstvenem izobraževanju, IKT v zdravstvu, e-zdravje in druge vsebine s področja IKT. Pametne tehnologije so redko vključene v predmete na prvi in na drugi stopnji izobraževanja v zdravstveni negi.Diskusija in zaključek: V učnih programih slovenskih visokošolskih zavodov s področja zdravstvene nege močno primanjkuje vsebin s področja pametnih tehnologij. Glede na naglo širjenje digitalizacije v zdravstvu in pomembno vlogo medicinskih sester pri uvajanju in uporabi te vrste tehnologij v praksi bi bilo v prihodnje treba narediti korak naprej in v učne načrte visokošolskih institucij na področju zdravstvene nege ter v dodatna usposabljanja za medicinske sestre vključiti več poglobljenih vsebin s tega področja in jih tako obogatiti z naprednimi znanji in spretnostmi.

Age-friendly smartphone launchers are tools designed to enhance smartphone handling among older adults with cognitive and functional limitations. Although evidence exists about the positive effects ...of age-friendly smartphone launchers on older adults’ usability performance in general, little is known about how the design and interface complexity of these launchers affect their interface usability effectiveness and efficiency compared with standard Android smartphone interfaces. Thus, in this study, a randomized crossover experiment involving 50 older smartphone users, aged 60 years and above, was guided by the principles of summative usability testing to assess whether an age-friendly launcher performs better than a standard Android launcher performs and to investigate the relationship between the user interface complexity and usability performance of launchers. The results of usability tests in which each participant solved 10 tasks on both launchers indicate that the two tested launchers had comparable effectiveness (i.e. completeness with which participants achieved the test tasks’ goals), whereas the age-friendly launcher marginally outperformed its standard Android counterpart in terms of efficiency (i.e. the amount of time used by participants to solve the test tasks). The results also demonstrate that lower user interface complexity is associated with higher effectiveness and efficiency, suggesting that age-friendly smartphone launchers might lead to higher adoption rates of smartphones among older adults if interface designers could reduce their cognitive complexity by limiting the number of steps and alternative paths for task completion.
