Background and Aim

Methods
This cross‐sectional study was performed on 200 patients referred to Sina Hospital, Tehran, Iran, who were confirmed cases of Covid‐19 by computerized tomography‐scan analysis between 2 March 2020 to 5 April 2020. After verification of lung involvement, blood sampling was done to separate the sera for C‐reactive protein (CRP), magnesium (Mg), lymphocyte percentage, and vitamin D analysis in healthy and unhealthy people. Blood samples from healthy and sick people were applied to the multilayer perceptron network for 70% of the data for training and 30% for testing.
Result
By examining the features, it was found that in patients with Covid‐19, there was a significant relationship between increased CRP and decreased lymphocyte levels, and increased Mg (p < 0.01). In these patients, the amount of CRP and Mg in women and the number of lymphocytes and vitamin D in men were significantly higher (p < 0.01).
Conclusion
The important advantage of using a multilayer perceptron neural network is to speed up the diagnosis and treatment.

Background: Retroperitoneal schwannoma is a rare tumor rising from Schwann cells in peripheral nerve sheaths. Retroperitoneal schwannoma is really infrequent and has nonspecific symptoms and ...imperfect radiologic features, and is often identified histologically after surgery.
Case Report: We report the case of a 73-year-old man presented with flank mass. Imaging shows a hypoechoic macro lobulated solid cystic mass in retroperitoneum. Intraoperatively, after complete resection of retroperitoneal mass, a suspected lesion in upper pole of right kidney was observed. Histopathology evaluation after surgery shows coexistence of a large retroperitoneal schwannoma and papillary renal cell carcinoma, type 1.
Conclusion: Schwannoma should be considered in the differential diagnosis of retroperitoneal spindle cell tumor. Schwannoma coexisted with renal cell carcinoma in a patient is an unusual event. Thus, it can show the importance of appropriate evaluation before any surgery.
Peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumor (pPNET) is a highly aggressive small round cell tumor belonging to PNET/Ewing sarcoma family. Ovarian tumors composed of primitive neuroectodermal elements ...are extremely rare. Herein we reported two cases of peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumors of ovary in two patients with different clinical presentations. Definite diagnoses were made based on the histomorphology and immunohistochemistry results. With respect to different clinical behaviors, treatment modalities and prognosis of peripheral primitive neuroectodermal tumors compared to other known ovarian neoplasms, it is essential to consider this entity as a differential diagnosis in ovarian tumors especially in young patients.

Here, we report a 52-year-old man with progressive and bilateral frontal headache. The radio/pathologic diagnosis revealed fibrous dysplasia of paranasal sinuses with anterior skull-base extension and pneumocephalus. The patient underwent a craniotomy, and 2 weeks after the procedure, the symptoms were alleviated without any complications.
in case of fibrous dysplasia, patients with new onset and/or mild symptoms may have extensive lesions in multiple craniofacial bones.

Case Report: This report describes a 37-year-old woman who presented with incidental right retroperitoneal mass in prenatal checkup. The patient underwent excisional surgery. Histological examinations and the immunohistochemical study revealed angiomyolipoma. Based on the diagnosis, the patient received no more treatment. After 3 years of close followup examinations, no recurrence was observed.
Conclusion: This diagnosis is often confused with many other entities in retroperitoneum. Thus, imaging and histologic correlation are required. Proper diagnosis is essential for further patient management and avoids unnecessary treatment.
We aimed at determining the pattern of liver disease in the Iranian children referred to the Medical Center of Children affiliated with the Tehran University of Medical Sciences.
In a cross-sectional ...study conducted over 2 years, 425 liver needle biopsies were sent to the pathology laboratory of our center. Slides were prepared from paraffin-embedded blocks, stained by routine H & E and special stains and were then reviewed. The frequency of each disorder, separately and in combination with the age group or gender of the patients was calculated and compared with other similar studies.
The male to female ratio was 1.42:1. The age range was between 1 month and 18 years old and 41.4% were less than 2 years old. The most common histological diagnosis was iron overload due to major thalassemia (17.5%) followed by biliary atresia (9.7%), no significant pathologic change (8.7%), neonatal hepatitis (8.7%), chronic hepatitis (8.5%), cirrhosis (6.5%), metabolic disease (5.5%) and progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis (5%). RESULTS of the hemosiderosis grading in patients with thalassemia revealed no or minimal, mild, medium, or marked increase in 10%, 27.1%, 10%, 21.4% and 31.5% of the cases, respectively and the degree of iron deposition rose in parallel with age and also the stage of fibrosis (p< 0.05).
A liver biopsy is a useful and practical tool for the appropriate diagnosis of pediatric liver diseases. Also, we found that in non thalassemic children, biliary atresia, chronic hepatitis and neonatal hepatitis, in the stated order, are the most prevalent histologic diagnoses in Iranian pediatrics.

Objective: To study the clinical presentation, histology and colonoscopic features of lower gastrointestinal polyps in Iranian children. Material and Methods: Medical reports of children with ...colorectal polyps were retrospectively reviewed from 1996 to 2005 at the Children’s Medical Center Hospital, Iran. A total of 563 cases were studied. Data related to age, sex, family history, signs and symptoms, the size, location, polyp types and associated lesions were collected and analyzed. Results: The mean age of children was 5.66 ± 2.88 years (range 2 months to 17 years), with a male-to-female ratio of 1.61:1.0. The highest incidence was between ages 2 and 10 years (85.1%). Rectal bleeding was the presenting symptom in 78.5% cases. The polyps were solitary in 94% of cases. A majority of polyps (86.3%) were juvenile and 86.7% located in the rectosigmoid area. Three percent of cases had a positive family history. One case of Turcot syndrome was also identified. Conclusion: Juvenile polyps remain the most common polyps in Iranian children. Although the presence of a solitary polyp in the rectosigmoid colon is more prevalent, in a significant number of cases they are multiple and located in proximal parts. Polyps must be removed even when asymptomatic because of their probable neoplastic potential.
To measure the level of inter/intra-observer reproducibility among pathologists as far as Gleason scoring of adenocarcinoma of the prostate is concerned.
A total of 101 prostate biopsy slides, ...diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the prostate by five pathologists from different education centers, were exposed to Gleason scoring. Two months later, the slides were re-examined by three of the same pathologists. Thereafter, the kappa was calculated for the data provided in the first and second reports of each pathologist and compared between pathologists.
Inter-observer reproducibility was inappropriate, but intra-observer diagnostic reproducibility was almost perfect with a corresponding percentage of agreement of 85.2%.
The inter-observer reproducibility was poor.
